I read a review and it mentioned there will be microtransactions in CO. I have looked through a few pages and have seen no posts on this so it may be old news but honestly I am just now looking at CO. I just want to know if they are, or aren't. Don't need to know what they plan to put in these or anything else. |

There will be micro-transactions but by the looks of it and according to statement it will be mostly cosmetic (i.e. buy new costume parts) and account based (buy more character slots, perhaps namechange as well etc.).. Also said is that any item you can MC that has an ingame effect (yet to be defined what this really is - cosmetic or More?) will be possible to earn ingame too.. IIRC. |

Sometime before launch next week a preview of the MT shop will be up. They did post a few preview items a few weeks ago and it was like action figures (do nothing vanity pets) and costum parts plus they spoke about it in a Massively interview that its cosmetic and account related transactions like MOST other games have including WoW. Items with stats aren't really that big a deal and the best ones so far that I've found were all crafting related. Its not like WoW or EQ where everyone is trying to get Uber Glowy Sword +100 to be the best. BUT they did say if they put any game changing items up there they would make it available in game (probably for a high cost of ingame currency). Basically the game so far is not a giant item hunt. The best items are craftable only atleast from what I've seen and the only way to truely uberize your character is through stat customization, power customization, and choices in powers. |

Thank you for the reply. This by no means is a deal breaker for me I was just wondering :) |

scool you should of grabbed and open beta key last weekend and tried it otu :) its pretty obvious the game is not built around the MT shop like certain anti anything named MT / cash shop postesr would have you believe. |

I would have but I wasn't paying much attention to CO till today really. Finances have changed and I can once again join the MMO world lol. |

Well apparently costumes did have a glow effect before the open beta, then Cryptic took it out most likely to sell seperately. Its the Horse Armor (oblivion reference) effect where a company purposefully takes something out of the game in order to charge you more for it. What really stinks is that if you want your character to look the best, you will have to pay more for that rather than earn it like everyone else. Are we freer in America today? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWOW1OKzdNA |

I guess by now you your answer, its a yes. It may not be a deal breaker for you or me, but MAN. Some people are crying bloddy murder. Its another way for Cryptic to make cash. Will it be used for stuff to make the game better? We will have to wait and see. Personally, I think there just bein greedy bastards, but more power to them. I plan to play the game, but not buy fluff with real cash. Not buy much of anything really with real cash. Im a poor gamer. Reason I play MMOs is because of the price of a monthly subscription is the best deal for the money as far as entertainment goes.

It is pretty darn easy...if you don't want to spend more than monthly sub...you don't have to. And I find it humerous that everyone cries about MC's then goes back to their WoW playing...yet WoW has had them for YEARS! You want a server transfer?....................MC! You want a rename?................................MC! You want new hair?...................................MC! You can do over 1,000,000,000 (no, serious..that is an understatement) more things in game in CO for FREE that you can't do in WoW (Tailor and Power House). You may also notice that WoW MC's are hella expensive. So this is what I read when a player complains about CO mc's: "God I hate MC's! This is a deal breaker for me! I won't play CO! Now excuse me while I go pay to have my hair colour changed in Wow..." |

Originally posted by Rabenwolf Of course, if it can be gotten in both ways, people will assume you just bought it. So much for status items. |

Servers Transfers and toon renames are account based admin functions that should be limited, hence the high cost, and don't classify a microtransaction. And your clearing don't know this.. in WoW you can change your hair color with in-game money. It sex changes you can do... and soon race and faction changes as well. FYI.. before you say anything, I preorderef CO and like the game, Even bought 6 month sub... |

read ogrebear.com/ you're a fool if you think they NEED MTs. |

Originally posted by Tamanous So you would be ok w/ say 33% of costume pieces available only through RMT? With being able to buy an item that through gameplay might take 40 hours to get, for $10? Why? you think you're getting value? You think you're getting something extra? If that's the case, you're brainwashed (or a sycophant). |

The thing is - in business, there is no such thing as 'enough' money. Sure there is. Would you buy a Yokohama tire for your car if it cost $400 when you could buy a similar one from Michelin for $100? No. Therefore Yokohama is attempting to make too much money, and failing. Similarly, Atari/Cryptic are vastly overestimating how good their game is. They're trying for the trifecta; average game + expensive + slow grind & little content. They think that if they can get people to spend enough money & time w/ the game, in the hopes it will get better, that they wont want to leave because subconsciously they wont be able to admit they wasted so much time/money. |

You're part of the problem. 1st off, WoW players had been asking for all these things for long while, Blizzard give it to them... but made so you have to paid to do them. Blizzard never would have put this stuff in without the high demand for them... and I really don't think they want to you doing them, hence the high cost.
If it was a PvP game I would have stayed away... but it is a PvE game mostly, with pvp as a afterthought. |

I read somewhere that the cost of making Champions was half of other MMOs... So how come you have to pay Full box price + Full monthly subscription + have microtransactions? Its a big scam imo, but I guess Atari/cryptic really needs the money now when they are being sued :) If WoW = The Beatles |
|
|
MT in a MMO subscription only makes sense if you need account adjustments such as switch a character to another sever or something...Having MT in a game to buy game content you allready paid for (box and subscription) The economy already drains so much from people it dose'nt need all that extra money being sucked from you now. |

I don't see what everyone's freaking out about, microtransactions aren't anything new. They're not bad either. WoW has them, and so do most other games. Name Change, Server Transfer, etc. With WoW you can buy their TCG and spend money to get cosmetic items like mounts or capes or things. Ever played Rock Band and downloaded a new song to play? Ever downloaded a song from itunes? Same thing there too. They're not bad either. Sure you're paying your 50 bucks to buy the game and then 15 bucks a month afterwards, but think about what you compare it to. If you buy another video game, you pay 50 bucks and get what, like 10 hours of play out of it? With an MMO you get hundreds. If you go see a movie it costs roughly around 15 bucks these days (if you get a drink or popcorn too), and that gives you conservatively 3 hours of entertainment. So for the cost of 1 game once, and 1 movie a month, you're getting much more than your money's worth. Now I know some people say that the devs are just trying to make more money. Well yes technically they are, that's kinda their job. But lets remember that it costs money just to make the game and get it out the door. Then you gotta continually pay for the servers, the dev team to watch balancing, the GMs to deal with player problems, the live team to create new content. If you buy a new costume part through the MT store, you're paying the salary of whoever created that item. It's a symbiotic relationship really. The more money we give them, the more they want to put in new stuff to keep us happy and bring in more players. The more players and happy people, the more money they get. Bring it on down now. |

Then could you explain to me what the problem is with microtransactions? I don't get why people freak out over them. If you don't want to pay money for an extra character slot, then don't. Why should other people be unable to do that? It's not like people are going to have some sort of advantage in the game over you, that you can't get yourself somehow. Sure they may look cooler, but it's not like it's going to break the bank if you do buy something you really want either. Bring it on down now. |
