The name is pretty much fail, imo. I mean if you lack the imagination to come up with a better name than the very lame 38 studios then I don't have much faith in whatever they are makeing.

Salvatore is? wrote quite a few original book series, the majority of which are part of the forgotten realms universe. (baldur's gate, icewind dale, neverwinter nights?) Curt Schilling, he is some sports guy, and i dont do sports.
Salvatore did not make or was the inspiration of either Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale however he was the creator of the only good natured creature of a whole race of evil creatures and they were evil by lore but Salvatore threw all that out the window to make a buck on his fabulous books. By the way... that boom head shot guy, is that you? Keep it up, bro.

I feal an epic disaster coming. This can be nothing but vaporware, not one of these guys ahs any SW experience at all. You don't just get a bunch of money and go out and make an MMO. You need people who know how to develope SW or you aren't going to produce anything worth playing. |

/shrug 38 is Schilling's baseball jersey number. So it makes sense. Makes more sense than Cryptic, or Blizzard, or Bioware... but, whatever. I don't really care, just pointing out that it's not just some random thing they came up with. Also since when does a company having a bad name = bad product? Bioware did not make Knights of the old Republic 2. |

Think of it like this: 1. You are making a gaming studio. 2. You think long and hard of a good name for your gaming studio. 3. You name your new gaming studio 38 and add studios at the end because... well it's a studio, duh. Do you see my point? |

What was the name of the studio that tried to make a Star Trek MMO and failed miserably? Perp something or other? |

Ummm, Schillings number was 38. Its his studio. *shrug* i really dont think a companys name has ANYTHING to do with a product. Its like a guy named SteveiPWNDyourNooBaRse, playing in the PvP games and dominating. His dumb name means nothing when he is toping leader boards and wooping your booty.

Might be interesting, though I have my doubts on Schilling's capability as a developer. McFarlane couldn't pull a decent storyline out of his ... but he would be decent for art director. Never read any of Salvatore's books so I can't say... |

I can't comment on whether they will make a great game or not, but I can say they do have some MMO veterans on their staff who have vast experience in making MMOs. I don't think Curt claims to be or plans to be a developer of any of the games. I think he is more so being a creative consultant from a gamers perspective since he has played quite a few MMOs. I imagine Todd is a part if not lead art director and Salvatore is probably handling lore and story lines.
They certainly have some rich talent available, but even having great talent is no guarantee of a successful game. I think Brad McQuaid will be first to admit having a great sea of talent is useless unless you have chemistry. |
