I approached this mmop with nothin but high expectationss. The graphics seemed solid, A freer way to attack. Millions of possibilities. I had gotten a free trial from a friend and was gonna log in. Then Disaster struck

It took 7 HOURS to update the game....Wow is all i have to say. That was rediculous. I never thought id wait that long for a videogame. That was WAYY to long. But im a graphichead so i wanted to see what the hype was about AoC.

Character creation was a little less than what i expected. I thought I would be able to fix my character to what i wanted, A shorter strong warrior, short hair, dark skinned. Blah Blah Blah. But You Cant really customize fully. Which kinda turned me off from the game a little. But a games a game, so I accepted it and logged on.

Cutscene was nice to look at. Shipwrecked on the island, Woman being provocatively placed on a wall to be made a woman into by a pirate...The usual. Your first mission is to fight. This is where things got...weird.

The  fighting is based on directional keys. Which is creative. Different directions for different sections of the body. But it got a little dry after a while. Seeing the same movements over and over, With the occasional stabbing in the neck or beheading. Thats all there really was to it...not very exciting.

Tortuga was cool. A little hard to navigate due to the small compassmap in the top corner of the screen.

FINDING QUESTS SUCKED.

NIGHT TIME QUESTS SUCKED.

All and all. This game was just a pretty face... it wasnt very well played.

i give this game a 2 / 5 Overall...

You barley dipped into the game, so you have no reason to make a rating.

So, your internet sucks.. and you played basically only the single player portion of the game and decided you deserved to rate the game? Come on at least be reasonable if you're going to make any sort of 'review'.

Currently playing - Age of Conan
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Darkfall, Tons more.

lol and Tortage is usually referred to as the most polished or best part of the game. Its downhill from there.

I think you need to be a little "reasonable" yourself.

Patching a fresh install of AoC on 1 of my connections (100mbit fibre) takes between 2.5-5 hours. I guess you could say that connection sucks because Funcoms rather fluctuating updateserver is only able to use 1-8% of my connections capacity?

OP said he tried AoC - You called it a review.

Is it reasonable that the OP forms an opinion after playing a 1-week trial? I think it is reasonable! (If not then why have a trial?)
Maybe the OP only played Tortage. I foubt many new (casual) players get past tortage in less than 20+ hours playing time.
To me that would amount to about a trial... And I think that would be a reasonable assumtion about a person, with a life besides playing computer games.

In the end: The OP tried the trial. Rated the game 2 / 5 and will probably not see any more of AoC.

I think quite a few trial-players walk away with the same experience as the OP. Yes there is a lot more than Tortage to AoC. But if the trial does not whet the appetite of the trialplayers then that is not a problem with the trialplayers. It is a problem with the trial and, reasonable or not, can be a problem for AoC overall.

The EE Hex: A powerful spell that prevents the target from telling the truth, eventually turning him into a caricature.

As soon as you're born you start dying.

Just got to chime in on some of the points here.

Patch time sucked:  I did a digital download of the game and agree it took way longer than it should have.  But going in I knew what to expect after doing digital downloads of at least 4 other MMO's previously.  Even if the OP wasn't doing the digital download and was just patching you have to think that the game's been out for more than 12 months so each monthly patch + all the minor updates and the major revisions needed to be downloaded.

Combat got repetitive:  agreed but I tend to think it does in most games regardless of what genre they are.

Finding Quests sucked:  I always found it rather easy as the minimap or full map would display large exclamation points wherever a quest giver was located.  I pretty much navigated around by the map instead of visually trying to make my way around town.

Night time quests sucked:  I did dislike the single player instanced aspect of this part but understood the need to have it.

Usually it is someone playing a few minutes then comming here to write a huge post about how awesome the game is to try to get other players to play.  However, you never hear from them again so it seems that whatever comes after Tortage drives players away fast.

Doesn't really sound like the OP went very far into the game.  Hard finding quests in tortage??  Did you have your eyes open?  Try pressing M and opening up the full map instead of using the minimap or try zooming in, duh.  Also, isn't the game download like 32gig or something?   Yah you should definitely be able to download and patch this in an hour......  I personally found the night/destiny quests to be very fun and entertaining not to mention you can get some decent gear and a great story line to go along with it.  Sorry, but if you didn't atleast play through tortage you should keep your review to yourself as your not really reviewing much.

Currently Playing: NOTHING!

Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update.

Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG...

I hadn't played since retail release.

I started up again recently when they offered the come back to conan thing.

I only played for that time period as I had alot of RL things coming up so didn't resub yet.

I enjoyed myself a good bit.

Got past the first area and started on the next.

I really really did like it I need to find people to level/quest with. I'd like to see some of the instances/group required things.

I plan on resubbing in the next month or so when my RL slows down again.

Good graphics takes a lot of space. Also AoC have made a lot of updates.

The game do have both good and bad things as any games but you really havn't seen anything with just Tortage. The games biggest problem is that it is probably the smallest MMO out there and it really needs an expansion pack or 2 to work.

It is anyways impossible to judge a game by just play the tutorial as you did. Tortage is just that. Youll never see a nighttime quest again after you leave and you can ignore the few destiny quest there is after.

2 more starting areas is BTW also something the game could use.
