I'll give you the TL:DR Version.

OP decided to order his CE last week. Noticed it not available from retailers ( SOLD OUT ). Decided that it just wasn't available yet. Ordered Pre-Purchase DIGITAL from NCsoft.

NCSoft releases a bonus for the PHYSICAL CE edition of Aion. OP realizes that they did not get this version ( BECAUSE IT WAS SOLD OUT ) and has to come to the forum and QQ that Aion will have a horrible launch.

Horrible launch? The game launches on the 22nd of next month.

You aren't missing anything. The OP doesn't seem to understand what exactly launch means. Launch entails the logistical handling of bringing something to fruition once developement has been completed. I haven't had any problems with the NCsoft system and to be completely honest the people that have been complaining are....well, stupid. There, I said it and there isn't a better way to put it.

It's the same type of people that get confused by voting ballots. Oh and just in case anyone is wondering - yes, if you take offense to the above then you are probably stupid. There's nothing necessarily wrong with it, but just know I don't like your kind.

At any rate this thread doesn't make any sense and is just pure QQ for no reason whatsoever. If I could get QQ threads of this nature removed I would.

The retail box collectors edition was the ONLY way to get the collectors edition for over a month and nearly the only way to get it period. However some of us complained that most retailers were sold out of the Collector's edition so they put up the digital offer. However as I said the digital came way after the retail CE's were out there for pre-order.

Oh and btw there are box CE's still for sell on ebay some cheaper than I paid for mine.

This is just how game companies operate. Cruel, but true. Get over it or get the better CE.

I don't see what the big deal is, this is how life works.

there is always going to be some promotion you miss or some opportunity that passes you by.

Life doesn't work where you get all your choices right up front and you get to pick.  part of living is that you have to make choices based on what you know and hope that they will pan out.

And in the end, if you REALLY have to have that promotion then you can just buy it. Heck, you might even be able to return the other.

But keep in mind, there might be ANOTHER promotion that is made that is even better.

This is not the first time this will happen to you and it won't be the last.

 

If you try and return your digital download they can cancel it, but you have to make a completely new NSCoft main account to play say the new "Limited Collectors Edition" version.

And yes I agree, the wings are really good for nothing, but some of us like useless stuff like that, for instance the pet packs in GW and the magic and science packs in City Of Heroes/City Of Villians.

I am not crying in my beer over this.  I just do not think it is right.  Thanks for the replies.

 

I think you can just add the new code to the account. I would write and ask if you havne't already done so.

I did.  I was in touch with customer support via NSSoft and they could refund my money but if they cancelled from my NCSoft Main Account, the only one I have going with COH/GW/Lineage 2, etc. and I wanted to play the game again,  I would have to create a new NCSoft main account.
 

I am keeping what I have bought, more room in my closet with no box, but if the hard copy limited edition was available at the time I probably would have ordered that instead and just waited for it to come in the mail, or go to the retailers at midnight.  It was up on Amazon.com, but you could not order it, same with GameStop.  And it did not list any 2 day headstart codes and some of the other extras like for instance now the Guild War wings.  Now it is up for pre-purchase.  Lousy order of release, henceforth my complaint.

that just sounds fishy. I "accidentaly" have two Coh accounts. On my main account. So I dont' understand why one can't have two Aion accounts as well. I'll have to look into that.

Seriously?  It's a freaking emote in video game.  A different video game then the one it's being sold with, even. 

The only reason they are offering this emote is to get more exposure for Aion in one of their other games.  It's a good marketing strategy if you ask me.

It's funny that you seem to care just enough about it to start this ridiculous thread, but not enough to spend some more money to get the emote.

You're acting like you spent thousands of dollars on something only to find out that a different version would have given you something very important for free.

You do realize you're talking about a video game, right?

Just FYI, the Steelbook* edition is the standard edition (in a box, at a retailer). 

And they have both been advertised and on sale for months now.  The Limited Collectors Edition (also, in a box, at a retailer), if not completely sold out, is certainly hard to find and has been for a while now.

Just because you just found out about it does not mean they planned poorly.

 In other words "I didn't do any research and now I regret my decision. It's THEIR FAULT!" The details of the boxed collectors edition were the first things to go out. The digital version of the collectors rolled out later, and honestly, I hardly call the BS in-game crap a true "collectors edition" and wonder why they even bothered with them. The steelbook versions, from what I recall, are going to be all of the first run copies of the game, so if you want it that badly, just pre-order a standard one and get the digital collectors upgrade for it (seriously, I don't know why they have this). 

Also, "horrible launch"? The game is still a month away. What launch?

side note: as far as gamestop goes, they stopped taking orders on the collectors edition in store about three weeks ago.

Sorry, but I'm going to be playing too much Aion to care about my toon in Guild Wars and whether it gets wings or not :(

I think the title need to change as Aion have not launched yet.  This is so far only marketing method.

EDIT: I only order CE box because I wanted the poster, but I guess the figurine can be displayed somewhere too.  The rest are just extra bonuses to me.

Op is just an ignorant whiner, as far as i know, the boxed set was available way before the digital download. it was not available on amazon or ebgames because they are sold out. digital download collector's edition still gives u the same set of in-game items minus the GW wings EMOTE. how important is that? blame yourself for not being early. and this does not contribute to a horrible launch. that was only your wish. go cry to ur mommy.

My wish is for AIon to have a good launch. wether it will or not only time will tell. im not a fanboy, im not a wow hater. im just someone who has been waiting for something fresh( fresh by far doesnt mean totally new)  to come along to kill my time.

Seems to me that it is a normal marketing ploy to sell unsold boxes so they don't get stuck with them having paid fotr there manufacture. If a product isn't moving (in this case because so many opt for DL) then it is perfectly reasonable to offer an incentive to buy said boxes. To make this FAIR, on those who have already purchased other types of copy, they just put it in as a reward for existing customers with a side effect of maybe generating some Guild Wars action.

Good marketing move by NCSoft and I fail to see anything unethical or even morally wrong with this

The only thing that would surprise me with game companies is if they charged you to participate in beta's, kinda like COSTCO sucking people into shopping by charging them for a "membership". Funny thing is, I think people would pay.

Horrible launch? I don't remember seeing a few classes cut off a few weeks before release, I don't remember reading "DX 10 compatible" in their box, I don't remember we suddenly discovering there will be NC Coins to purchase the cool stuff with.

They listened when we told patching speeds were too low and they promissed an improved DL system, possibly P2P. We will be able to patch the game weeks before release (in fact for Open Beta you'll already get the 1.5 patch). They've been tweaking the servers for the last 6 closed betas, and there will also be the open beta with a much larger player base to tweak them. The game is solid, running in the East for almost an year.
