Well, if you're like me, you have no clue who these 3 people are or why you might care. This link will help. www.38studios.com/people/visionaries But you still might not care. Can they make games, or good MMORPG's? Who knows? Get back to us in 4 or 5 years and we'll see. Meanwhile, back to EVE. I think if they have proper advising they can make a stellar mmo. With their capital it should be as polished as possible before they release it, which will determine if it succeeds.

Originally posted by Valgar1 If it takes them 5 years, it had better be a different setting/theme from Blizzard's second MMO or they will be crushed. Schilling is a wargamer (like me), so that might have some bearing on the game's theme. An RvR game featuring small-unit infantry combat? Seems too niche but Schilling is a (relatively) well-known Squad Leader player. Salvatore implies fantasy, and MacFarlane implies horror or sports (he's a big baseball fan).
That mix of interests suggests...

Success never guarantees future success, as for how long 38 studios has been talking about stuff I don't think it's going to be anything that interesting. But we shall see. |

Well, the three of them (not so much Salvatore) have the cash to make the game THEY want to make, without bowing to investors' demands. I don't think they are going into the business just to make a big score. It could be a first with the creative people actually controlling the development. None of them has any experience making MMOs, however. WIth all the MMO projects out there, is there enough talent available to do a good job? |

Well Schilling is a game player... so he will want a game he would want to play.
The real question is... Is the type of game he would love to play.. the type of game you would love to play.
That is the only possible down side in my point of view.
Most games seem to be made by people who wanted a "job" or play a game but not the one they are making or made. Quite honestly if you can't create a game your own development team would want to play.. its an obvious issue.
So I believe it will be a good game for "game players" .. but it might not be for everyone.. /shrug
That's more than I can say in favor or most MMO's...
Being able to choose the skills you want to use, offers much less variety than pre-made class based systems. -Future Game Developer |

Originally posted by Antarious Indeed, because most of them are made for the investors. Oh, Salvatore is a D&D player, so he's also a gamer. Don't know about MacFarlane in that respect.
The more I think about it, the more I think that these are the guys who should have made Hellgate:London. |

Exactly what I thought when looking at the link provided about these "visionaries" and looking throughout their own website. I got nothing from it, I had a hard time making sense of their importance (at least in regards to their interests and their former careers). I'll care when they produce their MMO or at the very least when they lay out more specific features about their game on their own site. For now, its all just an afterthought in my mind and a vision in theirs, nothing else. EDIT: I think maybe they are using their own names to create some form of hype behind what they are pursuing? That was another initial impression I got. |

Originally posted by Antarious I kinda felt that as well about Schilling. He is a game player. All the people who play MMO's that say they wish they could make one, he has the capital to actually do that. Only problem with that is, will everyone like what he likes? probly not, but its a good start to finally get a game from people who played games. |

Just for clarification, it is TODD McFarlane, famous for the Spawn comic series. Seth McFarlane is the creater of Family Guy and American Dad. |

He was a star baseball player, and he plays tons of World of Warcraft. Lately it seems like that is all he does. |

Depends on how you see it as he is rarely in the studio. He even mentioned in an article that he's usually not there during baseball season. Hes more of an investor although he stated he makes sure his idea's get across. |

Exactly! I think every investor should be interested in their product. If not, then how would they ever know it's good. =) |
