According to a comment given to VG247 at GamesCom by FFXIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka, Square Enix is in discussions with Microsoft regarding bringing Final Fantasy XIV to the XBOX 360. While that is certainly great news, it's not all peachy.

Discussions are currently being held up due to logistical issues involving XBOX Live. According to Tanaka, even if the 360 version becomes a reality, it will not be part of the simultaneous PC and PS3 release of the game due sometime next year.

Hiromichi Tanaka on the situation:

“For FFXIV, because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that’s something we’re in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement. That’s one of the reasons it’s not going to be launched at that point.”

Xbox version delayed? Who gives a toss? 360 = Epic Fail. Personal knee-jerk opinion. Feel free to flame ;P But realise this: the only reason to play console-FF11 on 360 over PS3 was the failure of PS3 to be provided with the gorgeous PC version -- for some genious reason, PS3 was given the PS2 version with all the wonderfully eye-bleeding grafx thereof.

So, if you wanted pretty-but-not-on-PC then you played the crashtastic 360 version (zero-exp besieged anyone? lol). I for one am not giving the benefit of the doubt to the 360 for connexion stability in The Next FF.

Unless the devs made a PS2 version of FF14 that they are planning to release as the PS3 client ( o.O; ) there is no reason in my mind to get the 360 version, Live or no Live... Unless you have no PS3... But I'm sure we all have both as we're all Power Gamers here, n'est pas? And even if you DON'T have a PS3, then I can safely bet you own a PC for the simple fact that you are at this forum. Unless you're surfing this on your modded 360?

Agreed...360 version would be TOTAL fail.  Have you seen the graphics for this game?  No way the 360 will be able to handle it all, unless you want a draw distance of 3 feet and a total lag fest.  Xbox live is made for First Person Shooters, thats why Halo is their flagship.  PS3 online seems to be getting slowly better, and seems it will be directed towards online RPG's.  PC will rain supreme in all categories in gaming, solely because of better hardware.

Sorry, but they like to charge for everything. They will not get XIV for the problems they had with FFX1. Look back at that when they was going to put FFX1 on 360. Had to go thru so much b/s to make that happen. That`s why they said no 360 this time.

Wow, PC gamers are starting to sound more and more like ignorant(ers). The PS3's video processor was built by Nvidia and XBox 360's video processor was built by ATI. The two leading graphic card manufacturers in the industry. And for now, XBox 360 is 30.2 (11.6 US) million strong in sales worldwide compared to PS3's 24.6 (9+ US) million. Companies go to where the money is and a potential chance to cater to 30+ million gamers is huge, no matter where you think their loyalties SHOULD lay. That's nothing to sneeze at. Too bad game companies get this, but gamers are dumb to this fact.

You only stated US numbers...how many PS3's are there in asia, where Final Fantasy is known as the best selling IP ever?  And did you forget the price cut the PS3 just got?  A 120 gb PS3 slim with a less than 10% failrate with free wifi and internet service plus blu-ray costs the same as a 120gb Xbox 360 elite with a 54.5 % failrate, $100 wifi, and $60 for Xbox gold. 

Expect the PS3 to rise in sales greatly in NA and EU by the time FF14 comes around.  Good move to avoid the 360 for an mmo in my opinion, who wants to to pay an internet sub + a game sub to play a game?  I own both, and Xbox 360 is known for great online FPS, but not RPG's.  I think Sony could take a move in that direction with FF14.  That's why I think this game is fail for the 360.

 Dragonage release  was pushed back while they made a console version.  Im betting FF will launch on console and pc at the same time. If it means a wait for one or the other, it will wait.  Game companies want all the revenue they can get and a decent console MMO will sell very well and could sadly start a trend that most of us see coming anyway.

I completely agree with the statement above.  As if recent MMO games weren't anti-social enough as it is.

Adding consoles into the MMO mix (in a big way) will just make them more twitch/action based, and I guarantee more solo oriented than they are currently.

Didn't like any of them and was hoping they would get better over time, but they all were epic fails. Square Enix doesn't know how to make a good game at all. I care.. Final Fantasy is one of the best gaming franchises out there, i guess it's all down to personal opinion but to me FF7/8/9 and 10 were the 4 best games i've ever played.

 SE is clearning trying to reach a new audience by making FF14 more casual-friendly. I can't really blame the console for this as they have proven they can make an MMORPG on consoles and PC without it being an anti-social twitchfest (FFXI)

now on the otherhand....

WoW = Anti-social in the extreme...and no console involvement. If anything is to blame for the recent trend in anti-social gaming, its the success of WoW.

I know that console port to pc games suck. And if what i see coming, comes to pass i hope you enjoy playing your pc games with an xbox controller.

ROFL. While the PS3 might have the CELL processor, it has nothing to do with the GFX on the console.

So far, the XBOX360 has a better GFX processor with more RAM then the PS3!

Not to mention that the developers are not able to fully utilise the CELL processor in the PS3. Making the PS3 no better then XBOX360, except for it's BluRay drive lol.

...so the discussion goes to - personal preference about games and about console preference, and not about the OP news at all.

Personally I like XBOX360 and the quality of games I tried on it, but LIVE is such a money sink, especially when you notice that Sony does NOT charge internet multiplayer service FOR THE SAME GAMES. For example, as I understand, XBOX360 Champions Online players will have to pay monthly fee for the game AND for Live service... Yuck.

In light of recent news of PS3's new slimmer model going for reduced price, leaves you thinking why would anyone buy a XBOX instead of PS3 (if he's buying originals, and not burning pirated games)...

The new Metal Gear Solid is coming out for the 360 as well. I see more Sony only games transitioning to the xbox 360 in the future. We could bring up E3 for you sony fan boys. Project Natal? Who did it? While Sony has a Wii stick clone coming out. Wheres the step forward sony? A funny story before i owned a new generation console i went and visited my friends from college he was running the new COD:WaW on his PS3. I know i hurt his feelings when I said what is this a PS2 game? HDTV and all and he was like nah man its the new call of duty. The graphics just dont seem to great for me on the PS3. Also the controller on the PS3 is more precision based with higher  raised sticks and less resistance on pushing. Thats something I don't like and I believe the Xbox 360 controller has the perfect ballence of resistence. Overall I believe the Xbox 360 is the better console. It does what a "console" should do, yeah we dont have a internet browser but thats why we have computers. Not to mention all the services coming to the 360 such as facebook, twitter, fm.net, etc. Im a strong believer in you get what you pay for and when you can get a year of xbox live for 30 bucks I dont think its a bad bargain.

As for Final Fantasy, Ive never played the MMO but i did enjoy the game on my PS2. In the end Square Enix will give in to xbox for that almighty dollar.

Xbox Live is such a scam...
