Actually, quite a few people were waiting for the headstart on Friday before making a decision on the sub offers due to the giant XP nerf Cryptic enacted earlier this week. They apparently waited until the last day of open beta to try to balance their XP/leveling rate and overdid it by a lot, leaving some pretty big leveling gaps with no quest content. They said they were still working on getting the numbers right and asked everyone to hang in there and trust them. So some folks were waiting until headstart to see if the issue was fixed before committing to one of the special subscription deals. Too late now I guess! |

The only place a limited supply was mentioned was in the initial forum post. The offer was much more prominently advertised on the special offer page of their website and in the two mass emails they sent out. Neither of these mention a limited supply. They do refer to the sub deals as a "limited offer," presumably referring to the time limit, as they did note in big bold letters that the deals were only available prior to launch on September 1. I don't know why anyone would've gone to the forum looking for the single post there that contained the key info. More likely, people just clicked on the giant button on the frontpage, which took you to the special offer page, which didn't say anything about a limited supply. In all fairness, there was the update yesterday at 4:44 pm that they were almost sold out, but by then it was nearly too late. |

To answer the origianl threads question, yes this did turn me away from the game and as such i have removed my gamestop pre-order. I believe this gentlemen on there forum summed it up best for me [q]This. I'm a very casual player... and like to play varying types of games. Before I had a family, it wasn't a big deal- I had a WoW, CoX, TR, and a Station Access at the same time for quite a while, along with a LOTRO lifetime sub. But I can't play that way now, so LOTRO is the only one I have currently, because I don't feel pressured to play if I don't want to. Drop out for a month? It doesn't matter; it's not like I'm paying by the month anyway. But if you're paying, and you feel the bite of the money, you feel like you have to play. And I don't like that. [/q]

Anything with Bill & jack is bound to be a fiasco. All they need to do is get together with Smedly from Sony and we have an MMO Axis of evil. PVP is dueling in a box. And there are only 2 boxes. PVE - not enough content in game to even hit lvl 30 without pulling an Asian Grindfest (that we've seen - we didnt even get to test 2 zones) Bug ridden and nowhere near ready for lauch Public quest objectives - yes, 47 people standing around waiting to click a datapad on a 10 min respawn timer. They have ALREADY completed their first game update and are 1/2 way through the second, yet the basic game is nowhere close to done. Added Micro Transactions after Jack stated he hated them. Lied and misinformed the community multiple times. Then they come in, call everything a misunderstanding. apologize, but do NOTHING to rectify it. (Words without action are nothing). The whole sub thing. Nerfed xp by 80% less than 48 hours before the end of beta, apologized, and it's still nerfed....2 days and 2 patches later. God forbid you get more than 20 ppl onscreen No servers. - everything is on one big shard with limits of 100 ppl per zone. And with a main city hub about the size of....oooo...say...ALL OF THE EASTERN KINGDOMS in wow, it just feels totally empty. Powersets need a ton of work and balance. Head over and do a search for "thunderbolt lunge" That will put you in the ballpark. Costume combinations are restricted to what "they" think looks good. (try to build a samurai. Go ahead. all the parts are there, you just cant put them all on at the same time for some retarded reason) some pre-orders get head starts, others dont. They had D2D send an email out UNSOLICITED by their customers stating no refunds would be given (this one right here is a HUGE source of feelings of being dealt with in a shady manner) They have yet to follow through on one single thing they have promsied in the last month. { Mod Edit } |

First everyone cries fowl they're even offering it..then they stop offering it because they reached the peak projection that finicially makes sense (something they probably never expected to reach so early) and everyone cries fowl again. They can't win if they don't and can't win if they do...the gamer community in today's world is nothing but an entitlement wanting bunch of whiner babies. Its really sad to see how much people cry these days. I mean SWG made sense to cry over atleast because it was a complete ripping scam..it made sense when people cried fowl about Age of Conan because it couldn't and never even tried to truely deliver on everything they yammered about. But crying over a limited offer deal to spend 200 bucks and play the game for life? Yea..you know alot of nuts are going to come out of the wood work and claim fowl despite having no previous interest ... they're the same people that would sue McDonalds because they spilled their own hot coffee on themselves. Obsessed MMO entitlement wishing players = Epic Fail. Atleast cry over something worth while like how the pvp never truely worked during the beta or how bad the first day of OB was but geezus over a limited subscription plan? Boo friggin woo really.... Bad Games aren't ruining the community anymore..its bad Community members. |

Wrong. I just picked up the pre-order last week, and played in the open beta. I didn't get paid until Friday, and my check didn't clear until today. Which when the deadline was August 31st was plenty of time... If I had known there were limited quantities, I would have transferred the money from another account. But if you don't say that it's limited by quantity, but time, people will take you at your word. |

What people fail to realize is that this was adverstized as "limited time" until August 31. NOT limited quantity. So people have a right to be pissed. Frankly if push came to shove Cryptic would be required to offer the deals until then, as advertised. The whole limited quantity thing is only a recent excuse.

I am pretty upset by this. I get paid on the 28th and was going to purchase a lifetime sub then. I was actually excited by the lifetime option and looked forward to playing the game for a long time. Now I will be cancelling my pre-order and waiting for something else. Its not a matter of limiting the lifetime subscriptions, its a matter of telling people one thing and doing another. I know many people probably had the same issue where they get paid at the end of the month and were looking to purchase after payday.
ALSO, the excuse of "we didn't expect it to be so popular" is becoming the blanket excuse for every MMO issue that comes up these days...its sickening. |

It did say in the "small print" that it was limted. I personally bought the 6 month and that was mainly for the star trek beta. |

The main issue I have with Champions Online is simply "Nemesis". You don't get your Nemesis until lvl 25 & the minions can start showing up at lvl 20. I believe this to be correct, but I am to lazy to jump to the site to verify the exact lvl. I played CB & OB and I wasn't really overly impressed with anything. I really wanted to like this game, but it didn't "click" for me and maybe in another post I will highlight what I did like & didn't like. Just an quick FYI you don't get your flight powers until you finish the turtorial usually around lvl 5 or 6. I really think your "Nemesis" should be at the start and there you should make him at the beginning. I simply don't want tot wait till lvl 20 or 25 to start interacting with my "Nemesis" |

Typical scam to suck people in to play there game, and then screw you over where they can, All I can see this doing is hurting subscriptions. Reading this posting tells me not to play this game. I was sort of keen to take a look, but not with this type of thing from the company. I'll keep well clear.

I seriously think it stupid when people say they won't play because of this. Seriously if you were gonna fork that kinda money up front before you had full access to the game chances are not getting a lifetime subscription isn't going to stop you from playing. Now I know some people had the chance to play Closed Beta but alot didn't so why fork over the money for a lifetime sub when you have no idea what awaits u past the lowbie levels? Yeah it sucks but not playing because of this would be dumb not the devs faults PR screwed up don't let their hard work go to waste cause their PR team is dumb. |

if you wanted it that bad you would have moved the money. i call BS on your above statement. also, if you had to wait for a check to clear to spend 200 bucks you probably shouldnt be spending said money on an MMO. |

This is a public relations nightmare for Cryptic...they've had take down their forums due to all the upset players. The folks over at NCSoft must be thrilled about this. They are going to get a lot of new subscribers now that Cryptic has shown its true colors when it comes to customer service. |
