If you say it, it must be true.
Sorry you cant just claim to be the number 1 guild without some sort of official ranking. Its like running a race and winning without the other participants even knowing they are running in that race.
Doing it first doesnt automatically make you better.
How about who did it the fastest? How about who did it with the least amount of people in their raid? How about who did it while not losing any raid members?

actually, there are. world firsts are a gauge that most WoW players accept because it means figuring things out. when Ensidia (the old version) cleared naxx right before DnT it was a big deal, because both guilds had spent i think months sitting at a single boss encounter, that no one in the world could beat. no one had figured out the best way, and worked as hard.
then these 2 guilds figured it out, and beat them, getting the world first and second, and then cleared the hardest instance in Vanilla WoW (which got first at the time was a big debate, due to kel'thuzad bugging out at 2% for one of the guilds)
and now WoW has added the achievements. An achivement that can only be achieved if you clear (new/easy) naxx without anyone dying all in 1 raid period. and the first people to get that achievement get points.
And while I agree with you, "best" is hard to justify. in WoW there has almost been 1-2 guilds that are just SO far ahead of everyone else, that you really can't argue. these people beat the Wrath expansion in 3 days. they are the only ones who have completed all the "hard mode" fights in the new content.
So sadly, they do have some claim to the title #1 guild. I personally think they would lose that title in an instant if Asia was getting WoW content at the same time the western world was getting it, but they aren't. These people don't just kill bosses, the solve them, the rest of the WoW community uses their solution to kill.
that said, meh, screw raiding, its just who can figure out gimmicks. and Arena ratings are just who can abuse the currently most overpowered teams. Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats. |

oh come on people.... they are obviously paid by the company to play their game. They were obviously paid to make that appearance. It's a cute attempt to draw players in although I'm not sure saying "look the super hardcore are playing our game" is the smartest way of advertising.

I'm genuinely interested as to how this news would change anyone's decisions or behaviours, because for the life of me I can't think of anyone who might. |

Well never heard of them.. but then my time in wow was not that extensive since the game weirdness with cows fighting skeletons didnt fit my taste much. If it is indeed a big guild, they will probably keep playing Aion and whatever games they were playing before providing them a good loot income. One of them mentioned they will be playing on the washmachine server, Ariel, so that might be a server to look or avoid aqcording to your taste,, From my vast experience in several mmos, servers with big organized guilds are usually not much fun to play at.. but then its just my opinion, for each his/her own. |

Death an Taxes was the original #1 WoW Guild. I've never even heard of these guys. Oh how I lament the loss of Vanilla WoW. |

Yes hopefully the more "positive" side of the WoW community comes over. I've never encountered more asshats in one game when i played WoW, it's really concerning the type of players i encountered.
That is the prime reason I ditched the game shortly after TBC. Really, WoW is a nice an fun game and I had a blast. But at a given point and having moved to several new servers, I just couldn't stand the amount of asshats and idiots anymore. The WoW community is by far the worst I have encountered! Well.... next to EVE Online and Darkfall that is hehe. When you look at the community in LOTRO or EverQuest 2. It's just a shocking difference really. |

I do have a feeling that they got paid for doing this. And yeah, Nihilum/Ensidia was the top guild in WoW (not sure if they still are) for a long time...when the game was actually hard and making those world firsts ment something. However, we do know that quite a few good PvPers are moving to Aion from WoW. And many due to similar reasons. One being that they like open world PvP more than instanced and e-sports type. First off, they aren't switching from WoW to Aion, they are going to have guilds in both games. But guess that doesn't sound as appealing as a title than the one you posted OP. |

I can't say if they were paid or anything....I do know they were invited to beta, as were other top WoW guilds. Blizzard did the same thing with WoW. They invited all the EQ and DAoC top guilds to beta the game. Pretty smart move I must say. |

Why would a hardcore raiding guild want to move to Aion? |

Many reasons. Most of those guilds are done raiding within two days, if it isn't a progression fight. That leaves 5 days of either playing an alt, bgs, ect. So with the downtime they'll play Aion on off nights. |

Aion's going to much more popular then most of the haters want to admit...maybe it scares them knowing that Aion could be the next big thing and they dont enjoy it? LOL I'm not sure if I'll grab it right away (I may wait until 2010 to see what people think of it before buying) but I can garentee Aion is going to have a huge player base. Whether they can hold onto their players or not? Only time will tell. "Mom, I play Tera for the gameplay I swear!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-2paFdRw_U |

I m not a hater at all, but I got utterly and completely bored of the million CBs. If they did a preview weekend once in awhile I would probably still have my pre order. Sad thing is I know quite a few people that feels the same way. One day I might pick it up but who knows. I personally see it being successful in the West but not the next big thing by a long shot. It will hold second place for awhile but a couple of games I can think of will knock it down a few notches. A good game but I found logging in was a chore not fun after awhile. |

You just described 95% of what I saw in the footage from Blizzcon. |
