And these guys know how to code an engine that will run smoothly......wow!

And yes, the second half was gameplay.

It was all gameplay the second half of the trailer. It was even confirmed by ArenaNet. So you are mistaken. What you mean is that you saw no combat... big deal.. it's going to be the character models swinging their swords at stuff. This trailer gives an amazing amount of information and insight. Way more than any other teaser trailer I've seen for other MMOs.

But I'm excited! Can't wait to be there playing it. :)

Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. let it take us in new directions

I'm also hoping for much better quests this time around. I'm getting sick of MMOs filled with basic "kill X mount of this monster", "collect X amount of that item" quests. Companies keep trying to improve MMO design on pretty much everything BUT coming up with new and innovative ways of questing in them. Blizzard did a good job of improving questing in MMOs and making them fun, but why hasn't anyone else taken this and just ran with it?

Erm, Guild Wars is about the only MMO NOT to be filled with collect X amount of Y quests...there's like 5 of them in total. WoW, on the other hand, is full of them. So what you say above is very contradictory.

That being said:

"I think I can safely say that you won't see a single exclamation mark floating above a character's head in Guild Wars 2," claims lead designer Eric Flannum.

"We actually don't have a traditional RPG/MMO quest system," Flannum continues. "Instead what we've got are Events. Think of them as group-orientated activities. This is one of the many things that will encourage the player to explore the world - you can wander through and never quite know what you're going to see. You might come across a fortress that's being attacked by centaurs, or it might be that the centaurs attacked half an hour before you got there and they hold it now. You might start walking along a road you've walked a hundred times and suddenly there's a caravan travelling along that road that you may not have seen, and you can go help that caravan out."

I did the 14day free trial of GW not too long ago. Mostly because I found out it had a Necromancer class. Ever since Diablo 2 I've been a huge fan of Necros, when they are done right. It only took a one day of playing the game for me to get sick of it. The quests I did were pretty basic, annoying, and not inspiring in the least. Also, to me anyway, the Necro class was awful.

Maybe it would of gotten better if I kept playing, but it was just too painful.

And yes, WoW does have allot of basic styled quests, I never said it didn't, but Blizz at least makes them interesting and fun. Like cool cinematic like sequences that will trigger for quests that deal with the main story line, using special, sometimes very cool items the NPC gives you to accomplish the quest. Hopping on a huge giant and controlling him or using a kamikaze unit to kill the enemies for you are just a few things for instance. Not you praise WoW too much however, I quit playing it a few months ago because I began to grow bored of it too.

But anyhow, thanks for posting that bit about how they aren't using a traditional guest system, sounds pretty cool. Basically 24/7 in-game events built into the system. Should be very interesting to see.

What about the necro class did you not like? I've found it plays pretty similar to the one from diablo2 as far as minions are concerned. As for damage spells, of course they're a bit different, but the spells for the GW necro are much more elaborate than the bone / curse tree of diablo 2

I agree with you. and the guy who said "Blizz at least makes them interesting and fun. Like cool cinematic like sequences that will trigger for quests that deal with the main story line, using special, sometimes very cool items the NPC gives you to accomplish the quest." obviously didnt play very far through the game at all. I imagine he never left pre-searing ascalon. There are cutscenes everywhere in guild wars. especially for main quests and "Missions"(Missions more than quests). Play the game again and play through it. Trust me theres more to guild wars than just basic quests...I wouldn't have really tried the necromancer class to start off with. I would've tried something more along the lines of an elementalist. And if you've never played before picking up a mesmer would've been a very bad idea. Mesmers are very complicated and require some patience to master, but once mastered are very powerful. Even to the strongest players.

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Amazing trailer.

Is GW2 going to be fully instanciated as GW1 or will it have a real multiplayer world this time?

Btw, I already hate the litte gnomes with the robot pets.

NCSoft is known for great looking games, look at Aion and Blade n Soul as well. Graphics won't be the only thing that gets me playing though, like most of you say, if the game-play is like the first, than no thank you, instancing really kills a game.

Correction, it is Arenanet not NCsoft. NCsoft is the publisher, Arenanet is the developer when it comes to Guild Wars.

Looks great. I will definitely try it.

I am hoping my machine can handle that kind of graphics though.

I really like how Guild Wars has been the last 4-5 years.  And to see that Guild Wars 2 will be even more interactive with the environment, meaning jumping and swimming...that...to me is gonna really boost this game's ranking even more and plus the new races really allows for more exploration and different story lines which nevertheless are just superb in the first Guild Wars anyways...so yeah I'm REALLY looking forward to Guild Wars 2...^^
