Thanks for the link Tillamook. Looks interesting to say the least.

Holy crap! Finally a game that does combat as good as Warcraft.

I'm going to keep an eye on this.

Playing: WoW, EvE

Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514

The combat looks really fun! The story-telling looked good too.

Yeah no mmo before wow had that kind of stuff.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Like I've been saying since the day they announced this:

It looks like an AMAZING upgrade to KotOR, plus coop.  An MMO on the other hand, it is not.

Hmm...as a gamer who has had a hard time staying with one game since leaving EQ1 back in 2003, Im kinda excited to see a more story driven/mission based game. If it had difficulty options similar to what was in DnD to facilitate playing alone vs going in with a group then it would be even better. I have a hard time establishing a group of friends to  try games with being in the military and always moving around. The combat seems a bit more action oriented with the rolling/cover mechanic and the abilities to close gaps quickly with a meele(sith) to keep things moving quickly. I agree that most of the footage we saw was likely not indicative of the actual difficulty level of the final release(who wants to watch a demo of some PR guy dieing repeatedly). BTW..i know this only feeds the trolls, but all the wow clone kiddies need to grow up. WOW was not the beginnig and wont be the end of MMO's (well, it could be the end the way the communities seem o be shifting)...that being said, it has been a very succesful game. Everything blizzard touches turns to gold....thats nothing new, this was just on a (pun incoming) MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER scale. Im excited to play this game, and im hoping that it has enough to hold my attention more thana month or two.

Wish they hadn't gone with the clone wars style graphics. What a bummer. I much prefer the way the KOTOR games looked. Oh well!! No comment other than that, didn't really get enough information from the released videos.

After a few months of little to no updates on the official site beside the every now and then class and other misc updates. I can easily say this video sparked my intrest once again. Even with all the "looks wow like" posts, this game seems to support team play far better then any MMO I have played. Lets just hope thats the case.

I see a trend already. Jedi was doing at least 2x the damage the smuggler and bounty hunter did at low levels, and the same with the higher level segment.

Seemed like a trade off. The smuggler had what seems to be great defense mechanics (cover system) while bounty hunter had AoE and CC mechanics. Not to mention you just seen the classes from 4-10. Damage i'm sure changes later on.

First of all, I came on to say that the videos really got me excited.  I did not want to like this game because I did not want to have to play two MMOs at the same time (this and Final Fantasy XIV) but I now realize that is exactly what I will be doing.

What I really liked the most is the part where they need to get through the door and the Bounty Hunter was able to blow up the door.  It reminded me of Dungeons and Dragons where a Rogue was needed to unlock things or find traps.  However, I would be very interested in finding out what the consequences are if there was not a BH to blow up the door.  Can the Sith just beat it down?  If so, then I'm not so impressed.  But I don't want the mission to be a failure either if there is no BH present.  So what happens?  The answer to that question will really let me know how good this game will be.

Tillamook, thank you for posting the link.  On a seperate note, I do not mean any disrespect or flaming here but you clearly do not know what FFXIV is about.  I'm not saying you should know but just suggesting you research it a little more before you throw out a lot of statements that are way off base.  But again, this is not meant to be an insult and I think both games look excellent.

Allright, first... that video is pure awesomeness.

The game itself looks very nice, and all the voice acting are done perfectly. The combat seems to be fairly fast and "cool" (Yeah, lets blast the enemies with bombs, how nice is that!)...

The models... well, im starting to like them more and more, I never really "hated" them, just had a little dislike against them. Now, they seem to be cool, and fitting to the game.

Except FF has been on a constant state of decline, its a crap game and can no longer stand on the single player foundation it started from.  Much like KOTOR is doing by going MMO FF tried that, produced junk and ended up where they are.  So I would say it's a bloody long way's from 50/50 in KOTOR's favor.  IMO.

And where are you basing off your claims? On the fact that new FF's are still coming out after 20 years, or the fact that the first FF MMO was 5th most successful MMO in the market ever?

Or because every new FF title has sold over 5 million copies worldwide?

Sounds like someone hates the franchise just for the sake of hating.. too bad only baseless claims won't make the game fail =P

EDIT: By your definition, Blizzard made WoW because they could no longer stand on the RTS foundation they started from... oh but Blizzard is different, I forgot!

Yeah you're right, and I have seen it ranked as high as 4th in some places.  I still stand behind my original statement that I think KOTOR will be a much bigger title than FF.

As far as BLIZZ.  It's number 1, and will be for the forseeable future.  Good job brining that up, since it is a newer ocmpany than FF and is still blowing them away, proving that longevity has nothing to do with popularity.

As far as me hating on FF just to hate on it.  Nope I could not care less if it succeeds or is the biggest flop to hit the streeets ever.  Either way it will not effect my life at all.  As I stated in my original post, it's my OPINION, and is in no way a fact at this point and only time will tell.

You seem like a very excitable person, calm down it's just a game, you can still love it with all your heart, no one is going to bash you for that.

I guess I wasn't the only one who noticed that. Weird.

Oh, and for the record, this is the first MMO I've truly been excited about in a very long  time. The combat animations are amazing. Cover is awesome, too. I think my first character will be a smuggler.

Wow didn't have a very RPG story line. All wow had was kill this and fetch me that quests. Bioware actually seems to want to create a story for you to follow that is based off your responses to NPC characters. That to me is freaking awesome!!! Seems also that Bioware might include the character alignment system that was in Kotor 1-2 into this game. That would be awesome as well if they do pull that feature off along with the interactive and meaningful dialogue choices. Also the character AI seemed pretty damn nice. Finally a game where PC's will actually try to fight back in a meaningful manner. I love how the PC's got into cover or switched up weapons depending on whether they were fighting long or short range. I was not a big fan of this game when I first heard about its development. Frankly I was very skeptical but this has got me interested and excited.

Games I've played:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, LoTRO, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars, Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H.

Games I Am Currently Playing:

Checking out Darkfall and Fallen Earth ( Taking a break from EVE )

Looks great and all, but I'm still put off by the combat.

It was cool that there some actual dynamics there; the ranged characters hiding behind obstacles and the melee characters visually parrying the opponents attacks; but it just seemed to lack that sense of urgency and challenge. If I wasn't paying close enough attention to the healthbars to see it twitch once and a while, I'd swear that they were playing the game with godmode on.

At no point throughout any of that combat footage did you have any inclination that the player character might be in actual danger. I get that we're supposed to be the iconic heroes and everything, but I don't think that should mean being able to faceroll everything with utter complacency.

Nope, that's a pointless forum troll tossing around meaningless derivative labels in an attempt to justify his own sad devotion to that ancient religion (pretending that playing an MMO for 50 hours a week is an accomplishment).

I play games on a casual basis; by which I mean I play them infrequently and for irregular periods of time. I don't want easy, I don't want dull, and I sure as hell don't want to be able to faceroll everything in sight. I want combat that is fun, fast, and difficult.

And I don't wanna waste 5 hours of my life a night to get it.

But thanks for your input.

You must've missed my sarcasm. I know there's 2 kinds of 'casual', the 'easy' and the 'less time consuming' kind.

The problem is that developers think both types are necessary for the game to be successful, thus we see farces like godmode-MMO's that couldn't challenge a 5-year-old.

I'm still waiting for the casual game you described, that doesn't think of me as a retard that doesn't like challenges =/.

This is common when games are first shown off. The character IS in god mode, notice how he never healed or used any type of stim packs? When the game goes live, you will not be able to just plow through all that content we just saw without healing once.

People have to remember that the gameplay footage you just saw is rigged and fixed - they are just showcasing mainly the game engine and the VO's, and giving you a sense of what to expect - A.I difficulity and all that stuff are never truely shown in game demos.

KOTOR presented a good mix of casual and yet challenging game play - in fact, all bioware games do, they do this very well. I don't think we have to worry about SWTOR being "too easy " or "too casual" - It's realistic to expect a good range of both casual and hardcore.

As far as open world content, there was an interview a few months back stating that there will be exploring and open world. How much is yet to be seen. It won't be SWG open-world like, as in, land on a planet and literally spend 45 min going from one end to the other, but thats abit excessive and unnecessary anyways. I believe it was the lead dev that said that if you wanted to take a break from the story and just find some mobs spread about and do leveling the old fasion way, you could. So there will be *some* open world content.

I don't believe the footage was to suppose to answer all the questions, like how mmo'ish will it really be? We saw 2 players together in 1 storyline arc, but can we have 4 or maybe even 8 players in a group? Will that be for more epic story arcs? Who knows. What about player housing, communities, crafting, economy, etc? None of these things have been addressed yet but we shouldn't assume its not gonna be in the game. They just haven't been addressed yet, thats all. They did state a few months that pvp would be in the game - so theres a whole new other element we haven't seen yet.

All in all im impressed with the direction SWTOR is going, how people are saying this is a WoW clone is beyond me - the fact that *each* class will have its own full story arc - fully voiced - is already as non-WoWish as you can get! - and we haven't even see the full games potential.

This game is what SWG shouldve been IMO. Hopefully they shut that POS down when this comes out.
