I've noticed on many forums around the web, many people are excited for Cataclysm and many are groaning that they are going to have to buy another expansion. As such, I got to thinking about the pricing of this new expansion. Can Blizzard even sell this expansion? I mean, if they are going to reshape the original continents, change game mechanics, and quests and talents, how can they charge for this expansion? There is no way that Azeroth would stay the same if you didn't buy the expansion. Obviously, the one thing that Blizzard could charge for would be the new races and the new class combos. But everything else mentioned would need to be added for everyone, or the game would have big problems. Will this be a free expansion? |

No. ...and all the WoW players will still buy it. This is a non-issue. |

If they implemented the "new" versions of the old zones using the same phasing technique they use in parts of Northrend, then the old game and the new expansion could exist side by side and I think this would settle some of the issues with reusing the old zones. As far as will it be free; I would say it won't. Blizzard can make money on it, phasing or not, so why wouldn't they? Additionally, I can't imagine they would be putting as much effort into hyping it if they didn't intend to turn that hype into the maximum potential profit. Just my two cents though. None of this is based off anything Blizzard has indicated. -mklinic "There's a point I think we're missing. |

i imagine that the expansion will cost 30 to 40 dollars. which does not bother me because if it is an actual good xpac then ill be wiling to buy it. |

They're adding 7 new zones which is basically the size of northrend and theres the new starting areas and races and class combos and all the instances. Also theres a ton of stuff that Blizzard have yet to announce so expect more content. Blizzard havn't answered how the Cataclysm even happens, maybe the phasing plays a role like the Death Knight starting area.
Go buy any SOE expansion and see how ripped off you get there lol. I bought ToOW for SWG and completed every bit of content in 3 days. |

The "cataclysm" will take place for all players but those that buy the expansion will have access to the new races, new profession, 7 new zones, and the level 85 cap. |

Free? Of course not. With the fanbois in a narcotic stupor with the xapc a year away they will charge at least $40 and have them fighting for the prestige of being the first on their block to own a copy. Blizzard could sell an empty box and they would think they got a good deal. It has to be true, i have internet links. |

You friend, get a interwebz-cookie for knowing what you're talking about. Blizzard made this very clear, yet people are still screaming and crying.
