from what i ve heard the proposed new expansion does nt offer much in the way of new landmasses etc but what it does do is revamp the old areas . some of it sounds interesting i ll admit but in the  back of my mind is that in some ways its blizzards way of putting thier hands up and say ok we ve screwed up so rather than put the game right in a series of patches we ll do so in the form of a paid expansion pack . the cynic in me thinks suddenly ok they are going to try and put things right  but they are going to make you pay for it . nice of them .

Looking over whats been said about this expansion is it does indeed endevour to remedy some of the problems that have been obvious to all but a few blinkerd fanbois . Its actually quite wise of Blizzard to take on board some of whats so obviously gone wrong with the game in recent years .  I m starting to see this expansion a pay for a fix type deal too . I m sure it ll offer plenty of new content but at its core it going to be aimed at bring some of the fun and challenge lacking in Warcraft at present .

Mind you if it manages to put warcraft back on the right track i wont mind paying for it . Of course i may be happily emersed in Aion by that time .

There are 7 new zones, thats an expansion it its self but then we add the 30+ original zones getting reworked and not just visualy, the level requirments are changing for some zone, some zones that were maybe lvl 10-20 they could lvl 40-45.

lol its not need that drives Blizzard its greed . Its a success of course but WoWs gameplay has been ever more aimed at younger players for the last few years and the game has started to lack any real challenge apart from a hanfull of endgame bosses and arena play . As to health problems ,given the amount of time you WoW players spend online playing that game i would think its more likly you would be prone to suffering from physical and mental health issues . lol ;)

Blizzard could do the same with WoW as SOE did with Everquest; a "sequel". Yeah, World of Warcraft 2... All the changes you have seen but all in a new game. Not a revamp. No, a whole new game.

For once the story has an impact on the world in a MMOG. Its not just an expansion, it changes the whole game.

Over ten million subscribers and probably >20 million copies sold.

Yeah, they totally screwed up.  It's horrible.

This is Blizzard doing what should have been done a long time ago in the genre. World progression is what I love and I love seeing a boss just lay waste to the land. Give me a reason for us to want to kill him not just "hes going to take over the world :o". I already talked to some friends who say they want to level new characters in the new zones, and I'm excited that they said there will be more raids then any expansion they have done.

Well typing multiple times "lol" for a well known Wow hater is one thing.

But smile with a pain is more likely :)))

That expansion is so huge, you could fit 4 Aion's into it alone.

Oops.

Well i find it funny .... did you actually read my earier post . i said i would happily pay for an expansion that would put warcraft right .

How does that make a known wow hater ?

Think Zorndork sees wowhaters under the bed these days because hes so worried about Aion . hahaha

Path of the Titans

* Talent trees won't be extended, you will just get 5 more talent points.
* The Path of the Titans will let players follow a path (not restricted to classes), this is a new talent system with new skills and passive abilities.
* A mastery system is being added as well, a lot of talents will be reworked to be more fun. The point is to get rid of a lot of the talent skills and not make you spend all your points in a talent tree just because it gives you more damage or higher crit chance.

What does this mean ? Talent trees getting a revamp and a more in depth feeling to them allowing for a stronger specialization of the class you are playing ?

This interests me the most from out of everything they have said thus far.

I wouldn't say that the impending changes to Azeroth constitute an admission that the early game is flawed; not at all.

Blizzard have made quite a few technological steps forward since 2004; that's easy to see when you compare vanilla level 1-60 WoW content with that which was introduced with WotLK and they're not exactly hurting for development money. Spending some of that to rejuvenate the levelling content is a very smart thing; it adds replay value for alt-a-holics and should provide a much more varied and quality experience for newer players.

I'm also very interested in "progress through the path system, a new way for players to improve characters." .. could we be looking at a possible switch from item-ladder to a different form of end-game progression?

The game is not a mess.    It's awesome.    I use to so dislike this game - did the beta of WoW and couldn't stand it.  I tried to like it when it first released - but couldn't get over the graphics and the hold your hand game play   Then they released BC, which changed some things and added some cool features and brought in Blood Elves and I was like cool I will now play WoW.   Been playing since then.    With the release of WotLK I have been playing this game more and more.   Blizzard is not ruining or breaking their game - it is just growing and ever changing and instead of getting worse the game just gets better and better.

This is another reason WoW just rocks!   I gots dragon!   :)

Considering the whole rework is doing all the old levels and new zones I think it's amazing and tbh atleast Blizzard admit their faults rather than SOE and the CU and NGE.

I agree with this.  Looking at the features list for Cataclysm it's pretty obvious it's aimed almost directly at people who have unsubbed.  Given that all signs currently point to WoW actually losing subscribers since WoTLK launched, this makes sense from a business perspective.

As I said on the WoW forums though the devil is in the details - I'd love to see a couple of the huge, epic classic-like dungeons (Dire Maul was my favorite 5-man ever), heriocs that aren't a joke, and hard modes for raids that aren't just gimmicks for a title.  But overall I like what I see - I think I'll actually resub for this, hope Blizzard offers a Battle Chest for WoW when it launches so I don't have to buy WoTLK too.  Not sure if I'll be like the other ten million people rolling Worgans or roll another Drenai - I had a lot of fun with my Shaman, probably go for a priest though.

It's quite exciting from a mmo front since other mmos typically don't go back to their old content. I don't think it's a Blizzard way of admitting they've made a mess but I think it's more that they've thought of improvements- and certainly enhancement to the core levelling up range (1-60) is very desired by players.

As others have already said, this looks more like Blizzard simply applying what they've learned and their new technological advancements to their early content more than fixing their "mistakes."

I also agree that this is an expansion meant to draw in people who have left WoW, which is probably a group as large, if not larger, than their current player base. You don't even need the expansion to try the re-worked zones, so plenty of old players can simply pay a quick $15 or make a 14-day trial account and see what the new Barrens, etc. looks like. If that isn't a way to call back the flock, I don't know what is. Then again, maybe Blizzard's stats show that rerollers are a big part of WoW's playerbase and this expansion is meant to cater to them. Combine reworked quests and loot with faster XP gain and suddenly people won't be struggling to bring their newest toon to max level.

If anything, the only fault I see is that it seems like the people who buy the expansion may be getting less bang for their buck relative to what non-expansion people are getting.

Tis an ill wind that blows no minds.

Changing the game's systems would be a way of admitting they made a mess of the game.  Changing the world is just a way of admitting that the content has become stale.

All of the +3% damage to this or +5% crit to that talents are being removed. Those types of talents will be given to you free for having a certain amount of points in the tree.
They want all the talents to be talents that give you extra spells or change how standard spells work.

No, the new expansion is Blizzard's way of shaking things up and trying to advance the game. I dont agree with how they are doing it but I am excited to see the finished results.
I have 8 characters over level 70 and I swore that I would never level another character from level 1 again. But now I want to. I want to see the changes made to the low level zones. The land, the characters, the quests, everything.

Nah, the new expansion is just admitting they could of done alot more - throughout each current expansion.  Its more of "throw a dog a bone" and a method to keep those playing it still playing it for years to come, even with new games showing promise.  Its all business & blizzard has the death grip - you don't make that much money going off 'whims', their business model is more intelligent than I could of even imagined.

I'm actually happy to see the revamp...it means more income (and the quality devs) toward the other titles :)

They aren't admitting anything, they started on this new Xpac before WOTLK even came out, they new what they wanted to do to continue the story and flow of the game.

People keep trying to scream about this using old content crap, but they can't take the blinders off to see how much is really changing, but why try to convince people that don't give a shit about Warcraft anyways?
