MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Patrick Breeden writes this look at Battlegrounds in Blizzard's hit MMO.

Online games and raw chaos normally go hand in hand. Ever since the early days of DOOM for the PC and other various first-person shooters, there has been a chaotic nature to online gaming that players couldn't get enough of. As time went on, the evolution of online gaming brought about team-based variants such as Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch. These variants have been such a huge success that they're now staples for more or less any first-person shooter or third-person shooter that one could buy for the PC or console. Rejoice, fellow console gamers! World of Warcraft has a similar variant of gameplay that I find addictive and possibly the most satisfying aspect of the game. Today we will have a "console to WoW" look at Battlegrounds.

"experience isn't earned in Battlegrounds... yet. "

Except that it was added in patch 3.2 a couple weeks ago. Is it just me or are the quality of articles here actually getting worse over time? Particularly with regard to WoW.

This was sent in over two weeks ago.  I'm not sure I understand how posting this late instantly makes me a bad writer.  I'd much rather you read the entire thing and make an opinion.

I also wrote an opinion editorial on the patch changes and sent that in a good five days ago.  It's posted when it's posted; I have no control over that.

Oh, is it still "cool" to make fun of the articles? Meh. Not like anybody spent money to read it. Damn kids.

What Happened With SWG Went Down YEARS AGO! Please Try To Stop Whining About It In Every Thread I Read. Mourn It, And Finally MOVE ON With Your Lives! Thanks A Heap.

This article on the Battlegrounds was VERY badly timed.

Since patch 3.1 and patch 3.2 sooo many things changed in the core WOW mechanics, this article shouldn't have been published.

A few random remarks that didn't make it to the article:

1. You now gain experience in taking objectives within a BG. VERY important feature for people wanting to do PvP and level. Some BG's give more experience than others (like AV or AB). But it is a real boost in BG's while leveling.

2. Joining the BG's from ANYWHERE. Meaning you do quests in open world (PvP or PVE) and can join a queue for a BG without any loss of time. You finish the BG and hop you continue your quests (giving some very nice" PvP on" buffs even on PVE servers :))

3. Twinks are  -  rarely seen these days in the normal leveling Bg's. Twinks outlevel their BG's unless they turn OFF experience gains in ALL fields of the game, but at that time they can only play BG's with other people who shut off Experience. So still talking about twinks in this article is old and really talking of an old game mechanic in the normal BG's.

The BG's are far more enjoyable now for most leveling up characters.

4. Heirdom gear can be given to your leveling characters with ... resilience. A blast ! Making PvP resilienced gear availabale for a low level character is fantastic for PvP servers and lovers of PvP play in the BG's now.

5. Dual specs and in game gear changer: making indeed it possible to do PVE quests with PVE gear, then go into a line for a BG, then enter the BG and swith to PvP gear AND even go to PvP spec --- all by pushing 2 buttons.....

What possibilities !

--- All these changes were introduced in recent months and indeed like the author said they were never even mentioned in the article because the timing of publishment was bad.

It shows one thing: people can't even follow these changes anymore. And for the actual players they are a boom to gameplay as it opens up complete new BG experiences while leveling.

Article should be redone. That's clear.

Good points. The article seemed a bit short overall. Although I completely understand that 3.2.2 was not out when the writer was writing this.
