Oh and you might add reason, purpose behind your pick as well as your race, and server name. Overall this topic will help players get extra info on all classes and a better idea how the class balance will be.

I will be:

Assassin
Chanter
Cleric
Gladiator
Ranger
Sorcerer
Spiritmaster
Templar

Asmo SM

I am, and always have been, a sucker for elementals.

From D&D through MUDs, UO, EQ1, etc... always a sucker for the elemental classes.

And from what I hear about SM here... I am an even bigger sucker than I thought! LOL

I am so not a min/max sorta guy though... I love the journey regardless of how gimp I am :)

Assassin alt, also Asmo

Edit -

I am not sure which server yet

My wife and I haven't chosen a race yet, but I'm for sure going to be a templar and her a cleric. Its just too good of a combo to pass up on.

This has been asked a lot.

So far it seems like most classes will be pretty evenly played, with SM lagging behind a bit.

I don't think that a poll on these forums is a good representation of how many players each class will get. The people voting in this poll are all people who have followed the game, played the beta, read a lot about it. My point being that if you look - gladiator has the least but you can almost guarantee that when people come in for the open beta who have heard nothing about it, or buy it after launch, the majority are going to go for the slice and dice melee tank style.

EDIT: I'm an Elyos templar :)

People are going to sooooo whine about playing a ranger.  Takes 80% longer to level than any other class, at least to the mid teens.

I will roll an Assassin as my main.  I've always loved the thief/rogue/ninja/assassin types, and they're usually what I choose first.  If I decide to roll an alt it will be a templar or cleric.

I think that is a little over exaggerated just a bit dont you? While I only made it to 11, I did do that with three classes and they all took about the same amount of time. The big difference I saw with my ranger was that it took a little more prep time (i.e. choosing your targets carefully) before attacking. To be honest, my ranger seemed to take much less damage than my templar did at the same level. Go figure...

Very interesting poll results so far! Cleric wins! And I found this class one of the best to play and seemed most survivable.

Ehm? Up to level 10 you are indeed a melee char, so you base your opinion of leveling a ranger from lvl 10 to 11?

Anyways, using a bow before level 19 is just a waste of time, it goes much faster to level with two daggers and play the assasin role up to 19 when you finally get some decent ranged skills.

If played correctly ranger can be leveled at roughly the same speed as any other char.

I've played a Cleric, Ranger, Sorcerer and Spirit Master.  The ranger took over 80% longer at 6.5 hours to get to lvl 11; Sorc and SM in 3 hours; cleric in 4 hours(was my first char so slow to learn the game);  I actually under-exaggerated because its more like 115% longer.  And, as the last guy posted, Rangers get a bow that's not worth using until the late teens.  I am most certainly NOT over exaggerating when I say that people are going to notice it takes twice as long to level a Ranger and they're most definately going to whine when they find out that they're still more effective by being a Ranger that doesn't use a bow until the late teens.

This doesn't make any sense. This would have to apply for both ranger and assassin as the class splits at level 10 and you are charting the time it takes to get to level 11?. I leveled all the classes past level 20 in the chinese client and it's fairly well balanced until you get to 20+ where certain classes start to lag behind others in leveling speed.

I chalk this one up to player skill.

Chanter here.  I got tired of how RvR pvp ends up being about super spike damage dealers who get all the kills and no kind of support to go along.  Plus paladin is usually my favorite character and I got tired of warriors so chanter it is.

A wise GM once told me,
"a game is balanced when everyone complains equally about their classes"

firstly, sineath. it does not take 6.5 hours to get to level 11. u must be completing every quest u see on ur way if u level this slowly. (by the way ur not supposed to) it takes roughly 2-3 hours to get to level 10 with a scout. 2 hours if ur fast and 3 hours if ur slow. but 6.5 hours? thats another 3-4 hours to make ONE level. i think the problem is that you're slow. although its true that rangers will be slower at leveling because they dont get much of a boost at level 10, it wont be 115% slower. maybe 20-30% slower. and as TheStarheart said, if rangers are so hard to level to 11, the same would apply for assassins, as they get their job split at level 10.

Elyos Chanter! In any game I like playing the class that heals but still is up at the front lines (like DoK in WAR). Only problem is I heard priest classes level slower than the others after 20... but we'll just have to wait and see...

Tanks have always been my thing, thus the Templar is the best choice for me. Though they don't do as much damage as all the other classes they can withstand nearly everything you throw at them.

plus being the only class that can wild plate (other than gladiator) and a shield is a huge pluss.

Erm, actually, if you add them all up, roughly 66% of people are going for DPS, roughly 16% for healing (clerics) and roughly the same for tanks (templars).

In a group, you don't need millions of healers or millions of tanks. So no, there aren't too many clerics.

EDIT: In fact, now that I've done the research, groups of 6 means there should be, in a normal server, 1/6 of healing players, 1/6 of tanking players, and 4/6 of hurting players. If you divide one by six you get 16%, and four by six you get 67%.

All this to say that the real crowded class is Sorcerer.

Not to ofend or anything but during the betas when i was playing, the crowded class seemed to be Gladiator. I could be wrong tho,...

When i first started playing WoW I played a warrior for 3 years, It was my kinda thing tanking and all the rest. But i then played a lock as my main for a year or so and never really looked at a melee class again. But aion kinda took me back to my 'roots' i started as a mage and played the first 4 levels but it just wasn't my play style really. The warrior class however was me through and through, definitely will be playing warrior/gladiator on release.
