Sevral years ago i played Lineage 2. Lineage 2 was in Openbeta 2 months before the release in april 2004. Me and my friends had char over lvl 40 at that time , and was realy nervuos about char swipe. The swipe never happend , and we kept our char after open beta. Since Lineage 2 and Aion is from the same DEV , this might accure once agian, wich i hope. Anyhows, will there be a Open beta ? and in that case wouldent that start now or in the days to come since there is just a month left until the release.

No, because there's a 2 day head start for people who pre-ordered. There is no point in allowing people to keep their OB chars and also offer a "2 day head start".
So, no. They'll wipe. |
|

then there would be no point in head start for those who pre ordered... you will not keep your character from OB.. if you dont like the swipe, dont play OB, or atleast dont play it/them, to a too high lvl. |

edit. Well i can see this happen. Lets say open beta start today, we all can play until sep 19 for exaple , and than they only let the Pre order customers play before the release of the retailversion. for me that would be great, and not impossible. |

I forget where I read it, but they said early on that the Beta chars would be wiped. It wouldn't really be fair to have a bunch of people start the game at higher levels, would it? |

Ofcourse you'd rather play a month before than a headstart since headstart is only 2 days for US and 5 days for EU (cause of later release date in EU)
but you can't... They promised the pre-order people a headstart, and by allowing people to keep their char in OB they would make Head start useless, and make alot of people angry.

Well you reward them with the same emont of time as said earlier , 48 h head start. But you let ppl play open beta untill headstart. And by that you do commercial for the game, to let me play in a open beta and than a head start is more worth to me than not play at all untill head start. I dont se why you aint see that. To me it sound like you have to start before all ells that has not pre ordered so you can be sevral lvls ahead them, to brag or something. To me its all about play time and if i get to play open beta from 1 sep, to 19 sep and a head start right after is great. Those who have not pre ordred has to suffer by not being able to play for 2- 3 days, and you reward the pre orders with 3 extra days. And NC Soft gets there commercial out and all are happy. am i right or not ? |

If they allowed everyone who played open beta to keep their characters ( who by the end of the OB will be of a high level), then the two or 3 extra days head start would not be significant to those who pre-ordered.
For instance: Player 1 does not pre- order but does play the OB. He levels his char to 30 over the week's OB then is forced to take a three day break for the pre-order headstart; after which he continues from lvl 30. -Player 2 pre-orders and plays open beta. They level their character to 30 over the week's OB, then in the headstart, being such a high level, the few days are not enough to get a significant lead over player 1.
It's all about NCSoft rewarding those who have guaranteed them sales on launch date. |

I know a lot of people are partial to keeping characters from an Open Beta. But as the process is properly labeled open BETA, it should be widely accepted that the game is still in the testing phase, hence the word BETA.
Yea, you put all of that hard work in but, look at it this way... all of that hard work is going towards making the game better for the general public and shouldn't be considered a loss.
Personally, I am going to go into the open beta with the intent of finding more bugs and becoming more familiar with the game. I want this game to be successful and in truth, it is its players that make a game successful. Well, that and of course developers addressing player concerns and bug finds (lets all hope there is an awesome development team backing this game).
My two cents. |

Kill 1 in peace time and you are a murderer, kill 100 in war time and you are an hero! |
There was a wipe in Lineage 2 Openbeta. Theres always a wipe before game goes live.. wouldnt make sense otherwise.

No there wasn't. At least not for the North America version. Most pay to play games do have a wipe between OB and Live, but some do not and L2 was one that didn't. A lot of free to play games don't have a wipe between OB and Live as well. |

Details on the next betas Over at the AionSource forums, community manager Ayase posted the following details on the next the beta events: "Regarding CBT6. It is the last one. We are wiping all characters after it and will then move to Open Beta. After Open Beta we will wipe again and launch our head start." So: one more closed beta, then character wipe, then open beta, then character wipe, then headstart event, then general launch. Everyone still with me? If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand. |

no, it is about getting to a higher lvl. to reward the players that preorder. it only costs $5 to preorder at gamestop or EB games and the money you spend on preorder goes towards your purchase. |

The headstart is the reward for preordering, not the beta. Beta, open or closed, is for testing, not free play time. They let people in if and when they need/want testing, not just to let you play for free. Every beta that I have been in has had a character wipe at the end (and several throughout), including several NCSoft games. Lineage 2 was an exception to the rule. Almost all betas have wipes, which, in my opinion, is good |
