I too was a bit disappointed with the ingame footage. It looks great don't get me wrong! I must have been expecting something else. It looked much like the previous game engine with enhancements though. I guess its fine to work with something you know that works. Easier than just building one from scratch. Leaves you time to work on something that matters more: gameplay. Can't wait to get to beta.

Playing: EvE
Played: GW, Vanguard, WAR, PotBS, AoC, Atlantica Online
Tried: Auto Assault, CoV, FoM, Planetside, DDO, Lineage 2, Anarchy Online, Tabula Rasa, Fallen Earth
Liked: GW, DDO, AoC

i think thats because they wanted the trailer to look like the concept art ?

They  said they will use a new game engine.

The  ingame footage looks very good. I did not like the cinematic effects in the trailer. Especially the dragon opening his eye...

I agree. It litterly blew me away.

It has been a long time since I was blown away as with this trailer and it's ingame footage.

The sole reason I hated GuildWars 1, was because it was so heavily instanced and chopped up in small zones. People were spread out over way too many instances. Way too many zones.

Here in Guild Wars 2 we finally see non-instanced vast open world zones.

Very diverse as well. From open land, to lush rainforests, to vast snow covered zones (my gf will love this) to more Steampunk / Tech intensive like zones.

Really nice! And they seem to take the same F2P approach again. Just hope they don't slap an Item Mall to it and just stick to the "Gain Cash through initial box and frequent paid expansion pack sales" plan!!

And I actually liked the Concept Art stuff in this trailer. It gives some recognition and respect for the Concept Artists!

Cheers

so true! much of the reason why GW1 is so beautiful, and as we can see GW2 will be too, is cuz of the great artists working at ANET!

In what way? Show me one Guild Wars 1 ingame video that shows a seamless vast open world.

and thats cuz the current Guild Wars (GW1) is already a beautiful game in spite of it being launched more than 4 years ago. heck only a few *new* MMOs can say that they have better graphics than 4-year-old GW. they are using a new engine for GW2 that will enable jumping, swimming etc, and from the looks of it, everything is bigger than anything weve seen in GW1.

is tehre night/day? it looks like it when teh green fileds were shown.
and the castle of Divinity Coast looks like Minas Tirith, juz WOW!
still awestruck!

from Regina, CM for ANET

Just a few notes about the trailer:

  • It was played and recorded in real-time at true 1080p HD resolution, not scaled up artificially.
  • The animated lore part of the video is produced at 1080p resolution from the ground up. All assets are created at true 1080p resolution.
  • The animated, pre-rendered lore intro portion of the video was done completely in-house. This was not contracted out to a specialty studio that produces high-end pre-rendered videos. All of the illustrations, animation, editing, and rendering was done at ArenaNet.
  • The in-game part of the video is actual in-game footage. It was rendered in real-time in the game engine and recoded live using video capture hardware. Nothing was pre-rendered. All models, textures, and other assets are actual game play versions. They haven't been prettied up for marketing purposes.
  • Maps are works in progress, and may change to better fit game play.
  • The team is working hard to make the game even more beautiful for the full release.

I will give it a shot when it comes out.   GW is a good game for what it does and can be fun, so I suspect GW2 will be fun as well.   Just not a lot of staying power though.

Loved the trailer.

One thing I must say, though, is that I preferred the old logo. Apart from that, A+.

My one question is .... will we be able to explore Cantha and Elona? From some of the footage it would seem so but have they said anything.

I cant wait to experience Cantha in the GW2 engine.

Very cool. I enjoyed the different style of making the trailer. Most use CGI for their trailers but this uses concept art and in game footage. I have high hopes for this game, don't let your fans down ANet.

Although the game looks great and I'm positive A-net will make it a great succes, it wasn't what I had expected. In interviews they have stated it would look like a totally new game and instead it looks just like EoTN with small improvements. The landscapes looks amazing as allways, but I'm a bit dissapointed in the characters. Now they have rebuild the engine almost entirely from buttom up, and graphically they are left pretty much with the same result as before. I was hoping they could achieve pretty much the same level of character-detail as GW's sister Aion, but the characters in the trailer look rather bland. The same as GW1 with small improvements. I'm sure the armors will look great, I'm more thinking body types and facial details.

Of course you could also say that getting the same level of graphics as before but this time in a big open persistent world is also a nice achievement. I guess when your mind are left to wander on its own for a couple of years the result will be different from reality, naturally!

Was the Paladin using a 1hander Sword or 2hander Sword?
