EVE Online is expanding its horizons and reaching into new territory with the announcement of the EVE Online console FPS, DUST 514. But this game isn't just an offshoot based in the same universe, no, the game is strongly interconnected with the PC game as well! This translated interview with CCP Games' CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson reveals more!
Players in the MMOG will apparently be able to essentially hire DUST players to undertake missions on the ground in order to aid in gaining control of a planet. Planetary control itself will introduce new gameplay for EVE players as well:
The RTS elements of DUST 514 are also explained a bit further in this interview, with the ability to call in things like stationary weapons to the battlefield that will persist through the whole fight. Think of the Battlefield commander system. Will players from both the PC MMOG and DUST 514 finally get to meet when Walking in Stations comes to EVE? This seems to be a good possibility:

sounds absolutely amazing, and finally something that no one has tried before. |

This is a great idea.. I haven't been able to really appreciate EVE due to its high learning curve, but I would definitly try a FPS in the EVE universe. Hope CCP will pull this one off ! |

The concept sounds very cool. I can imagine myself sitting in front of my computer with EVE running, then my 360 sitting next to my computer monitor with DUST 514 running. Waiting for a skill to train up in EVE? Hop on DUST 514 and get into some fast-paced action. I really like the idea of two different online games (with very different gameplay) affecting the same game world. It sounds very, very interesting. I'll try it out when it's released. I would just like to know how the subscription services are going to work with a console game. I know FFXI pulled it off, but not with the greatest results. |

Ok, now the only thing missing from a theoretical feature list to complete the picture, is active teams/crews with members able to interact inside the ships (the one that STO will most likely not implement). Jim. |

Meh, console shooters suck. Slow, spammy, dumbed down and boring. The graphics are mediocre too. I would love to see a new EVE based game with full modern day PC graphics. G A M I N G O N L I N E S I N C E |1995

That's my opinion being someone who has played PC shooters since Doom/Quake, and someone who owns a 360. You don't have to agree with me. G A M I N G O N L I N E S I N C E |1995

I have a feeling this is going to be a mistake. Maybe it will be a huge success but do console players and eve players want to interact? Also, would an eve player buy and play the console game and enjoy it. Just kinda thrown by the fact they want it to be console fps and not a pc fps.
More people play console FPS I bet but I would think a console FPS and an eve mmo player are polar opposites. How many people have you heard say " hey man I wish Eve had console fps elements to the game". Imo this sounds fincially based and not best for eve online player based. |

I give a lot of credit to CCP for trying something new. If they can expand their player base AND please their current players than more power to them. |

CCP is a corporation and it has mouths to feed and dreams to fulfill, so yeah, it's about the money. I wouldn't say that the EVE MMO player is the polar opposite of the Dust514 FPS player, there's a huge overlap, because the player base of EVE Online is so darned diverse. There are enough EVE players that don't even want to interact with other EVE players, that hasn't hugely impacted the game so far. I have bought and enjoy Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, on the PC mind you. I resort to the console for exclusive titles like Mech Assault, Robotech, Panzer Dragoon Aorta, Ninety-nine-nights, and Chromehounds. I'm not a huge computer game player (although I have binges ;-) but I do enjoy both PC and console games. The reason I prefer a PC is simply because that thing is always on (when I'm at home and awake, it's on). What I do find scary is that sovereignity is apparently based on the results of a different game, that needs to be handled carefully by CCP. I'm also curious how you will be able to fight on the different worlds, I suspect jump clones will be an option.

Major +Kudos to CCP for innovation their bringing. All wires down to the execution of Dust, and I wish CCP the best of luck to pull it off. It really makes me wonder what is the foundation/ultamatium objective is for the Dust 514 game itself. Well we wont' get too much big splur of information about it until a month(Fanfest).Unless we're lucky with more unraveling interviews.Til then i wonder how many pages these threads will go about it lol.

So yeah, you can get better quality video if you spend ten times as much on a computer, but to compare PCs to Consoles is comparing an item with a cost of $250-$6000 to an item that costs ~$300. I don't exactly know what kind of video card and processor you'll need to get better quality video, but expect to pay more for it than a console. On the other hand, the power of a PC is it's scaleability. |

I still don't see why they won't release it on a platform that has an already established player base there. Doesn't make sense. |

On a cost thing i agree,,, kinda The thing i hate is that fact that u pay more for the said game on the console, so the £10 (not sure on $ price) a game u spend more on a Xbox/PS3 game does add up in the long run, so you pay more to get set up but save later ,,, will it be a saving in the long run most like no as another upgrade will be needed but you do get better quality graphics. But i think as most will agree CCP have dropped a Bollock by not releasing this on the PC .... if the case is as we all think |

And on edit, I should also add that it still seems difficult to achieve parity between consoles and PCs within a cross-platform FPS. |

We are about due for the next generation of consoles. This would be more in line for the PS4/X-Box3/Wii2 type crowd - or whatever consoles come out next. Then again, the PS and PS2 both lasted around 10-11 years. And yes, CCP tapped those Mac/Linux users as well. Tapping the console market makes sense, and it is ripe to leave all the folks that like to buy into nefarious thoughts in a total state of moody glee. |

I've always said that SWG basically should have been a combination of EVE and Planetside, instead of the pile of garbage it turned out to be. I think they stole my idea!!! ____________________________________________ |
