Player accomplishment is relative to the chance of meaningful consequences in the event you loose. |
I for one was expecting that Aions video requirements would be pretty high (relativly speaking). i was plesantly surprised that my framerate (with everything maxed at 1680x1050) was higher than I expected. 70-150 when PvE'ing with a few people around and 40-80 in cities with 15-25 people in veiw doing things. Never did mass PvP.... I use an intel C2D 3.0ghz (Wolfdale, no OC) and a Nvidia 8800gts 512 21680x1050 (duel boot Vista64 and XP32, though I played under Vista) with 4gb ram on a 6mb broadband connection.
I have to say that I'm disapointed that Aion din't look to the future and use an engine that is DX 10 capable, but I'm certain that it's as much Microsofts fault as it is anyone else's. The Crytek engine is nice and maybe it can be ported to DX10 in the future....? So the question is, was Aion playable for you with the GFX maxed out? Whatever your response to the poll, listing your CPU, resoultion, Vid card type and manufactuer, OS and ram in a follow-up post would be helpful.
PS, I know it's too much to hope for, but I'm really looking for info about Aion's palyability. I'm hoping this dosen't turn into an ATI vs Nvida, AMD vs Intel flame thread.
Thanks in advance

Got the similar frame rates as OP Not been in the Abyss so cannot speak for pvp fps 16gb Broadband Intel Quad 2.4 Ghz 4gb ram Vista 32 home premium SP2 Nvidia Geforce 9800GT 512mb Running at max settings 1280x1024 |

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz Highest settings: - All sliders up on max
In Verteron Citadel i was running it around 30-70 FPS, looking into the sky while in the city it jumped to 110-120 FPS... This is still lower than i expected, i expected a little more stable fps, maybe 50-70, or 50-80 would be nice.. Can it be that i only have 4GB of ram??? i mean, Vista is eating up my ram.. :( I have a clock showing cpu usage and physical memory usage in %.. and physical memory is like 96% when i play lol.. maybe i should get 4GB more, so it doesnt get maxed out like that :P Edit: i only tested once inside Verteron citadel, not outside the city, or in Abyss. |

You listed two resolutions for your 8800GTS. Were you maxed at 1680 or 2560?
Aion's graphics requirements aren't cutting edge specifically so it's playable by a larger margin of people. Part of Warcrafts success is due to it being playable on a casual computer. Conan on the other hand was cutting edge and look where it got them: a whole lot of crashed cursing gamers.
It seems to be the norm with recent titles to scale back performance to match a computer that's 2 years old. That's about right for your 8800GTS and the 1680x1050 resolution. That way some of the Xbox boys can blow the dust off their computer and load up an MMO. ---- My FPS? Average of 170 - 180 in the Abyss. Average of 108-148 in and around towns / people. It dropped below 30FPS once or twice during the live events, having 75+ people on screen(all casting shadows).
I play at 2560x1600 30" Samsung 305T LCD LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa

hi there im not a reference since i've got a killer computeur But i've try with many setup, And eveything still fine, and i love this, this is a proff that Aion texturing and modeling is well done , and there so few compagny who did a well job for a lunch game. We all know. You need to think later you will be 40 into a pvp area ... and what making Aion good looking isnt really the engine, it the texturing job and art style. But I would always regret the fact they remove the element system, from the game as a big error, they removed idea from the developpement to lunch the game in time. |

My system isnt great, will have to upgrade sometime. I dont play at Max GFX but at about 80% on all sliders apart from shadows set to low and water set to 50%. I get 80-100 fps away from major cities/towns and 30-50 fps in cities with a lot of other players. I havent tried abyss yet. Vista 32 bit 3 GB RAM Intel Core 2 6400 @ 2.13 ghz Ati Radeon HD4670 512mb O/C Res 1440x900 widescreen

since previous posts are on intels.
mine is amd system. amd phenom II x4 810 (oced to 3.25ghz@ 1.336vcore) MSI 790fx GD-70 mobo 4GB ocz nvidia sli edition 2x2gb kit. ( running 1333mhz 7-7-7-20) wd caviar black 1tb palit hd4870 sonic dual edition samsung 2233sw 22inch widescreen (1920x1080 res) corsair hx520 psu onboard sound (frames rates might be better if i get discrete card) windows vista x64 home premium
On the above system, max settings (ati catalyst control settings are set to max quality) im getting anywhere between 90-140fps while pve'ing 50-70fps at crowded areas where theres lotsa toons. never tried abyss or mass pvping cuz i have not reached that lvl yet. so far i tink my system performs as expected. |

Res- 1280x1024 Cpu- AMD BE phenom 2 720 triple core, OC at 3.2 ghz memory- 4g ddr3 1333mhz OS- Windows 7 64 G card- ATI 4870 1g Frame rate avg out of pandemonium/city - 75-120 in city- 50-80 This is with anti alias lvl at x4 only because I see a huge frame rate difference and barely any graphic difference in game, and a game playing completly smooth is important to me. I havent done abyss yet but I have tested out the fixed fps setting and it rarely drops under 100 fps even in city so when big mass pvp starts if i get even the slightest lag due to my graphic settings i'll just switch to that, its great because it doesnt look that bad and its a one buttone touch to go back to your exact settings.

Aion is very optimized...because of the Dx9 Cry Engine 1 .... while Cry Engine 2 is responsible of dx10. they choosed to use dx9 because there are people who can't afford to upgrade the pc components every 1-2 year . Good Job Nc ! |

Was getting anywhere from 90-120 most of the time. During the events it was more aroun 55-60. The problem for me isnt fps but lag and damn rubberbanding. Part of the reason I canceled my preorder was the lag and rubberbanding never got any better for me at least. Only game other than this I had performance problems with was AoC and didnt make it out of beta there either. |

On another note, i am surprised not 1 Nvidia user was expecting more :P Dont get me wrong, i have ATI, but i wish i had Nvidia... This is not a flame bait, just wondering.. but then again, outcome of poll, depends on every individuals expectations aye. Which makes it kinda useless :P Anyway, nice thread, i like looking at others spec and compare, will do more FPS testing when open beta comes along or in head start. |

Originally posted by ogcopcka I think were close to DX cards becoming the standard. Since the release of the 8000 series Nvidia cards and the 24xx and 4000 series ATI's most are capable of DX10. I wonder if the game can ever be ported to the Cry2 engine? The implementation of DX9 in Aion is one of the best I have seen, but I personally don't caree for the "fairy" look. The cities are decent, but many areas have too much spalshing of pinks and purples for my taste, Having said that i won't let that stop me from having fun if Aion turns out to be a good game. The GFX in Farcry were great, though I still think the colors were a bit over saturated. The lush enviorments are what make the engine really stand out.

I reached a point where my card is overkill for this game, the processor is holding me back due to poor i7 optimization at the moment, so Im getting less FPS than expected. Still, I havent lagged once when things go massive, though. |

I'm running a desktop with these specs: OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 4000+ 2.1 ghz GPU: nVidia Geforce 9500 GT 512 mb RAM: 4 gb 800 mhz Even with all that with my resolution on 1920x1080, I was running and average of 30 to 60 fps. 30 fps in cities with a lot of activity and 60 fps out in the wild. Whats funny is with The Chronicles of Spellborn ( A crappier looking game), I only average 15 to 30 fps. That tells me that Aion has been properly optimized for good performance on most computers. Too bad I didn't care for the Aion storyline or I might have bought the game, but I gotta give credit where credit is due though. When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there! |

The game ran better than I expected on my rig. I had everything at max, X8 AA @ 1440x900. I wasn't expecting to get as good as framerates with the AA and I was thinking Id have to tone it down to get good framerates. I actually get better FR in Aion than I did in WoW and I had everything maxed with X4 AA in WoW and Aion just looks so much freakin better than WoW. My rig is: Intel E9400 OC @ 3.25ghz ATI 4850 512mb 4 Gigs of G. Skills ram Running In XP 32bit though :( 80 Gig Raptor HHD I never did get to do PvP, I never made it that far. I don't really game much on the weekends so I really had time to play Aion as much as Id like to.

Been beta testing it on my 8800 GT NVIDIA and runs smooth as a babies arse.. with almost everything on maximum.

Everything ran incredibly smooth, wasn't really expecting such good performance tbh.

Ran very smooth on my 9800 GT at everything maxed out. Until my card died =(. Luckily EVGA is sending me a new one in time for Open Beta! Long Ago - Dark Age of Camelot, Guild Wars |
