I  was kind of leery playing the game, because you don't hearr many good things about it.  But i've been having a blast.  The beginning quests are fun, the cardgame style diplomacy, and one of the best crafting systems iv'e played around with.  

There are a couple downsides, datated graphics and feel, but it doesn't really detract.  I hope they keep updating the game, cause i was seeing a goodly number on noob isle with me.

Glad you are enjoying it.  Are you able to bump up the graphics and still get good fps?  There is a really big difference between balanced settings and cranking everything up in Ultra.

Started playing agin myself 3 days ago.  They really clean'd it up. hate to give SoE any kind of credit after what they did to SWG but so far game has been a ton of fun.  I think there crafting is the best in a game yet.  I dont know what ya mean by the dated graphics?  If anything i think there the most realistic as far as there armors and weapon go.  

My negative would be on my alienware area 51 where i can get close to 100fps in other games i only get aroind 50-60 here.

well i get 30 fps with most on ultra , on a 24 inch screen got to be seen to be believed

 To all the people reading this thread that are contemplating giving this game a go, do it!

I baught this game on release, played for a month and was so annoyed with various different things hadnt played since.  I've played EQ2, WoW & EVE in the mean time while this game gathered dust on the shelf and was bored of all.  I thought what the hell, give it a go and I was so, so suprised with how the game is now.  It is a truely immersive mmo now with the years of refinement.  The players are so friendly and helpful and there is a real community around the game.  

The game may not have the population of the current top titles, as a result there is a real sence of adventure in the wilderness. 

Try it, try it, try it!  

Bought the game over a year ago and would only play it for a week or so due to the issues.  Came back two weeks ago and great googley moogley what a difference!  Having a blast, Isle of Dawn rocks and following Hero quests helped me become more familiar with Thestra...can't wait to see the rest of Telon.  Crafting is engaging, diplomacy is refreshing, and adventruing is loads of fun.

I can't agree with the comment about 'dated graphics'.  This game is beautiful, it is definitely on the better side of the curve concerning graphic and mechanics/physics quality.  Playing a cleric, combat is awesome and armor/weapon sets look great.

BTW, Vanguard community is mature and great!  Great game, job well done by the Vanguard developers for turning this around!  Thanks to MMORPG as well, if I had not read recent news, ratings and posts about this game I might not have returned.  If you have this game and left due to issues, come back and be surprised.

I can't look past the animations of this game.  Watch a human in plate run and I puke.  Draw your weapon and ....ooops all of a sudden its in your hand ...

Im sorry but this is 2009.  If a game really wanted to stay updated and draw in new ppl... then Vanguard surely has no idea how... 

BTW.. there is a reason why that HD movie that supposedly is to show good graphics has a caster running around in it.   Other animations just look HORRIBLE !!!

I will say, Vanguard has the best crafting system by FAAARRR. And the Buildings, structures and landscape all look great, however, in regards to graphics, you simply can not get past how bad cloth is rendered in this game
(consider how well SOE does cloth in EQ2, theres no excuse for it) and the charactor animations fairly subpar (minus a few nice combat ones they did do well). However, when your cloak looks like cardboard... sorry thats kind of a basic thing that SOE should have fixed long ago.

and in regards to animations, try having your horse rear up and watch your charactor... thats just plain sad looking.

But again, the crafting system in this game always gets me close (close but not quite) to resubbing.

To each his own, graphics look great to me...coming from LOTRO, DDO, WOW, WAR and AoC.  They each have their quirks, but I'd say using horrible is a bit over the top.  I'm running at highest settings with no issue on Win 7 to boot.  The game as a whole is good and captures my attention and imagination.

Just read your posts regarding Runes of Magic and Atlantica...can't believe you would troll Vanguard graphics and tout Runes of Magic graphics...Vanguard is a class A production while RoM is a class B production.  Each has their place and pros/cons, but don't call one game's graphics horrible then on the flip side tout another game's graphics that does not come close to any subscription based game within the past five years.  Troll elsewhere.

Getting a new VGclient.ini doesn't make sense to me.  Using one of the custom VGclient that people have tweaked does make sense for improving performance.  They can usually be found in the Performance forum on the VG boards.  Maybe that is what Dreamion meant.

With regard to the plate graphic comments... it's one thing to comment on the gear graphics for lower level characters on IoD.  It's a whole other thing to see the graphics of gear at the higher level and how players look.  With the ability to cusomize your gear coupled with the massive options around character appearance, everyone looks different and are recognizable just by looks.

I'd say the swimming animations are by far the worst.  Jumping and running are pretty lackluster.  But many of the combat animations are excellent and just plain fun to watching.  Casters do not have a whole lot of variety with their animations but the melee class animations are exceptionally well done.  I also like the crafting and diplomacy animations.
