Today at the Game Developer's Conference in Cologne, Germany, CCP pulled the curtain off a an FPS that has been in development by the company's Shanghai office for three years. The game will combine FPS and RTS elements, and is set on the planets of EVE Online.

The press release goes on to say that the game, which is being developed for the current generation of consoles, will "interact directly with EVE Online. What that means exactly, is still unknown.

CCP promises more details at their upcoming Fanfest on October 1st, 2009.

Cologne, GERMANY, Game Developers Conference Europe – August 18, 2009 – CCP today revealed DUST 514™, a console-based hybrid MMO/FPS set within the EVE universe. The announcement, which included a video featuring gameplay footage, was made during a keynote address by CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Petursson at the Game Developers Conference in Cologne, Germany.

DUST 514, featuring first-person shooter and RTS-style gameplay, will interact directly with EVE Online, CCP’s critically acclaimed flagship MMO. This interplay between the two games opens the EVE universe to console gamers and gives them a chance to become part of one of the most massive cooperative play and social experiences ever.

“We launched EVE Online in 2003 and have experienced steady annual growth– a fact we appreciate as a rarity in the world of MMOs, especially given the global economy of the past year,” said Petursson. “Our success with EVE Online has afforded us the highest caliber global design and production talent in gaming. With a team of the best minds in the industry, we conceived an ambitious new take on virtual world development with DUST 514.”

The primary gameplay of DUST 514 features brutal ground combat that takes place on the surface of planets from EVE, delivering the visceral, adrenaline-fueled experience of futuristic firefights. Developed for the current generation of consoles, DUST 514 combines equal parts battlefield reflexes and strategic planning, giving commanders and ground infantry real-time configurable weapons and modular vehicles to manage dynamic battlefield conditions.

Now entering its third year of production, DUST 514 is the primary development focus of CCP’s Shanghai studio. The team includes veteran designers of EVE Online and experienced talent from various sectors of the video game industry.

“Since opening our Shanghai studio, we have invested in building a team that wants to push the envelope in gaming and be pioneers in the industry,” said Kjartan Pierre Emilsson, Managing Director of CCP Shanghai. “Having led the design and development efforts of the project from start to finish, our studio is honored to call DUST 514 our first title release.”

Pretty sick of these MMO companies and even other companies (Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare 2) catering to console when they begin on PC.

Unfortunately these greedy people are doing this because DLC on XBL makes a ton more money than PC.

Pretty much makes sense. Console market is far more suitable for FPS games.

Awesome, awesome, awesome.  Very innovative idea that could have tons of possibilities in expanding the EVE universe.

Wow over reaction much?  This is a separate game than EVE.  You don't have to play it.  It is a game that is meant for consoles, and FPS's on consoles are very good.  There are basically no hacks, and incredibly fun to play once you get good.

Why does this piss you off so bad?  You think that the company owes something to you to make every game they release for the rest of eternity on PC with a 100% focus on what Lumster wants?  Give me a break.

I am just imagining the console crowd joining the ingame chat channels of EVE Online.

Oh god! And I thought it couldn't get any worse.

When www met dot , they then stumbled upon Secret Society , wich happened to be a Guild , wich in turn told dot about the net .

That won't happen haha.  Maybe one day down the road...  The games will be much more seperate than that i'm sure.

It is true that they do not owe me anything.......so what? Can't I be pissed about the fact that they sold out?

I doubt that most EvE fans have a next generation console, so why only consoles? Only for the money, sure they are a company but some companies even tho they want max profits do something nice for their fanbase once in a while.

If you cannot see just how much of a kick in the face of EvE fans this is then you are just as much a tool as CCP.

Only for the money?  WTH?  Releasing for PC as well would be a wider audience thus giving them more money.  They didn't sell out.  They made a design choice, and they wanted to make a FPS on consoles that was an MMO that tied in with EVE.  That isn't selling out it is being creative with your own IP.  Something they have full rights to do.  They aren't pusing anything on you.

4players.de has talked to Petursson after the show, asking why there will be no PC-Version. Petursson smiled and stated, that he cannot comment on it right now. The only thing he can say at the moment is that there will be ca console version.

So with any luck it's going to be a timed exclusive :)

I don't know any PC gamer who thinks that console only games are a great idea, seriously.

If it is for just the consoles they are personally attacking their PC player base. Microsoft has made it pretty easy to port PC games to the Xbox 360, it is one of the reasons developers like Microsoft so much. Making the PS3 version will be harder than doing a duo Xbox 360 and PC version together. So I imagine there will be a PC version, there is always a PC version because Microsoft makes it so easy to do 2 platforms at once. The only other reason I could think of not making a PC version is so Console users don't get spanked by a mouse and keyboard user, unless they separate the consoles from the PC's.

oh on a note, anyone who thinks FPS are better on a console isn't a real gamer.

Sounds like a pretty good idea. Will have to wait until more information becomes available.

It isn't a personal attack.  I am not going to argue it with you though if you take it personally then go for it.  There could be more than meets the eye with this as some people have already questioned the guy and he gave them interesting smiles.  People like Lumster are just way out of line, but whatever.

Oh on a note, anyong who thinks that FPS aren't good on a console isn't a real gamer.  A real gamer is someone who can smoke fools on PC and Console since they are two completely different skillsets outside of map knowledge.
