Yep, I'm in game now.. I saw this over on the official forums, thought I'd post it to help anyone else out. After deleting my earlier installs completely and following the instructions I had 71MB left to patch.. took 10 minutes. :)

Ok to much dismay and typical mmo release fashion.. champions online launch was far from flawless.. anyone who downloaded the fileplanet pre release before, you're slightly luckier then anyone who didnt.

Basically 2 weeks ago they released a pre launch was about 1.8gb to download and unlocked today, today they sent another prerelease version to fileplanet which is 1.9gb to download and was uploaded and hosted pretty much 5min before the game went live for open beta... if u did download the old version, you need to download the new version too, if u didnt download the old version, u have to download both versions to get the game to work with minimal frustration.

basically you have to install the old version first, then run the launcher, cancel it straight away and go into your game folder. in the folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online\Live

or wherever you installed it to, you will see a heap of .hogg files, you need to cut these and paste them in the directory below overwritting the old files

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online\Live\piggs

you will notice not all of the files will be overwritten (as in, they may have been left out of the release, who knows it's a mix up either way i'm guessing) and if you attempt to patch now, there is another 985mb waiting for you. at this point what you need todo is install the newer version of the beta client over the already installed game

go back into the

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online\Live

folder and you will see those .hogg files in there again, cut and paste them into the same folder as before overwritting whatever isnt already there and then you should be good to start the patcher and find you only have to patch about 78mb which ill pause at regular intervals causing you to close and reopen the client untill it's completely updates and playable

I am downloading the newer client as well in hopes I get the same result you did.  Anyone else out there tried this yet with any success?

i have done this but once closing the patcher it stays at the same amount of mb so i have to leave it open and i need to get to 35mb this will be one hard thing to do but yeah it does work the best

I followed your instructions and I got the 78 MB patch.  30 MB left to go.

I've been stuck on 2% patched (19mb/965mb) for about 45 minutes, so I think "fixed" might be too strong of a word.

I hope this says good things about people not giving up. If people were throwing in the towel, then it stands to reason that the download rate might pick up, right?

Edit: Doh... I posted this on the wrong thread... On a more relevant note, I wasn't able to get my patch down to any smaller than 985, even with the new client . Must be doing something wrong...

made it to only needing 35mb's needed then i get stuck at 38.3% percent everytime so i close it re-open it and i am back at 35mb's needed so no this did not fix it for me

I saw this earlier on the main forum boards, couldnt find it again, thanks for posting this, got it down to 74 mb and hoping it finally works.

I got to 86% and now its stalled.. it didn't stop and thus I can't start it again.. this has been a nightmare...

I can't get the last 35MB to download. The installer completely stalls / gets an error message. It won't update shaderCache.hogg and gameclient.exe ... last 2 files needed.

Launch? Did I miss a few weeks?  Launch is September 1st since when has a Beta roll out ever gone smoothly...*beats Cryptic Devs with a stick for the torture with this download repeatedly*   If you previously tried to install with the old fileplanet client your lucky you only have 50 - 100 megs to download the rest of us poor souls are still trying...*beats the patcher*

If this was Launch I'd be far madder...atleast for Beta it was expected like the last two games I open Beta tested that I wouldn't get to play the first day.

cheersm8 it works 74 mb. Just remeber when you copy (the installer 2) files make sure the ones you copy over are not 64kb in size but the larger version.

It got stuck at 99.6% for me... still it's the closest I've gotten I guess...

hmmm not working for me. After I install the second client the hogg files are not in the live folder any more.

Not sure why mine started to work. ALl of a sudden I kept getting server error messages while patching and when it happened, each reset Id have a little more done tell i finished and it worked. Totally WEIRD considering I spent hours before I got the server disconnect errors. They turned out to be a blessing hehe. 

I just got done playing the game for a bit, looks pretty sweet, can't wait until tomorrow when I have more time.  Here is what worked for me and many people on the Champions Online Official Forums.

1) Install the newest client from Fileplanet

2) Install OB Fix immediately after you install the client

3) Download the "exes.hogg" file from MegaUpload, someone in the Official Champions Forums posted this and others said it worked so I tried it and it did. It appears that most people are hanging up on the GameClient.exe file even after the OB Fix. To see if this is the case with you press "x" while the patcher is running and you can see what it is hanging up on. If that's the file download it.

4) Copy the file to "C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online\Live\piggs" folder

5) Re-start the Patcher

6) Voila! You have a "PLAY" button and for me it actually worked and I connected to the servers and played for a bit.

its not passing the retreving player list for me...sigh
