eve online only has one server. And the side depends on what you want your character to specialize in. Caldari is the easiest, but i have my char trained to use any races ships up to and including battleships. |

pretty sure there are 5 servers.. tranquility being the main one.. Singularity being the test server and 1 more of each of those for in china and an internal testing server I think.. |

Guys I didn't know Eve was only had one server either when I downloaded the trail, the 1st time... that was what like 3 years ago. So don't go too hard on this guy. |

If you go by that defintion, there are over NINE THOUSAND servers, since most people at ccp use their own testing servers on their workstations.. Of any importance for us is only Tranquility, and for people who like to report bugs, Singularity and sometimes Multiplicity. You won't have interest in servers like Serenity or Unicorn.. |

C'mon guys its always a good thing to have new interest in the game. We all found out on our own time when EVE was a one-server game with no factions, but 4 races. I download and try games too before reading much about them. I have my reasons for doing so. It appears he may do the same... so what? I like to discover all features and background in-game because it feels like I spoiled it if I read about it on a forum or in a walk-through. So ya, when I opened the game the first time and saw Server: Tranquilitiy - 30,000 players... I was PUMPED. |

Unless you live in China it may as well not exist. Nobody but the chinese can play on it and most of them work around China's internet policies via proxies and play on tranquility anyway. ============================ Bottom line: OP: There is only 1 server in EVE :) So no worries there. As to what "side" to choose ? :) This isn't like WOW... there are 4 starting 'races' (all human) whom are involved in a hot cold war with one another. Amarr: Good pvp ships but really don't shine till more advanced skills. PVE is ok but not a lot of choices for solid PVE ships. Gallente: Good pvp ships, fairly easy to skill into. Very PVE ships as well. Great race to start out in. Minmatar: Very good PVP ships but extremely hard to skill for and harder to learn to fly properly. Minmatar is widely regarded as a race that has good PVP ability but requires the most time to train for due to it's mixed weapons systems on most ships and the fact that the ships are not suited for 1 type of tank or another so if you fly minmatar you need to have good shield and good armor tanking skills in order to get use out of all their ships. I don't recommend it as a starting race though many do anyway (for the challenge, or just because they didn't know any better). Caldari: Excellent PVE race. Missile skills don't take a lot of training to get good enough to handle any mission/ratting and shield tanking is also fairly fast to get to a level that can handle up to level 4 missions fairly easily. Missiles also require the least 'tactical' knowledge to use of all the wapons systems. For PVP Caldari are widely regarded as the worst PVP race (though they do have some very standout fleet support ships).
Hope this helps. Bottom line: You can START as any race and train any other race's ships so start however you want to start the game then cross train to whatever you want to be when you grow up. If you like a mix of PVE and PVP right away I recommend Gallente... if you want pure PVP right away I lean towards Amarr. If you want PVE only for a while I recommend Caldari. Any way you slice it you can eventually train to be anything you like. |
