I was in the warhammer beta and that felt F2P. Mobs bugged out after knockbacks, terrible animations, blurred textures everywhere in your gear, lag as soon as you placed 20 people together...Aion is a blessing compared to that. |

The problem is you only played until the 11th level. The game becomes so much more interesting and fun after that level. |

It was definitely overhypes but what else is new? Seems to be a common trend any more for the community, generally speaking, to get over excited or jump the gun whenever a new title comes along. I think the graphics are rather impressive myself. They don't look anything like f2p games I've seen and played. The combat is rather simplistic. I wouldn't go as far as saying its tedious but it certainly isn't anything to brag about. It is rather linear. I don't think it plays like a f2p game. I'm torn on the game myself. I still can't decide if I like it enough to purchase it or if I may just take a pass. One thing I will say is due to how linear it is I can't fathom making more than one or two characters...ever. Its also way too solo oriented and again far as I can tell its another game devoid of any global channels which I really hate because even if I'm doing solo content I like to converse with others or get a feel for what's ahead. Wtf is it with a lot of these newer games not having any type of global chat channels? |

I think it was hyped pretty much like AoC or WAR were. Officially by Aion team and NCsoft probably even less. This is just the norm in the industry. Anyone who goes with the pre-release hype deserves whats coming. The safe bet is to wait for few weeks at least to see the official reviews from major game magazines and sites. |

The real problem here is that Aion, ultimately, is a Korean grinder - although (imo) a beautifully polished one at that. To me, this isn't a WoW 1.5 more like Lineage 2.5 (with lots of added fluff and slightly more accessibility). I don't think there's any shame acknowledging the game as such, so its hardly any surprise that a lot of folk on this site are calling the game out, so to speak. For me, the naysayers are just preaching to the choir. AION = the best grinder on the market. Afterall, NCsoft stated themselves many times that they were'nt reinventing the wheel.

The Bad Too many fedex quests, brings nothing new to the mmo genre as far as being innovative, pvp focused mmos fail in NA/EU regions, to follow the story you have to read a wall of text (WoW style), combat is boring, from 1-20 I think I killed 15 different species of slinks (sick of slinks). After WoW and Lotro you would think we would get something different. The Good: Well polished and the music was pretty good. |
