www.massively.com/2009/08/11/star-wars-the-old-republic-to-launch-in-october-2010/ Who knows... but of course just a rumor so far. |

meh, same thing over here |

considering the game has been in development for ~4years, it would suck if we all have to wait another year. |

The French HA! That's a good one, had to check and see if it was April 1st after reading that part. |

You wouldn't announce the game in 2008 if you wern't gonna release it in 2010. |

I got a bullet with your email address on it. Don't make me hit send. |
I will not buy or have faith in this game if it is released this year. if WoW was your first MMO i don't feel you have an opinion here. |
Originally posted by aleos Well it's been in development since 2005, I think they intended for it to launch this year back then, but yeah, they need to just take their time with it and get everything right. |

Lol, why should we believe the French have an inside source? |

If SW:ToR was to be released this year it would be a very playable game. This is Bioware we are talking about, they don't announce their games till they are for the most part done. Seeing how this game has been in the works since 2005 the game should be close to done, but looking at past bioware games we are looking at maybe in a long shot a Xmas release. My bet is first Q1 2010. Going on the past game releases and from the time they announced to when the games came out. |

It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta gum. |
I could easily see 10/10 being their goal date, putting it to be officially released spring/summer 2011 like more and more people think it will be. There will be unforseen problems they run into, and it being Bioware they will take the time to fix them. I'm sure the game will have some bugs to begin with, what game doesn't, but I can guarantee this will be the smoothest launch since WoW. |

Hard to say., 2009 is coming rapidly to a close and we got Biowares dragon-age confimed for a winter release this year. So they might not want to release two games at once. But to wait another full year... that would seem to be a long time and in MMO development that is risky. The engine looks okay now, but in a years time? As far as I know (which isn't a lot) there are no other major MMO's due to launch this year (no, aoin does not count). Next year might be different. On the other hand, the advertising seems a bit off. If they have another full year of comics to release then they could make just qas much money selling it bound (would be aphone-book by then) as selling the game. On the other hand, the timeline has only 3 entries so far... Puzzling. Part of me is saying that this year is unlikely. That releasing a MMO/RPG in spring-summer if foolish (try your current MMO, isn't summer always the slowest time) and that waiting a full year seems to be a bit to long. Also, I think peoples idea of a BETA is getitng a bit outdated. We have had LOTS of games with endless Beta's followed by buggy launches. A lot of free people playing is barely worth anything except as a stress test and using potential customers as testers is a goodway to piss them off. Futher more, SWTOR is a STORY game. Not a grind game. If a beta player already saw all the story, why should he pay for the game to do it again? A: By the comic release schedule, this year. B: By the competition, this year. C: Because of dragon-age. Not this winter. D: Because next year is a year away, not next year. E: For classic beta that doesn't fix any bugs. Next year. F: Because beta sucks in story games. This year. G: Lack of announced races, classes, planets etc etc. Next year. H: because I want to. this year. MMO's are like orgasms. |

hmm, this is BioWare/EA we're talking about here, just saying. ...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought. |

my reply to all this is amazon already has a preorder set up with release date not yet disclosed on it, I'd not be shocked if this came out Q1 of 2010. Just sayin, seems a little odd they would have a preorder for something almost a full year off. |

These are not the rumours you are looking for. *waves hand* |

October 2010 seems a little soon. I doubt, even if they're targeting it, that they'll make it. Saerain Tested: 53 titles | Saerain Approved: EVE, VG, LotRO, AoC, SB |

Give it time. Next years release will probably piggyback the release of FFXIV and more time is better, as usually amount of available information is a good indicator of release (at least with large developers, we can hope). Also, isn't lucas arts having a heck of a time still finishing up all the voice acting they want implemented? I dunno, either way if it came out this year - it would most likely be hurt by Q1 titles coming about next year - always better to come later & sweep up folks disappointed with other stuff. I just hope D3 doesnt come sneaking about anytime soon...there isnt enough time in a day, lol |

That's a cute idea but wrong. Bioware announced Dragon Age over 5 years ago. So they do occasionally announce games that are far from complete. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/31780
As for TOR if it launched this year it would be an incomplete mess. Q3 2010 is the earliest we're going to see it with the very real possibility that it'll be delayed until Q1 2011.

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. They've made a point on saying they don't want to rush this. You only got one shot at launch, better make it a good one. |

I will be disapointed if this hits any later then christmas of 2010. 3 huge companies are working on this game, 2 of which have been there form the start. There is no reason that they could not get this out in 5 years. Now I highly doubt this will hit this fall because of dragon age, early 2010 is unlikely also due to mass effect 2. Now I could see it hitting Q2. That way Bioware could just have one long stretch of possiblely controlling the rpg market. Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time. If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day. AMD 4800 2.4ghz-3GB RAM 533mhz-EVGA 9500GT 512mb-320gb HD |

the problem most people are missing here is the mmo devision of bioware and the rpg devision of bioware are seperate. Not the same people making the games, it's like a few years back when you had back to back splinter cells because different devisions of Ubisoft were making the games. Masseffect 2 comes out in january, and dragonage is in christmass only because of a push back over a bug, it was sloted to release months ago. |
