Can't say til I play the game. I'm thinking it won't be worth it for me though.

Interesting post. You're bio says you play EVE Online as well as myself. EVE has MT in a way since you can buy isk from another player. Hard to imagine this being any worst than that. perhaps like most posters you're knee jerking about the MT thing

Now if you mean you're not gonna buy a lifetime sub cause you fear what the item mall will have in store then I feel ya that is solid logic and good reasoning and more consistent with the way I've seen you post

I think it will be worth it.  I played CoX for 4 years and really enjoyed it.  This game has a lot more to offer than CoX.  Plus, you get the extra 8 slots, costume sets, and an STO beta invite.  If extra slots costs 5 bucks, that's 40 bucks right there (completely hypothetical, I know)  I was thinking of going the 6 month route, though.  It saves about 5 bucks a month over the standard rate.

If it was that easy, everyone would do it.

Not because lifetime subscription would not be fine option. How ever, this game isn't worth of it. I smell that this games developers motivation is more like money making, than good game for customers. I don't know what happen between CoX and CO, but something is changed in the company. Example this microtransaction system (Cash shops).

You’re comparing apples to Sherman tanks. Two different games and two different distributors. Not saying this game is worth it or not, but your comparing the wrong things. However, every company is in it for the cash. They don’t care for you in anyway form or fashion and that goes for all companies. They do care about your cash however.

I voted yes. But if the game changes, so will my opinion.

Worth it for me. The only game where I cancelled within a year was WoW. Also I rather enjoyed CoX, and spent plenty more than $200 on sub costs for that game even though I cancelled and resubscribed a few times.

And the idea of not having to worry about sub fees is appealing to me. Like how I have lifetime with LotRO, I recently reinstalled it to play it again and still enjoy the game greatly, but if I didnt have lifetime sub I wouldnt even bother. It just makes it so if I feel like playing I can just play it without having to resub, or bother cancelling if I haven't played it for some time.

I have my doubts with Cryptic, but I think it's a safe bet that this game will last long enough to make a lifetime subscription worth it.

I don't play Eve anymore, need to update the signature, but buying ISK from other players and being able to buy in game items directly from the developer are two different things. While I don't really like the idea of buying ISK it happens in most games anyways and it's hard to avoid. Having items only available in an item is an absolutely killer for me. It's a slippery slope where the items may start off as only fluff, but if I'm paying a subs I should be able to get those in game by in game means. If greed can push them as far as to charge a sub and then charge for fluff items that should be included in that sub, who's to say they won't go further and include good gear with it?

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

So sad that so far over 38% of the vote said yes. Please don't drink the Bill Roper kool-aid; look what happened to all the poor Hellgate: London lifetime-subscribers.

The difference is that Hellgate sucked.  Has nothing to do w/ the lifetime subs.  It was also a diff model which had free to play & sub.  The main reason they had to declare bancrupcy.

CO's NDA is still in effect just a few weeks before launch - that in itself doesn't exactly scream "CO doesn't suck".

Hell no this game isn't worth the "pay before you play" lifetime fee.

Even in beta there is a metric shit ton of unanswered quesions about it. And just from my experience in the game, I wouldn't even pay $50 for the box at this point. Shit, I wouldn't be willing to pay a sub for this game, period.

Looks to me like we're going to see yet another summer of buggy, unpolished releases.

Refuse to lose.

Simply - NO

Perhaps only if you were active COH subscriber for 2 years running, and you want 2 more years of sameish (and perhaps not even better)

I think doing the 6 month deal is a much better idea personally unless you have extra money to throw around.

The game is quite awesome, it's basically CoX with vast improvements and certainly worth paying for.

Though I'm not sure how well it (CO) will do once DC Universe comes out.

I do admit that I haven't buy the lifetime subscription for LOTRO, that why this time I will seriously thinking about buying a lifetime for CO.  CO looks like a promising game and worth to spend the time on them, especially Cryptic knows what they are doing.

as for LOTRO, I still regret and struggling between buying the subscription or not after many months of subscription lol!!  I hope they will again having a discount on their lifetime subscription fee !!!

The game hooked me right away. $200 is definitely worth a lifetime sub for me. Most of the MMOs I've played over the years would have saved me lots of money if they had a similar deal.

Insert random misqoute here

I will never go back to SOE for any game, whatever game it is and many feel the same way.

No game is worth paying more than the retail price for. Not today. Not with all the great games out and coming soon that are free to play once you buy the retail box/download.

I will say im glad AOC didnt offer that  sub option at release. That game was good until after level 20 or so as was Warhammer. I play alot so they wouldnt have gotten me but a lot of casual players that wouldnt be too far after the free 30 days would have had sore wallets in those two examples.  I would have to play a newly released game at least 3 months to even consider that option. But thats just me.

It has to be true, i have internet links.

Bingo. It's just like extended warranties - if the store wants you to buy it, then it's a good deal for them, not for you.

The lifetime sub also comes with 8 additional character slots.  Over the lifetime of the game, if you can see yourself playing for 12 or so months and purchasing extra slots, then the lifetime sub will save you money.

REALLY? Eight additional slots? How many if I don't buy it?

I have 72 characters in Warhammer Online, BTW. Didn't pay extra for any of them.

Wonder how long it will be before someone has the balls to offer 24/7 access for extra charge.

You have 8 slots to start with.

Don't forget there is only one server, so how many of your 72 characters are on the same server because last time I check it was 10 slot per server,

  • AoC - 8 per server
  • WoW - 10 per server and 50 total per account
  • EVE - 3 character slots per account
  • Earth and Beyond - 5 characters per account
  • Star Wars Galaxies - 1 slot per server, a second one when you unlock your jedi.
  • Everquest 2 - 4 slots per server
  • LotRO - 5 slots per server
  • Asheron's Call - 6 characters total? (i'm not sure on this one)
  • FFXI only had one character slot, the rest unlockable by paying. Like in Champions Online
  • Aion - 8 per server and 16 per account (it might have change)
