In patch 3.2.2, Onyxia makes her return as a level 80 version of exactly the same fight people enjoyed at 60, with gear that will look the same as T2. Seeing as they removed the onyxia quest line quite a bit of time ago, this will basicially be the next "draenei" that they will be pulling with the lore. She was beheaded at 60 at the end of said chain/raid, and I feel that this is just another example of Blizzard saying profits > lore. Heck, she will even drop a 310% FLYING MOUNT, and anyone who logs on during the week of the patch will get a free noncombat pet. Reading between the lines, the message is actually "pay us your month fee or you will never get another chance at this pet." Anyways, I quit the game in preparation for FFXIV, and feel that it is taking yet another nosedive towards mediocricy. Anyways, here's a poll.

It's their IP, they can do whatever the %#!@ they want with it. Whether or not the playerbase accepts it or not is their problem. Personally, I find it hilarious that you're quitting over a raid boss's level adjustment instead of over the FLYING MAGICAL SPACE-MONKIES POWERED BY INTELLIGENT CRYSTALS which were never mentioned until BC appeared. That's the Retcon I had trouble swallowing. Yes, I am an English Major. |

Actually quit a month ago ^^ And yes, this will be the next "draenei" of the game. It just strikes me as a way to remove the ony farming people do, and it sets a precedent for future content to just be level-adjusted instances from level 60/70/80. And by "without fear of the playerbase objecting" I mean that people "object" by keeping their money in their pockets. I object to their game, so its what I now do. The issue at hand is their playerbase is mostly children... most of the adults, I included, are moving on. Oh, and also, if I see "Ghost of Kael'Thas" as a enemy in the future, I will be even more glad I stopped playing <.< |

Originally posted by Cavall Actually I think you are making too quick of a judgment call here. We do not know how often the mount drops. They have already given away a free non-combat pet before at the anniversary. And to be completely honest, how do you expect them to re-do any of the level 60, old world original WOW instances without hurting the lore? As a matter of fact, why are we even talking about lore? It's an instance for crying out loud. If you are worried about the lore, then damn them for using instances because I guess Onyxia died and came back to life 3473679389 times. Sometimes lore has to take a back seat to make a game, a movie, or whatever. I think for the most part the playerbase would be glad to see the fight again and it would bring back a lot of old memories. And if this is successful, they could do the same with MC and BWL among others. EDIT: Onyxia is only farmed now. My wife and I were able to down her, just the two of us. It was easy. The fight, one of the most fun and frustrating in the game is skipped over now by people leveling to 80 quickly and the fact that at 58 you head to Outland and don't look back. I have no issues with this being a level 80 instance now. |

I'm not thrilled with the prospect of this being fact simply because I can handle only so much repetition of an encounter. Recyled Naxx was a nightmare...I did it at 60, so having to do it again at 80 and ridiculously easier at that, was a game-breaker for me. I know some people probably enjoyed it, but something fresh would have been cooler and less brain-melting ^_^ ![]() |

Haha, I like this bit of information. WoW players will eat this shit up like it's gold, and all the WoW devs had to do was change the level on an old boss that people have ran hundreds of times before. I have to give props to Blizzard, they know how to get people to drink the kool aid and love doing it. |

You are really that concerned to the point you "read between the lines" that blizzard is holding a vanity pet hostage over the player base? Really, that upsets you?
I'm not sure what is being retcon'ed in this situation. Are they changing the storyline or does adding 20 levels to onyxia somehow break immersion for you? It isn't like she wasn't killed thousands of times every week already, so what is the big deal if they up her level?
I'll give you the point about recycling content and I understand why they did it with naxx as so few people actually got a chance to see it, but I'm not sure why they would revamp onxyia. |

What the hell does "retcon" mean? I hope to god it's not a strung together fragment of two words...if that's the case then jesus christ you people are getting lazy. |

What gets me is that the OP is pissed about the lore, the non combat pet and the mount... And not by the mere fact that the WoW devs are lazy as shit... You could fill a thread with numerous of pages on the re-hashed shit they have re-rolled out.

At least Naxx fit in with the story perfectly. I'm thinking Blizzard always planned on removing lvl 60 Naxx and moving it back to Northrend. What people here dont realise is that lvl 60 Ony will be removed forever with this patch. But what I find hilarious is the claims by Blizzard blue posts on their forums that this will allow people to see Onyxia. Blizzard: We're going to remove Onyxia, something thats been in the game for 5 years and replace it with with a new onyxia so people can see onyxia. Back in Classic Wow we got Onyxia and Molten Core (8 bosses) at the start then 2 world bosses then Blackwing Lair (8 bosses)then Zul'Gurrub (10 bosses) then another 4 world bosses then AQ20 (6 bosses) AQ40 (9 bosses) and then Naxxramas (15 bosses). All in the space of 18 months. Then were things like the Thunderaan fight to get Thunderfury made. The awesome Eranikus fight in moonglade as part of the AQ40 chain and then the fight after the gates are opened in Silithus. So far in Wrath of the Fail King we've got a rehashed Naxx, Malygos, 3 crappy bosses in VoA, Sartharion, Ulduar and a 1 room "instance" of rehashed boss dropping rehashed gear. Oh, Wrath of the Lame King is brilliant. 2 content patches in 9 months.

And the average player back then didn't see most of what you mentioned. Onyxia and MC were common, some guilds saw BWL, hardly any saw NAxx and AQ40. And the only reason a lof of MC, ZAG and AQ20 were seen was due to the big nerf the year BC came out. So even though the content was there, a large percentage of the playerbase never saw it. Now with WoTLK, at least the average player has a chance to see the content and experience. Some hate that notion, others love it. Level 60 Onyxia might as well be removed, hardly anyone goes and tries to get 40 people together at level 60 and fight her.... its not worth the time or the effort. Its easier to get to level 80 and just farm her. |

Since when has lore mattered to Blizzard? They just hash the crap out as they go anyways...at least, the stuff they don't 'borrow' from elsewhere. |

I took a glance over at the official forums, which I haven't touched since I quit a while back, just to see the reaction to this announcement. I knew it. People are loving it. "Sweet!! OMG Onyxia is back! I probably killed her 50 times pre-TBC, can't wait to do it 50 more times!" I'm at a loss for words. The things that some people will pay for. |

Is it just me, or is anyone else bothered (Lore-wise) by the fact that 2 people can WTFPWN the great dragon Onyxia? That's the true issue in my eyes.
