Just curious if current EQ2 players are going to cancel and go and try Aion? I am undecided which game to play, i like the pvp aspect of Aion, but i have a feeling that is all that is going to be happening, and it might turn out to be very repitious. Eq2 has endless areas to explore, tons of quests to keep you going for along time. So, why would anyone leave eq2 to play Aion? what is your reason.

I tried the beta of Aion and wasn't that impressed - it seemed too much like WoW for me. I imagine EQ2 will be a game I'll always come back to - if I leave for anything it will be Champions Online.

If you don't know where you're going you're never lost.

EQ2 and Aion serve a different purpose: EQ2 is clearly a quest-driven pve game whilst Aion is RvPvP orientated. The art-style is also very different - Aion being much more asian-style, à la Guild Wars ( both being from NC Soft).

Ive been in beta for a few months now and will play Aion upon release but I doubt I will leave EQ2 for this game. What I would like to experience first is the way PvP is handled in Aion (if it turns out to be a gigantic gankfest, or not, but that's another debate).

I'll be giving it a go because it's new.  I have two characters at max level in EQ2 so it gets a little boring now and cant play for long at any given time.

Why would I do that? Especially with SWTOR coming out not too long from now? I'd much rather play this game than any crappy free one anyway.

EQ2 still has its talons in me.  I always seem to compare other MMO's to it.  I haven't been to impressed with the screens of Aion.  The only game I have found recently that holds my attention is a f2p game ROM. Granted its not as huge as EQ2 and surely better then WoW!  It has a good player base and is similar enough to wet the appetite for something different.

Yeah I agree that EQ2 and Aion have two very different audiences. I wouldn't expect a lot of people from EQ2 to leave for Aion.

1.5

12 various instances have been released
   - These new instances all come with different themes
   - These instances are aimed to give players better items and Abyss Points.

AND "Set items obtainable from the new instance dungeons."

The PvE looks promising imo. Nothing over the top but still good.

I didnt play it yet, but considering graphics and vids, I dont think so. I dont like the anime graphic style and the animations. Even if the gameplay is great, i couldnt watch at the screen for long.

Everyone not playing wow is a wow hater! :P

I think a lot of the EQ2 people that play for the PvE aspect of the game would be turned off by the forced PvP.

Really what I am looking for is a temporary change of pace to introduce a bit more variety into my gaming.  I have bought Aion and so have a number of others from my guild in EQ2. We are planning to play Aion part time and just run as a group looking for pvp opportunities. I love EQ2 and have no intention of leaving it, but the next expansion is a long way away and I have already met most of my character goals for the current expansion. So I am hoping that Aion will be a fun diversion for me in between raids and keep me occupied until more contant is released.

My biggest concern about Aion is the crappy community on the forums and the training and kill stealling in the beta. Unfortunately that kind of community seems to come with pvp games.  However since I will be playing with some decent folk from my guild we should be able to look out for each other and overlook any community problems.

I'm with you about the anime. I cannot stand that style, and I simply loath the cartoons with a passion. They actually give me a headache.

I was in the Aion beta and wasn't impressed.  The graphics and flying were the two awesome features of the game.  Other then that it is rather linear, combat is rather vanilla, better then EQ2 but thats debatable.  I consider eq2's combat to be the weakest point of the game.  But the real deal breaker for me is the game is forced PvP.  I'm more into PvE and after about lvl 20 you can't avoid PvP and it becomes the main focus of the game.

In general I consider the game rather plain with nothing really bad but nothing really great.

I felt eq2 offers more variety and more depth.  I'm also playing LoTRO which I consider superior to Aion in just about every catagory that matters.

A game that has me more interested the Aion is Champions Online.  I haven't played it so it might suck but it looks like it is COH but upgraded to be comparable in depth to most top MMO games.  like eq2 it has one of my favorite features the ability to mentor or sidekick as it is called.  Like warhammer it has open group quests which I think are fantastic.  It also has regular open world quests and encounters similar to normal MMOs.  It has instances that are solo or can scale to support a team.  It has a cool archvilllian system where you create a villian that plagues you throughout the game.  It has crafting and a broker.  It has PvP instances where you can do open PvP or battleground like things.  Overall it looks very good and appears to bring the best of most games together in one game.

EQ2 vs Aion?

EQ2 is the clear winner, at least for those who enjoy tons of content.  Aion seems very small - microscopic - compared to EQ2.  Sure, EQ2 doesn't have the prettiest armor textures, but it has far better gameplay than Aion ever will.

You're comparing a freaking apple to an orange here.  Ive played EQ2 since early beta and played aion and nothing alike the target audiences are 100% different in every way.   You cannot compare a PVP oriented games gameplay to a 100% PVE oriented games gameplay it is 2 different styles.

EQ2 = Maybe the best PVE game out right now the content is amazing and it truley is a great game if it were released like this they would of gotten 10 times the players.

Aion= a PVP game people can talk about the PVE but fact is we will all be PVPing inthe abyss 80-90% of the time we play Aion.

The comparison was implied by the OP.  The OP asked if EQ2 players would leave EQ2 for Aion.  I stated the obvious difference between the two, and the obvious reason why people will not leave EQ2 for Aion.  You helped solitify my observations by stating EQ2 is a PvE game, and Aion is a PvP game.

Regardless, no, I don't think people will leave EQ2 for Aion because EQ2 players like lots of content in a seemingly open world, whereas Aion provides very linear gameplay with little-to-no freedom.

Aion = Connect the dots until you get to Abyss where you just wander around grinding XP in different ways.

EQ2 = a huge world with tons of options and freedom and seemingly endless ways to advance your character with tons of different goals to achieve along the way.

If you want to play a pure-PvP game, then play Aion.  If you want a game with a lot of freedom, character development, and much more, then EQ2 is a far better choice.
