Hey guys.  I noticed their are a lot of GW vets on this forum and Im a newb so I was wondering if you guys could maybe help me out?  I already know that Guild Wars is one of the only MMOs were you can actually beat the story line, and the game is not really about equipment (as their is not a lot of it)  But Im a little worried about something.. When you beat the story line is that the end of the game so you move on to the next expansion?  Or are their still a lot of things to do in the one you just beat?  I didnt really want this to be a game I played for a couple of months then be done with.. I would like this to be my main MMO for the next couple of years.  So if you guys could help me out that would be fantastic.  Thanks.

Well if you are just wanting to complete the campaign story and that's it then yes you'll have to move on to the next campaign. However, there are all sorts of little things you can do in the pve setting that can keep you busy. Most of those involve titles you can attain. However, if you play Guild Wars just for the pve you are missing half of the game. The original intent for the game was to be pvp dominated (although that has changed over the years). So if you enjoy pvp, especially arena style pvp, there is no better game than Guild Wars. You can even make a pvp character without having to bother with leveling up, getting all the mods on your gear, and other pve related activities. I always recommend new players to check out the guild wars wiki and read it over. It can give you an overall idea of the game and what you can do with it.

Computer, me and my son have been playing GW for nearly four years now and we still find plenty to do. I think my kid would agree that neither side really dominates the other as you have to play equal sides of PvE and PvP to make the most out of the game as a whole. Hopefully you'll be entertained long enough for GW2 to take over.

yeah what he said
ive been playing for four years and i find that GW has a lot of replayability to it even after you finish the main storyline
what i usually do after finishing a storyline is doing elite content, dungeons and doing missions again in Hard Mode
vanquishing is wiping out all the monsters in an explorable area in hard mode which can be a challenging task
or try out a different professions!
its fun to see how each profession plays differently from each other
even though equipment and armor are standardized, you'll find out that GW players are obssessed with weapon skins and elite armors
the April update introduced Zaishen missions and boss bounties that changes everyday
Nicholas the Traveller changes locations every week and give gifts to those who finds him and his yak
if equipment and grinding is not your cup of tea, you may want to explore the beautiful world of Tyria. you may have missed some fantastic locations while being focused on doing your missions. i got a thousand screenshots of scenic vistas of the game world
see you ingame

I downloaded the demo of Guild Wars and I've been putzing around on and off for the past two days.  I have been enjoying it and  I'm wondering if I should cough up the 20$ just for GW, or if I should dump $50 and get the whole kit and kaboodle.

NcSoft has perfected the paid for grindfest, and I am sad because of it :-(

My opinion is that if you're going to get it, get it all. One character can be played between all 3 campaing storylines and the expansion, you'll have the ability to buy (once you get to the vendors) or capture (once you get to the target) all the skills in the game which will open up a nearly limitless number of build options.  I'm not sure where the demo takes place but having Nightfall and Eye of the North gives you access to heroes which are many times stronger and more capable than henchmen and even quite a few players.

Iaini, thanks for the info.  I just downloaded the original GW game for the demo.  Based on what you've mentioned on the other stuff, I think I'll look at picking up the full deal.

Thank you!
