I've played both Pirates of the Burning Sea and Pirates of the Caribbean Online, and neither of them are really that good ... I think a proper Pirate MMO would be awesome, and I hope it happens one day soon. You never know, maybe Blizzard's unannounced game is a Pirate MMO! :P Obviously it needs epic sea battles, humour, massive ships and colourful characters, but what do you think the perfect Pirate MMO needs? And which developer would you choose to make it?

A One Piece mmo would fit all the criteria.. man i would play that in a heartbeat.. Don't really keep up to speed with developers, so i have no clue which one i would want developing it..
Just think of all the possibilites.. :D Ping is Death! |

I thought PotBS was pretty decent, though I would love for an MMO based on the 7th Sea universe. |

Love the MMORPG concept, but sick to death of M.M.O. Repetitive Pointless Grinds.. |

Why do people think a game should keep a player entertained indefinately? That's a nice ideal and all, but in my experience, if it keeps me playing for three months, I'll call it a good game. Any more than that, probably a great game.

I don't know if a realistic or a Hollywood version of Pirates; The Crimson Pirate, Against all Flags, The Sea Hawks, Treasure Island etc.... would be better. Most people think pirates and they think Hollywood not history. PotC I think was too over the top as it was Disney's attempt to turn their movie into a game. PotBS actually has most of your checklisted items in it: epic sea battles - large Port Battles, someone last night did a 6 v 6 ship battle that lasted about 1 1/2 hours humour - tongue in cheek easter egg type stuff massive ships - top end 1st Rate's are plenty big and colourful characters - OK I'd say no on this one. A really good pirate game? Oh heck yea I wish someone would come up with one. Downside is it would always be a niche market game and tough to balance. Too easy and you risk it being cartoony, too hard and it's just not acceptable to the masses. As to trying PotBS again. Do the 14 day trial or you may have the 'please come back offer' hanging in your SOE account sub window. If so all your toon's will still be there. I'm 1/2 way through my welcome back and probably won't sub as not enough has changed, plus the pop's are way down which is a killer effect on so many items. But as the one post said if it works for you for 3 months it was good. For a new player, the various questlines and what not's should keep you happy for that long and at the lower levels it can play ok as a solo game. |

I'd love to see Pirates of the Caribbean Online taken out of Disney's hands and remade. I love the movies, great stories, great characters, but that MMO seriously sucks noodles (Among other things.). How about a "The Princess Bride" MMORPG? For those who may not know its a book and it was made in to a movie back in the 80's. There was a pirate in the movie and mentioned other pirates as well. I'd say more, but I would want to ruin the book or movie. For someone who hasn't seen it before. It would be a nice balance between action, adventure, fantasy, and comedy. When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there! |
