WoW's problem is because its so huge, theres many more oppurtunities for stories about douche bags to come out. I know theres a lot of asshats in WoW but the number of good and helpful people I've run across in game far outweighs the bad. |

I don't even think most the people in this thread have a problem with WoW's community when playing the game, if they did. I just think they hate on WoW because they blame the way the direction of the genre has gone and it's fashionable to hate on WoW now cause it's popular. And FYI WoW didn't ruin the genre it's a great game for what it's done. The problem is with all the developers creating clones ever since and thats not WoW's fault.
So because you met nice people in wow, everyone else is a lier. Got it. Who trashs the thread again, a wowboy. Back in wow vanilla, when I mostly played, I never met so many ninjas and group leavers (during ubrs runs) in any other game again. Of course I'm a lier, because 11mio players say, there are no ninjas and dickheads in wow...

just spent 20 minutes googling that server and reading up on it. I stopped once i got to the 50yr old pedophile who multiboxes and hires prostitutes....
as for the thread: Best: toss up between Ryzom and Lotro. Ryzom was just filled with helpful people. Lotro because people seemed so nice and welcoming...and every guild i have been in (4 so far) have been the friendliest guilds i have come across in any game. Worst: toss up between WoW and WAR. WoW...well it's WoW, what more do i have to say. WAR because no one talked...which really kills a game for me. Originally posted by Cyborg99 |

Asherons call 2 Hands down best community in 10 years ive played mmorpg´s. Worsed well i did not like WoW for few months ive played it in beginning, AoC was was terible from launch to 2 months ive played that one. But even tho i like the game and now playing for 6 months Darkfall i must say its bad community very bad:( And i mean the trash talk the pure nonsens in Race Alliance(mahirim/Ork) but its also bit of way Darkfall has been designed its pure PK/GANK game there are no ANTI'S Aventurine have kill those in this game, so it prolly a magnet for douchbags i dunno? Exploits/hackers/afk-macroers prolly bring the anti social community to Darkfall i realy dunno why its so terible other wise? But there still a few and im affraid its only a few that are nice, but overall its terible:( This is also fault AV from name policy character names(lil pedo or clan name like Nazis force or Analsex association)ive reported those names but there still ingame, also GM do nothing they dont care report in Darkfall dont work biggest cheaters and offensive names are not banned or removed. This will cost AV subs im sure of it, its a very dumb way of running a game:( |

I've played a lot of MMO's over the years. I think it's sort of unfair to catagorize and entire games population because of one persons bad experience. There are very mature, cool people playing just about anything. I think sometimes it's the complaining player that's just to damn lazy to look for some people they like and instead stick with the first asshat they meet. It takes time to meet people you enjoy playing the game a game with. But to get to the point of the post... There a few MMO's that the communities really stood out for me (in MY experience and this no way reflects on the total community) Asherons Call - My first MMO. I played with a bunch of people for over a year and someof us still talk every once in a while. The moment that sticks out for me is my guild helping me recover a corpse from an acid pit...lol...hours of fun! Lineage 2 - truely a game filled with the noblest (ingame) heroes and some the most evil pricks I ever met! It made the game a joy to play. I still have contact with a lot of them. DAoC - played with a bunch of RL friends & ingame friends and never had a better time. (to bad WAR fell through for us) Guild Wars - again because I played with my RL friends. WAR - again because I played with my RL friends and my wife and ingame friends. It was a blast while it lasted.
The WORST communities I have experience are the ones I didn't take the time to get to know anyone. A lot of MMO's I am pretty indifferent about. WoW didn't bother me to much. I don't know why people hammer on the game so much. I think many people confuse those general chat channels for the "community" lol...those are usually filled with the people that no one wants around. I think what a lot of players need to keep in mind is you are able to build your own community in any game. You can talk your gaming friends into joining you, you can talk to people ingame and look for like minded people. You can ignore people who are idiots and report them if they harass you. No one forces you to read the general chat, you can shut it off, no one is saying anything worth reading anyway.
Games, above all else, are about fun. MMORPG's are no different. If you are not having fun, find something else to do with your time and money and stop your bitchin. |

Best EQ1, with CoH a close second. Worst Warhammer, but not really because of the players really, but the way it was just seemingly designed from the ground up to not even have one when I played. |

Best: anything up through around 1999.
Worst: anythign from 1999 on. |

Best: DAoC; with EQ and LotRO coming in pretty high. Worst: WoW, EVE, Shadowbane. The asshattery in WoW is omnipresent. It's embedded into the very fabric of the game. |

That said, Best: SWG Worst: WoW ... although I've been playing since launch. Least my guild is decent. :p |

Best by a mile was EQ1 followed probably by LOTRO. Worst was my time playing on FFA PVP servers in AOC and trying to be a part of that community. Also recently have been playing battlefield Heroes. Fun time sink game but TERRIBLE community.

I'm a huge MMO fan and have already played many before, but I must confess that theres no better community than Ryzom, everyone is nice to everyone (even with newbies), all new players get really impressed. New players telling vets how nice they are in the newb zone and out of it is very very commom. Also, it's one of the most mature community I have seen, maybe it's because you can't jump around in the game... I don't know, but thats how the game is and I just love the community. If you want any information about the gane that I can provide I will be glad to help, just pm me. To sum up for those who hate reading too much or are in a hurry...
BEST: Ryzom (Very nice & mature community) Worst: WoW (No comments...) |

P2P Best: WoW, I have many reasons, but i feel a good community has good guys and bad guys to make the game feel more realistic. Ive found that the servers ive played on have this mix pretty well down. I remember when BC launched and the alliance had two 40 man raids at the gates just slaughtering us horde. That was the best moment i had in BC...ehehe Worst: EQ2, The time i spent in eq2 was alot of alone time. People i tried to talk who were more established in game had the "Elite" attitude and wouldnt have much to do with me, or the party i found myself in. Me and the party members had just started. After the next month i found more of the same attitude. And lots of drama. F2P Best: 9 Dragons as much as i hate to say it. The game itself isnt that great, but the community was welcoming. Thats something you really dont find much in an F2P. There was plenty of guilds, lots of them recruiting, lotsa of chatter around hunting areas. All in all a good social community. Worst: 2 Moons Ive never felt more alone then i did when i played 2 moons. I played for 2 months, i was in maybe 1 party that i was invited for. 2 partys i did then inviting for. Not that i didnt try, most of the time i couldnt PAY people to group up. Guilds were hard to create and most of the players ended up in elite guilds that ate up most of the good players. You had to grind to 30+ to get into one. And once i did manage to get into one, it was the dullest guild id have ever been in. The other two i tried out were ok, but the general conversation was non existent in all 3. |
