Hi everyone, I am considering resubbing to LotRO. I currently play WoW and have just grown tired of it. I have hear nothing but good things about LotRO and that it is a very good PvE oriented game, which sounds great to me. I also read somewhere that the game feels like you are playing alone almost always. Is this pretty much true? Would I be playing this MMO always alone, no one talking no groups ever? Any info would be awesome guys, thanks

To be quite honest it's pretty true but only to same point , as a subcriber i find that if i wanted too i could level all the way to 60 without ever grouping or speaking to anyone .

Or you can be a little less savage and actually keep those groups quests and book quests and try and do them with a fellowship ( group ).

One thing also Kinship mostly useful endgame only ( raiding ) , very rarely will they help pre level 60 unless someone is bored .

It's a great game i love it , but sometimes i wish mmo's werent so solo oriented .

Am not saying this will hold true to everyone but it has for me in the last year or so , even tried 5 kinship and all always lv60 content being done night after night .

Anyways you played Wow so the leveling is pretty much the same your on your own t'ill lv70 unless you wanna run alot of instances between that .

good luck in your choice

I guess leveling solo is no problem, but my concern was more towards like towns or certain hubs. No talking in general chats and such, or no help when questions are asked.

Actually if you join Brandywine server , players have created a custom chat channel that global no matter where you are called GLFF , so most peoples join this channel to ask questions et look for groups anywhere they are .

It does make feel the game more lively on certains hours of the day , not sure if other servers have this channel though i only play on brandywine .

Hope that answers your question

Yeah, but if you don't use custom channels, there's no talking, ever, really. Maybe some in the advice channel if you are in Bree.

But it's the quietest game I've ever played. And I've played Sword of the New World, where 95% of the user base is afk (since afk leveling is a feature of that).

And PvE, it's probably going to come as a shock coming from WoW, as there's about 1/4 as many quests.

Also, while I can you can solo to 60, it's not easy, since a lot of the quests are for groups (but impossible to find groups for). And some of the solo quests are actually for small groups (duos). Where I am in the game, for instance, I have quests inside this evil city. But as near as I can tell, the only way in is to fight 3 guards at once (which I cannot do, I can just barely handle two, if I use a healing potion, which has a huge cooldown).  And one I just finished, I had tried at the level I was given, but it required me to fight several "signet" monsters (some sort of lady vampire thing), which are much tougher than regular monsters. Despite being 5 levels higher, just barely managed to kill them.

But with two people, these are quite doable. Indeed, that game seems really aimed at duos, more than groups or single players.

OK, I want to resub just have a quick question. Mines of Moria is out now and I see you can get the digital upgrade for $9.99. So that means $14.99 and then the $9.99 upgrade? If I make a new account I thought I saw the whole thing for $9.99 first month free. Could you guys clear that up for me? Thanks

Heya! Lotro is a good game :) to truly enjoy it, here some advice.

- Get into a big  Guild / Kinship with mature people

- go to the next zone if youre fat up with the one youre questing in

- get a Dx10 card ^^

- roll your toon on the Rp server

- Rp at the pony if you are burned out by questing

- oin groups  and if no groups are starting, start one yourself, if you cant find groups for your quests

move on or go to the pony..explore or craft XD

that with the game lotro should provide ya some months of fun at least if you like the setting.

regards

Pretty sure all the servers do this.  I know Landroval and Elendilmir do at least in addition to Brandywine.  It's a shame that it had to be player created and wasn't put in by Turbine themselves because I think some are never even aware of these channels and if other servers are anything like Elendilmir this channel is what most people use to find groups if they're forming a pug.

You would think since even the Turbine reps use the channel they would at least advertise it within their game so everyone knows the channel(s) are available.

Here is the forums for Lotro,

i think the Us there is no official RP server so you have to ask around.

forums.lotro.com/forumlist.php

The pony? ^^ you´ll find out by playing hehe, a hint.. its in Bree.

Dx10 card  ? then you MUST have a look at Lotro, ofcourse at full settings

*envy+ ;)

Rofl , you dont need Dx10 too enjoy this game !

you dont need a big kinship either trust me on this .

yes people play music at the prancing pony and rp abit if your into that .

and most important YOU dont to group to get to max level in this game , and no you will never ever run out of quests before they start turning green . which means it's time to move to another zone .

not true that most quests are for groups and either way there a LFF channel which is for finding groups .

I play everyday almost and i never have a problem finding a group for my quests , actually just finished book2 today did the whole thing with a fellowship today .

-- Every class can solo in lotro with ease even healers , only difference is the speed they do it .

-- Landroval is the unofficial RP server but brandywine is the biggest server in terms of population.

-- as for moria it's 10$ for the expansion so you still have to pay a monthly fee , unless your account is new well you 'ill 1 free month to start .

I agree with the custom channels comment because it is rather quiet if you don't use those channels but there are more quests than you could shake a stick at in this game now.  I still don't get how you have so much trouble grouping because I've never had an issue with that in this game this time around.  It can be an issue on the lesser populated servers but aren't you playing on Landroval?

Don't get me wrong I still think its an issue because there are servers where your comments apply, but I just don't see how anyone on Elendilmir, Brandywine, or Landroval can be having this issue considering the amount of players that are on those servers.

I am on Landroval and recently re-subbed after a 1 1/2 year break. Currently playing a runekeeper (level 31) with a hunter from ages ago that is still level 48. I find that in the main areas like Bree, Esteldin, etc that it is very populated. Two nights ago it took me 10 mintues to put together 6 people for Volume 1, Book 3, Chapters 4,5&6. I see chat throughout the day without being on a special channel, though the Global LFF is always talking about something...but those are mostly end game people. The guild I am in is always chatting with about 20+ people on at most times. Its not a huge guild, but very active with chat. So far, I dont see many chat or population issues and Ive been forcing myself to group for all the Books. I group for the other quests when I see someone send a LFF and I need that quest.

If you haven't purchased MoM yet then yes you will have to purchase it to have access to that account once you reactivate it.

I have had almost no trouble finding groups for anything or any sort of quest.  There is quite often people talking in lff, ooc, or some other channel.

Plus the kin is always chatting about something.

This is decidedly NOT a problem on Brandywine server.

Just wondering on this whole thing about price now, 14.99 to reactivate plus 9.99 for MoM, or just 9.99 if I upgrade a trial account?

To the best of my knowledge you would go into the Turbine account manager and select buy now to get the digital version. The digital version of MoM is $9.99 right now. That comes with 30 free days. I think that is all you would have to pay.

Well after reading it over and over again, it seems that if I choose to upgrade my account it will only be 9.99 but if I reactivate I may have to pay both, which is cool, cause I dont have any super good characters on my original account.

That all depends on what server you choose... There always seems to be folks talking in the various channels on Landroval. And I always seem to see players LFG>
