Champions online, wont kill wow, because it dosn't have mainstream appeal, even to MMORPG gamers. The price of playing a different game, is convincing all your friends to do the same. People have heavily invested time into their current games, and those that have quit, are most likely tired of the same'ol. A wow killer would have to be: Sub Genre switch within the MMORPG Genre that holds mainstream appeal. - EQ1 --> wow aint gonna work again. Play that not only deviates .. but is radically different then the current leader. Ease of access - Games like Eve online, are too hard to get new player en-masse into.
I had typed alot more, and refined things a bit, but .. the web ate all the changes, and i just don't care enough to type it all twice. |

Will Champions Online kill WOW? NO |

Its disappointing to see this continues comparison to WOW, as though WoW were the measure of all gaming. As far as Champions Online is concerned I'm not a Super Hero type gaming fan so It won't appeal much to me, but it should be a nice diversion from City of Heroes.

As it is a game that appeals to players in an entirely different genre of mmo, it would be "illogical" (thanks spock) that it could kill wow. Numbers wise many games already have more members than WOW but its not going into total shutdown....YET

WOW Killer? No, the only thing that will kill WOW is time and boredom from the game. I am excited about Champions Online, too. but I think the market is too saturated with MMO's to have it do as well as WOW has done. |

It has a chance to kill wow as, anything is possible I am pumped up for champs as it something fresh and not the same old grind for shiny gear raid shenanigans. But the majority of mmo's still stink of the EQ template which must be crushed into the ground. |

WTF is it with these WOW killer posts? Who the fuck cares if you like playing the game then have fun with it. Personally I don't care for the Looney Tunes graphics which are worse than WOW. No, I don't play WOW anymore but even if I did who the fuck cares. When Blizz releases their next MMO IP it will be what is the next (insert game name) killer. Fucking get over it already and play whatever the fuck you want because its your choice. It's a simple world for complicated people! Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. |

Warcrafts subs have been sliding this year ( beyond the situation in china) its the reason we ve had no quarterly statement from blizzard since december 2008 . The real wowkiller is blizzard . champions will do well enough but it ll proberbly be a niche game . Aions the one that deals a significant body blow to wow but it wont kill it . hey nothings killed ultima online yet either . |

This is a stupid post made by a stupid person.
The Devs at Cryptic have stated that they would be thrilled with 100k subs and that anything over 50k subs would be gravy. As someone who is interested in Champions I find this refreshing - they know their place and have set up their game with realistic expectations, unlike the graveyards of Warhammer and Age of Conan who went out thinking they might hit 10 mil subs from the gate. |

For crying out loud people, stop looking for an MMO to label a WoW killer. No game, NO game, will kill off WoW. WoW didn't kill off Everquest - EQ is still going, as is EQ2. If an MMO takes most of WoWs subscribers it still won't just die. It's not going to happen for the next 5 years at the very least. And for the record, I'm a CO beta player, and I quit WoW Pre-Burning Crusade. |

CO will not kill WoW. In fact, it will not even kill CoH.

Start worrying about other players in a game and dont just play |
And microtransactions, plus a subscription..... |

Will CO be WoW - killer? Nertainly not. Does we need CO to be WoW - killer? Not at all. Its very simple. Different game, different genre. If the game is good, it will have steady playerbase and thats enough. We actually dont need WoW killer at all. Let all people who play it enjoy their game. WoW never dragged me into, so for me is dead already :) Im gonna play CO andI hope it will be good game to have some fun, thats all I expect from it. |

Wise words. Any Superhero game is per se way to niche to be a WOW killer. And honestly, I really could care less. CO has the potential to be a really cool game once it is polished. But only an all-world simulation can someday beat WOW. If any. WOW may be that one time phenomenon. I doubt that today with so many MMOs existing WOW could have grown so big. It was a different era when WOW was started. Its kinda like the USA. You cant create any new big countries, when all the claims are taken. At least only at the expense of others, and WOW practically MADE their playerbase, and IMVPO that potential of "many new players who never played a MMO" is by and large tapped by now. And as I said... I could not care less. When I enjoy the game and it has a stable player base 100k or more, why should I bother what WOW does? |

No, CO will not kill WoW. While both have micro transactions, albeit in different forms, each appeals to a different audience.

There's no such thing as a WoW-killer. Never will be. Any company that has its main goal to develop a WoW killer is doomed to fail. Make the game fun and people will come - that should be the main goal. It looks like CO will be fun, and judging from the relative success of CoH, CO should do at least as well, if not better. I do think because of WoW's success, people looking for their second MMO will be more apt to try out CO if it's getting good buzz post-release. But I highly doubt CO will ever threaten WoW's numbers. |

Nothing is going to kill WoW, though TOR might make it a cripple. |

Guild Wars 2 will be the new term I like to call "The WoW Clever" | "The WoW Dent-er"
Wont kill WoW but may cut into it |

CO is a nice fun game, but it does not have a large contiguous world without boundaries. (or at least the illusion of one). Only another game with that design will kill wow. |
