So what is the content like? Does it have at least as much as current state WoW? As much as the monolithic Everquest? What is crafting like? Right now I just don't see a lick of Everquest in the game, no offense. A combo system, flying, and a switch of scenery isn't enough to do it for me. I'm just taking it at face value here. I'm getting vibes of a rehashed system that we've been fed for the last 6 or 7 years, with a new coat of paint. I really hope I'm wrong. I'd like something that isn't simple that won't attract a twelve year old, but I see nothing of the sorts so far. Oh, and the video in the OP's link showcases pretty graphics and animations and nothing else. Does anyone have a link to a good features video? |

What I posted on another forum asking the same question, the similarities and differences between the two games. It's missing the obvious stuff though, like Aions focus on PvPvE and such. I mention sorc, btw, because the person asking was a mage in WoW :P. |

As far as is the conent as much as WoW or EQ, no, but it does have enough on par when those two began. So far there are more complexities in its combat than WoW, WAR, AoC, and a lot of other P2P MMO's have to date. Currently playing: |

(Sorry for double post, but the MMORPG.com forum system sucks and fucks up quote chains.)
Crafting is pretty standard MMO fair. There are a bunch of skills available for leveling up. A player may level up all the skills, but may only level up two (patch 1.5 addressed this up from 1) skills to the "max" which is 425 or 450 I believe. Otherwise you are stuck with the rest going up to 399. Crafting items compete with the best gear, and requires a bit of luck to get due to getting some of the best items by "critting" a craft. I'm not sure what influences, how often it happens, but it does happen. Like if you crit a blue item craft it may become a gold item. Brings in a bit of excitement possibly into the crafting system, especially if you are one who have an addictive personality. Leveling crafting is standard, although you can also get work orders. Work orders are pretty much crafting quests, where they will asign you an item to make and give you some base materials to make it. Later on you have to start actually interjecting with your own materials, and such, but these quests reward you with crafting materials related to your profession -- so they're nice to do.
Well crafting, obviously. There is gathering and collecting aether as well, which I guess one could clump in with the idea of crafting. Collecting aether involves you flying around where as gathering is a standard fare. A majority of the game does seem focused on combat though, so its clear there isn't many non-combat activities.
Big is a pretty relative term. I think it's a decent size of a world, for sure. It's certainly not as large as a game like Lineage II is but between Elyos, Asmodian and the abyss I'd say probably around the size of vanilla WoW? This is a pure guess though, I haven't been to a lot of zones yet.
Fairly, yes. Like I said in the last post leveling feels a lot like the way blizzard did TBC and WoTLK compared to vanilla WoW. Instead of doing like 3 quests at barrens, then 2 at stonetallon and hopping around it's much more like you quest in a zone for the most part and progress through that in a somewhat linear fashion. It does open up in choice once you hit 25 and are given the choice between leveling in the abyss or elsewhere. At max level I think there is enough to do that the game doesn't feel like it is guiding you down a path (like a progression path in WoW raiding).
A few ways. For one, they have done an excellent job at adding content in the game at a wonderful pace. Patches 1.1, 1.2 and 1.5 all were huge patches adding in tons of new content. Patch 1.5 easily is one of the biggest non-expansion patches I have seen, adding in 12 or so instances, a ton of new stigmas and other things. Likewise patch 1.1 and 1.2 were no slouches either, I believe it was 1.2 which added 5 levels to the game, raising the cap from 45 to 50. So understandably I think we'll get a good stream of content to keep players in the game. The other way is obviously through PvP conflict and the abyss ranking system. PvP players, especially those who are a bit more competitive, will certainly love the abyss points system and that alone will probably provide a lot to keep someone playing and in the game. The game is based around PvPvE so these sort of conflicts will keep the game going for sure.
In a way what you're going to see with Aion is more of an evolutionary step, not revolutionary. Think of the step from Everquest to WoW, for example. It feels like Aion adds just enough new while keeping the familiar in line. It may not be as large as a step Everquest > WoW was but some of the finer points of the game are quite interesting and different. These are things that the average player will probably ignore (like movement bonuses in combat) where the higher up players will certainly take advantage of them.
Yeah the OP's video is pretty terrible. I would look around youtube for some videos depending on what you are interested in. I've watched some good PvP and PvE videos. Hopefully I answered your questions. |

In my opinion, this game is going to be another niche in USA. Once people start to get out of the PvE theme park area and access the real game, which is PvP, and start to get ganked, they will go back to WoW, AoC, or play something else. Forced PvP is not the cup of tea for many people. Wings are pretty though, but it's not a decision factor for playing a MMO. I prefer mounted combat in MMOs. Actually I would play AoC rather than Aion. AoC is sexy, Aion is EMO. |

Having actually played both AoC and Aion, i can give a good opinion on biggest difference between the 2. Aion in beta actually works and is perfectly polished :) while AoC 2 years after release is still the same broken POS they tried to sell people when it originally came out :))) So enjoy your broken PvP and bugged raids with 2 empty servers, while ill enjoy Aion like millions of other subscribers:)))

Man this thread is getting worse and worse. On one hand we have blind fanboys like supbro who aren't doing the rest of us any good. On the other hand we have people who actually think that a large number of people are going to play Aion because it has flight. To quote you guy's, How fucking stupid can you get?. Not like I'd expect any different though. These threads are just bait for these stupid things. Every now and then we get some good info out of them but most of the time it's just slinging mud at each other. (welcome to the forums I guess, right? :P) |

I am going to buy it be cause of the high fantasy setting and its an Asian game that isn't F2P. Hopefully this game and or FE will keep me busy till FFXIV comes out. |

i've seen absolutely nothing impressive in this video. sure some nice graphics (time to upgrade your pc again?) but obviously it's just a manipulated piece of promotion. what have we seen really? fights in the asian style ... what a novelty with all those asian grind games out there. there is one thing i did notice though: that character had only one skill bar where i use 3 of those in Runes of Magic. any comparison with other games is inconclusive for the moment though because there's little to base it on until the release. |

You would be surprised with how many people are trying and buying the game due to the fact of flying with wings. After all I was just being sarcastic to the OP with his stupid promotional video with 90% of it showing nothing but flying wings. He's gotta be your typical care bear that hasn't played more then 2-3 mmorpgs in his life. Next. |

Yeah, there are people that try the game just because it has flying, and then when they find out they can't fly everywhere and forever (if they bothered researching they would know it's more of a combat mechanic than a means of transporation) they go and troll the game because of the flying restrictions, and also say NCSoft lied to them (funny one). |

You fail at reading comprehension and logic. If you don't understand an issue, don't embarrass yourself with ignorant comments. Maybe one plus, if Aion launches with out alternative server types, will be that most of the dregs of the MMORPG fan base will settle there and make every other title a better place to be as a result. The current rule set will alienate and drive away the vast majority of customer base, once they experience and understand that the game is a griefers paradise. If NCSoft decides to launch this way, they will have no one else to blame but themselves when the retention numbers resemble those of AoC. Since the topic of this thread is projecting the level of success of the title and discussing elements that will effect it's level of success, your PvP griefer's QQ post really has no place here. I'm sick of all the whining about how adding a care bear server type might lessen your griefing fun come launch. I know that the game will be a lot scarier for you if you are forced to play on a server full of PvPers and fellow griefers, rather than brimming with hapless victims, but get over it. |

To me it looked like a bunch of ladyboy angels running around. Ha ha!
Aion has polish on its side, but I would imagine there are other 'westeners' out there like myself who do not like the 'mangaesque' look of the game. I seriously do not enjoy a bunch of pale-looking male models in lace mingling with their coat-hanger female counterparts, holding oversized weapons, with wings. That pretty much sums up the novelties of Aion. Having played the game, it was not bad, but I just can't get myself to like the look of this game. Also it looks much more like a grinder than the other 'current generation' titles. The reason why I spoke out so strongly is my guild is thinking of jumping ship to Aion. I love those people, they are great friends, but still I am not sure if I will 'migrate' to Aion. |

I am not implying I am a real man. I play Sims 3 and other 'girly' games all the time. I just detest the 'manga' look. I do not know why. There is nothing wrong with feminine men at all, but if you can't make character with a little bit of meat on its bones, it puts me off. |

NcSoft will never cave into the demands of small minority of PVE westerners. Please check your ignorance back at the door. When creating a vision like Aion the developers had purpose for the game and that was to interwine PVE and PvP mutually, with factions at war creating a conflict. PvP is the outcome of this conflict....The changes your asking for will never happen, you're a small minority and your cries will be swept under a rug as stated by NcSoft numerous times. I for one applaud Aion developers staying true to their marketed vision for the game. In short, QQ your ass back to Hello Kitty Online :)))

Exactly, I enjoy the gameplay. The sad thing is I can not stand the art. There is so much great Asian art out there, that I wonder why the Asiam developers always seem to go with the cookie cutter look that is so unappealing to me. Oh well, can't please them all. |
