Where do we go from here?

It also has some fairly major flaws. Most of them have to do with world size/design and content. Not much that can be done about that at this point. (More quests are coming as part of the 1.5 patch, but the game world isn't getting any new regions).

There are some problems not related to the core design as well.

The community is pretty bad at this point. No one talks in game and the Closed Beta seems to have attracted a high percentage of anti-social types. A minority, but a disruptive, grief prone minority.

The game also currently lacks any server options for people who would prefer to play the game for PvE, with PvP as an occasional aside. Combined with the high percentage of the anti-social types, this is probably the biggest threat to the success of Aion.

NCSoft made a point of noting the fact that you can level to the cap with out having to set foot in the Abyss, the main region for PvPvE. Obviously an attempt to placate the concerns of the majority of the MMORPG fan base that prefer to play on PvE servers. They fail to mention that most of the PvE zones can be reached by the other side via rifts, that you are not safe from PvP in your home zones and that a determined and organized group of griefers can shut down all questing and grinding for a wide level range for hours on end.

Unless some viable alternate server type is offered (like servers where PvP only occurs in the Abyss, etc...), the game will fall well short of it's potential in the US and Europe.

This is because it is a game centred around the 'Abyss' and PvP.  Good grief, go and play something else and stop attempting to dumb down this game for the ones who have been waiting a long time for it.

As for it falling short of its potential?  Dream on, this game will be huge for the real gamers amongst us.

Man this thread is getting worse and worse. On one hand we have blind fanboys like supbro who aren't doing the rest of us any good. On the other hand we have people who actually think that a large number of people are going to play Aion because it has flight. To quote you guy's, How fucking stupid can you get?.

Not like I'd expect any different though. These threads are just bait for these stupid things. Every now and then we get some good info out of them but most of the time it's just slinging mud at each other.

(welcome to the forums I guess, right? :P)

I don't think many people are going to buy the game just because you can fly in it.  I am going to buy it be cause of the high fantasy setting and its an Asian game that isn't F2P.  Hopefully this game and or FE will keep me busy till FFXIV comes out.

i've seen absolutely nothing impressive in this video. sure some nice graphics (time to upgrade your pc again?) but obviously it's just a manipulated piece of promotion. what have we seen really? fights in the asian style ... what a novelty with all those asian grind games out there. there is one thing i did notice though: that character had only one skill bar where i use 3 of those in Runes of Magic. any comparison with other games is inconclusive for the moment though because there's little to base it on until the release.

You would be surprised with how many people are trying and buying the game due to the fact of flying with wings. After all I was just being sarcastic to the OP with his stupid promotional video with 90% of it showing nothing but flying wings. He's gotta be your typical care bear that hasn't played more then 2-3 mmorpgs in his life. Next.

Yeah, there are people that try the game just because it has flying, and then when they find out they can't fly everywhere and forever (if they bothered researching they would know it's more of a combat mechanic than a means of transporation) they go and troll the game because of the flying restrictions, and also say NCSoft lied to them (funny one).

You fail at reading comprehension and logic. If you don't understand an issue, don't embarrass yourself with ignorant comments.

Maybe one plus, if Aion launches with out alternative server types, will be that most of the dregs of the MMORPG fan base will settle there and make every other title a better place to be as a result.

The current rule set will alienate and drive away the vast majority of customer base, once they experience and understand that the game is a griefers paradise. If NCSoft decides to launch this way, they will have no one else to blame but themselves when the retention numbers resemble those of AoC.

Since the topic of this thread is projecting the level of success of the title and discussing elements that will effect it's level of success, your PvP griefer's QQ post really has no place here. I'm sick of all the whining about how adding a care bear server type might lessen your griefing fun come launch. I know that the game will be a lot scarier for you if you are forced to play on a server full of PvPers and fellow griefers, rather than brimming with hapless victims, but get over it.

To me it looked like a bunch of ladyboy angels running around. Ha ha!

Aion has polish on its side, but I would imagine there are other 'westeners' out there like myself who do not like the 'mangaesque' look of the game.

I seriously do not enjoy a bunch of pale-looking male models in lace mingling with their coat-hanger female counterparts, holding oversized weapons, with wings. That pretty much sums up the novelties of Aion.

Having played the game, it was not bad, but I just can't get myself to like the look of this game. Also it looks much more like a grinder than the other 'current generation' titles. The reason why I spoke out so strongly is my guild is thinking of jumping ship to Aion. I love those people, they are great friends, but still I am not sure if I will 'migrate' to Aion.

I am not implying I am a real man. I play Sims 3 and other 'girly' games all the time. I just detest the 'manga' look. I do not know why. There is nothing wrong with feminine men at all, but if you can't make character with a little bit of meat on its bones, it puts me off.

NcSoft will never cave into the demands of small minority of PVE westerners. Please check your ignorance back at the door. When creating a vision like Aion the developers had purpose for the game and that was to interwine PVE and PvP mutually, with factions at war creating a conflict. PvP is the outcome of this conflict....The changes your asking for will never happen, you're a small minority and your cries will be swept under a rug as stated by NcSoft numerous times. I for one applaud Aion developers staying true to their marketed vision for the game.

In short, QQ your ass back to Hello Kitty Online :)))

Exactly, I enjoy the gameplay. The sad thing is I can not stand the art. There is so much great Asian art out there, that I wonder why the Asiam developers always seem to go with the cookie cutter look that is so unappealing to me. Oh well, can't please them all.

You are in the minority. Stop pretending you have numbers on your side. I'm perfectly happy with two seperate server types, but with all the whining from you "L33T PvPers" it's getting to the point where I'd be happy if the entire game went carebear.

We all know the truth. No one even tries to dispute it. You don't want two server types, because your EPeen is jonesing to grief PvE players; because you are too scared to play this game on servers where all the players are PvPers and fellow griefers.

Sorry for dropping to your level, but reason and respect are lost on you and your ilk. 90% of the whining over this game is griefers crying about "carebears" wanting to play on their own servers. Boo hoo.

So wait, we're back to the "waah they won't make other types of servers" posts now? This truly is cyclic in nature, isn't it?

No one talks in game and the Closed Beta seems to have attracted a high percentage of anti-social types. A minority, but a disruptive, grief prone minority.

You realize global channels are currently OFF right? And I had plenty of people talk to me, and grouped with plenty of people. Perhaps it is you that is being antisocial? Most people aren't going to just walk up to you and start talking, perhaps take the initiative? I actually chatted with a good number of people who were just sitting around dueling, and not just passing words but just chilling around talking for 15-20 minutes.

No one talking in beta is because they disable /region chat.... come on be real...

In beta, you can create toons on both realms, so they disable chat function...

No, I talk. I group. I buff. I don't Kill steal. A lot of the people I grouped with agreed it was wierd how few people would respond if you tried to talk or offer a group. Funny thing is that maybe 90% of the people will run away if you even say hello to them.

Also, don't confuse non-social with anti-social. The non-social people don't talk or group. The anti-social people talk smack, kill steal, pull mobs onto other players and generally cause grief. I've never seen as many of these people in a beta community in my many years experience with many titles. Even the L2 beta was better than the Aion beta in this regard, which I think is just a testament to the downward spiral the MMORPG community has been in since WoW popularized it and lowered the over all maturity level.

Ironically a lot of these people who were spawned by WoW now trash the game that drew their sorry asses to the genre. A lot of old school MMORPG players have no love lost for WoW, but it usually the ones who make a point at deriding WoW at every chance that are the ones who are the actual "children of WoW"; the people who are dumbing down the entire genre.

Did we play the same game? I mean, really, I ran into none of that when I played. I didn't have people kill steal my mobs, I heard a little bit of smack talk (but who doesn't love that? It's fun) and I didn't see any "griefing", unless you happen to include PvP under griefing.

Really it honest to god sounds like we were playing a different game. I'm not going to say that any community isn't devoid of it's rejects but I did not come into contact with any through the few beta events I have been in so far. (Playing Asmodian side).
