Because its for the real fans?

Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf

They have a seriously small subscriber base compared to other games and really need the money.

Fans in other threads have suggested you don't "try" DF you "invest" in DF.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.

Because few people play it so they need to have money back they spent on making it ?

How is $49 expensive? That's the normal price for a newer game, its been out only a few months with NA release a little over a week ago. If you want to see expensive look at MO :P.

-Currently playing SWTOR.
-Played UO, EQ, Aion, AoC, WOW, War, LoTRO, FFXI, Rift, DFO.

The game is overpriced for what it is. Should be 29.99 but the above poster is right about MO. MO better lick butter from my sack for what they are charging for it.

Because they need to pay for good reviews and for ppl to advertise their game on the forums

Trolls = Hardcore
Fanbois = Carebears

The only posts I read in threads are my own.

It's been over 5 months...

It's also only a Direct Download game... not a boxed, in the store DvD.  Are those usually 49.99 after 5 months as well?

I think that is where he was getting at that it's expensive.

They are charging in the store, boxed price... when it's download only.  There are no distribution costs for them... so they shouldn't try to shaft their customers so much.

I have no idea what debts that have, what assets, what overhead, none.  I do know there's no business plan for the way they've released the game. It doesn't really matter anyway. All that matters is how much the game is worth to you. If the price is too much don't pay it.

Because AV is a scam and is trying to dupe you of your money.

If your going to rob people you just as well grab all you can, risk is the same, steal a little or steal a lot.

Not exactly, Eve, WoW, almost every MMO is that price up to about 6 month's after release normally. This goes for any game that comes out, not just MMO's. If they flop sometimes sooner, but not usually.

I'm not poor it is just that the money could go towards a good Friday night and I might have more fun there then in the game and because of the many mixed reviews, it's extremly hard who to believe.

Money in politics is the root of all political evil. It is corruption at it's worst.

What are you talking about? I bought both AoC and WAR, about 4-5 months after release, for less than $40.

$50 is expensive for a digital download that is over 5 months old. Specially since you get only only 1 character per account.

As for most things in life, dont look at either extremes but rather in the middle. In other words dont look at eurogamer review and dont look at those obscure german sites giving it 7+ ratings.

MMORPG.COMs review is somewhere in the middle and imo spot on.

The reason it is "so expensive" is because of the 19% VAT (an EU tax). € 49 is a very normal price for games in Europe so buying Darkfall was no different for me than with any other game.

But I would assume this tax does not apply to an US account.

Aventurine was smart, gotta give 'em that. Going digital download only not only let them artificially control sales of the game, but also allows them to artificially control the price.

Had Darkfall been made available like other games in boxes, you wouldn't be paying $50 for a copy. You'd be buying them off Amazon.com for $9.99 or  less just like what happened with AoC after launch, Tabula Rasa,and others.

Actually AV are not smart at all. It's just that Tacos is stubborn and still believes he can own the mmo market with  lies and marketing tricks. The specific trick he pulled out now is one of the oldest: he created a pseudo feeling of high demand with his "controlled" "purchase" button coming on and off randomly.

He did that for what? couple months? He then let the button on and all that steam built end up in sales. Pointless sales ofcourse, because after another month everyone was quitting in disgust.

Tacos is an idiot, because he had his target group all ready and waiting, all he had to do was to make a semi decent product, to create a surprisingly "big" client base. He had 8 years to do that. Don't you forget that duration: 8 years is not o be taken lightly. He should have presented something that was at least a complete product. He fails again, because basically he is just a lier. I seriously doubt he was doing anything that 8 years time. His game is no more than 6months old in programming, at least thats how it looks like.

You can't lie forever...
