If it happens anytime within 1,5 years of launch, you'll be potentially losing money.

How can you lose money after 1,5 years? Average MMO cost is 14,99$ X 18 months = 269.82$, on the other way 199.99$ / 14.99$ = 13.34 months, so as soon as you paid for a little over a year, your ok. It is not because they have some MT that they will go free to play. We all know that your pissed and won't get over it about that, but it is time you let go and stop hi-jacking every CO thread you see.

Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!

This is the final nail in Champions Online's coffin.

I remember seeing the lifetime subscription offer for Hellgate London and immediately being suspicious. That's a bet on their part that you'll get bored enough to want to stop subscribing before you otherwise would have paid that much in subscriptions, i.e. our game is worth less than what we're charging you.

And what happened to Hellgate London??

How much did that lifetime subscription turn out to be worth?

The only other mmo I know that's done this is LOTRO - it seemed like they desperately needed an injection of cash.

And exactly what is the value of a lifetime subscription for an mmo that has a freaking shopping mall?!?!

Pay $200 now and then have a whole bunch of stuff added to the mall?

I think someone needs to crack a window in the fish bowl....

I hope it is true that this is the final nail for you, we are all tired of your rant, now move along nothing to see here.

To your knowledge, there is a diference between MT and item mall not shopping mall btw.

I pre-ordered and will wait to try it on the 17th before making any final decision on whether I'll get the lifetime sub.  That being said, I played CoX for 4 years, a lifetime sub would have been great.

Thats actually part of the problem.  You just don't know.  My wife will tell me I can't play any other MMO's until a year and a half go by.  ( We have an agreement I am only allowed to play 1 MMO.)  I only play good ones and right now I am playing WAR until CO  comes out.

Beta still has its problems.  Not everything is worked out yet.  You do get a good idea of what the game will be like.

Everyone who pre-ordered will know if this is godo or not before it goes retail.  Anyone else who wants to will also get into open beta.   So anyone who might be interested in lifetime sub can easily find out if it is worth it.

I assume that at least those who pre-ordered willk always have the option to purchase a lifetime sub.

You should actually say Flagship Studios + Hellgate London + Special pre-order offer for lifetime subscription = FAIL

Cryptic Studios + Champions Online + Special pre-order offer for lifetime subscription = Probably a Success

You seem to want to link Bill Roper's name to Champions Online as if he created the game, but you fail to acknowledge that he has been with Cryptic Studios for less than a year and that this is a game that has been in development by Cryptic Studios, the same people that released a "successful" MMO called City of Heroes long before Bill Roper ever touched CO.

CO is far better of an mmo than hellgate O_O

I really would have thought so, but that's not the message that a limited lifetime subscription offer sends, especially one announced so close to release.

It says "pre-orders are low".

It says "we were expecting to make a certain amount of money from box sales, but don't think we will, so please gamble $200 on a buy-before-you-try deal".

I don't have anything against lifetime subscriptions - there are a few mmos I've played where I absolutely would have shelled out the money for them and I would have done that after just a few weeks of playing. But those mmos never offered lifetime subscriptions because it wasn't in their best financial interests - because the games were good and knew they'd make more money just with monthly subscriptions.

And if CO was the game I was expecting it to be (eg. minus MTs) I'd be tempted by this offer, but still cautious. The game I was expecting it to be wouldn't have needed to do this. So I wouldn't shell out that much money until I'd had some chance to play it.

And with MTs - in my mind it completely devalues the offer. They can sting you for $200 now and then still add a whole bunch of stuff to the mall.

War pretty much is slightly above the standard.  With WoW and CoH type games being standard.  Personally I give AoC the best so far (Even though the game sucked).
