If someone comes here and says they are happy with a game why must these vampires come along and try to ruins it?
I honestly dont understand what they want, if the guy thinks this is a great game and is having fun let him, if you dont like it move along, just stop being so damn arrogant and let people have different opinions than yours. This is indeed a great game, and im sure we will have loads of fun playing it, let them stay here bitching about this and other games in the meanwhile... |

That is the design of the game. Is not lack of polish, but intended. Is not in any "TODO" list. Is done. But you may not like it. Then the word here is "I dislike it", and not "It lack polish". |

So, from what I can gather, don't play this game because you can't swim.
You're right. I can't recall how many countless hours I spent swimming in other MMO's and how much I enjoyed quests that involved swimming! /sarcasm |

The linear path you have to take to level via quest is worse than WoW and forget grinding MOB's - I do not do that anymore in MMORPG's - that is worse than getting a root canal. It is a grind when it takes for frakking ever to kill a mob - a simple mob. A grind is a grind. I can't imagine what it will be like to get to 50! Forget it. Been there and done that in L2. Each side has one starter area. One! OMG. Seriosuly flawed imbalances to classes, also - like Rangers. OMG can the Ranger class be designed worse than this? I do not think so. Forgive me for thinking this, but seriously. Does anyone honestly think the classes are balanced in this game? Cleric's, I truly feel for them. Those first 20 levels are a bitch. Forget soloing. Best find a Templar and stick to them like glue. This game needs some serious class balancing. Don't get me talking about the gimmicky wings they added. Why give players wings with such limited use? Seriously. Can anyone answer me this? What purpose does it serve? Abyss is the only place for good PvP. That will get old. Fighting in the same zone, night after night. ::shakes her head:: Even we that played Planetside had more maps to choose from. If I wished to fight for the same zone over and over again I'll play BF2 Strike at Karkand. At least it is fun. A prediction. 3 months max after release people will be bitching about the lameness of this game and how poorly it was designed. Just like they did for AoC, WAR and DFO. ^_^ My opinion. whoa there, cowboy! I'm a level 16 Cleric and having a blast. I cannot say it's taken me that long to level, either. I think the game is unique and has kept me addictively playing since my early days of EQ, no other game since, has made me feel this way. I agree that the Scout is a tough class to play, as for the wings, I love it.
For all those who are enjoying it, great, glad to be on board. |

Originally posted by Teiman Your are correct. This game is more polished right now than anything that has been released in the last too years. I personally could care less what the trolls have to say as i have found an MMO home in this game. So you MMO elitists keep waiting for whatever it is you think an MMO should be i will be playing Aion. After my third beta i have seen some group stuff and have joined a guild. Next stop, the Abyss :) It has to be true, i have internet links. |

No swimming? Forget it. If I can't go swimming in my virtual world, I won't play!

One word? SAFARI. This is the first game since Anarchy Online and AC2 where I've needed a team for outdoor questing and hunting and we've still managed to wipe now and then. The main thing I hate about modern MMOs is how I find myself mostly soloing except underground or in instances. There have been exceptions. Jintha'Alor in WoW's Hinterlands, some of the orc camps in EQ2. I've grown so tired of having to choose between instances and solo play, and then not being able to team with people because of level differences or quest chains. Something about Aion makes that stuff (so far) not matter too much. I off-healed for a much higher level group, we weren't all on the same quest, no one gave a shit - probably in large part because for once the ordinary outdoor fare is actually challenging and dangerous. There are a lot of things that aren't up my alley about this game, but I'm sold on it. If I want to play with just my friends, I've got Left 4 Dead and Starcraft for that. When I play an MMO, I want to play with everyone, and thus far that's very much the flavor of this game. einexile the meek |

WoW has taught you that all PvP should be in a shoe box and an instanced honor/arena rating grind, you have learned to except this failure of meaningless entertainment. WoW's community is the worse in any game i have ever played and you are a part of "that" - all the pieces of this puzzle are falling together :))) I mean when the trolls need to resort to not being able to swim as their best case for not playing Aion, you know the game is in amazing shape. Don't let me tell how good Aion is, just ask the 3.5 million+ people that are playing in asia after only 8 months ... success breeds haters, Aion is a success.
Simple question for you to ponder..... would you rather eat?
Mcdonalds?
Or the lobster....?

Well, your theory seems a bit flawed. Im not saying that they dont have right to express their opinion, what i am saying is that someone came to the forum to say they were enjoying the game, and he never said that the other people should also enjoy it, but the responses he got was from people saying that he was mistaken in liking the game. Fact is, the OP never tried to make others think like him, neither did I, but all the trolls on this thread are certainly trying to make those who enjoy it stop liking the game. |

Have played in 2 closed beta weekends so far and the game is great. Levelling with a chanter has been easy and fun and I have not heard too many complaints on the other classes. It is much more important the classes are balanced towards the endgame for pvp rather than levelling. The quests are pretty standard cookie cutter quests but some have neat cutscenes and some are a little different. All pretty standard but more than acceptable. Some outdoor quests starting at around lvl 17 for me required a group which I actually enjoyed very much as I enjoy being in groups. I am not concerned about not being able to swim (I can fly, I don't need to swim :D). The flying and especially the gliding is a lot of fun at least for me. Catching a nice downhill slope allows you to glide pretty far much faster than walking and it is great fun to try and see how far you can get. The graphics have been great so far. While some textures are a little blurry (I was unable to set them to "very high" setting so I am unsure if they are limited in the beta) they are no worse than those found in WoW. The animations, effects, creature and character models and art style are all great. The most impressive thing about the game technically is its performance. I was walking around an area with literally a hundred people in the same place and experienced very little slowdown which was absolutely amazing. Crafting was pretty standard but I actually enjoyed it a lot. As I understand you can pick up all of the crafting skills and level them up quite a bit but you can only max out one. You do not need to grind materials to craft as you can pick up work orders and use provided and store-bought materials to complete them and be rewarded with exp and a random reward (which can sometimes be a new recipe). The crafted items were also pretty useful; the buff food and potions make a lot of difference during combat. Much of the game will depend on the quality, variety and sheer fun of the endgame content. At its worst the game will provide me with at least 1 or 2 months of distraction getting my character to the max level, maxing crafting and doing some rvr. That in itself for a cost of around 60 euros total is pretty good value for money so if the game keeps me busy any longer than that then that is just a bonus. All in all, I would definitely recommend this game based on what I have seen from the lower level gameplay. |

This analogy has failed for a long time now .... both cost the same. This makes a person's choice based purely on what they find to be the most fun. Where as choosing lobster or a burger is more so based on price. Sure, tons of people eat at McDonalds and play WoW ... that is where the similarities end. That being said ... I'll be having your so called lobster which is more like a burger from BK. Same price, different taste. |

This entire post is mostly exaggeration or outright fiction, with only a smattering of fact. The game is far from perfect and open to criticism, but posts like that offer nothing to the debate. |

I'm not saying don't criticize the game. But if Granola Girl and people like her are going to troll on for days about a non winnable argument (arguing what is enjoyable for other people besides her), then it's kind of redundant and silly. |
|

The main arguments I've still seen against the game are by large and far from people trying to make the game something it isn't intended to be. This isn't intended to be this huge epic world full of RP possibilities. This is a game, and it's a game based off of a PvP (or a PvPvE) struggle. The people looking forward to this game don't care if we can't swim, because we don't want to. We look forward to the PvP (or the PvE for some players) the game is offering. We look forward to the polish the game has. Most people here seem to want the game to be something it isn't, which is strange. It's like if someone looked at TF2 and proclaimed loudly that "it should be more realistic". They'd proclaim that rocket jumping is unnatural. They'd say that they should be able to prone, because it is ruining the immersion in their game. They should have to use iron sights to shoot and shouldn't be able to "sprint" everywhere. Wouldn't that look really ridiculous when it's obvious TF2's intentions are nothing like that? Aion might be considered the "TF2" of MMOs. What you people are looking for is more along the lines of the "Arma II" or "America's Army" of MMOs. If you're going to attack a game attack it on the premise of what it is meant to be, not what you want it to be. It is a perfectly valid complaint to say "I think the early levels in the game should be more interesting in order to draw a player into the world more". It's valid to attack a game based on it's performance (I've done so in the past with games such of Age of Conan because they were bad, especially due to performance issues and bugs.). However do stop trying to find all these faults in the game which are more of just what you want from your own personal wish list. And Teala, you seem to be mistaken on what "polish" means. I'd brush up your understanding on the word (maybe check out an online dictionary). :P Oh and Supbro, that whole fast food argument (just like the music argument) is really poor :>. I've always hated hearing it.

It is an extremely linear forced PvE grind with some rather well thought out but optional PvP endgame slapped on. If you're looking for the classic streamlined EQ mmo experience with amazing technical polish worthy of the "next gen" label then look no further. On the other hand it is extremely orthodox in its approach to leveling (a lengthy linear PvE only thing) and PvP (relatively harsh death penalties, viable only at endgame). This might appeal to some and repulse the others. Personally I am repulsed but I can understand how some might be happy with it. To each his own. |

Actually you're completly wrong as usual. WAR's entire endgame revolves around having to PVE to advance, having to run PVE instances for gear upgrades to invade the city - then farm PQs to sack the city. A huge failure in "PvP" endgame design. Aion Gives you Wings!!! |

Originally posted by supbro You can level to 40/80 without killing ANY mobs. For a lot of people that IS end game. You're right about the PvE aspects of RvR end game, but just as many people don't raid in WoW, some don't do the city sieges. Mainly because they stink. You don't HAVE to kill a single mob to reach max level. Period. |
