Hi all, Well first of all I'm a long time MMO player. Started EQ in 2000, went to EQ2 when it launched and those have been my main two since I left EQ2 a couple years ago as the population dwindled a bit. I've tried numerous others, Anarchy online at launch (ouch), WoW (Too cartoony), LoTRO (ok but too linear), Warhammer Online (just couldn't get into it), Vanguard (ok, but too much like other games), EVE (good community but I want to have a humanoid-ish mobile avatar), DAoC (was ok). Lately I've been into more stuff like Planetside, CoD4 and other FPS online games. I know I'll never get back to the original Everquest's heyday and magic, and I'm wondering if I'm just burnt out on MMO's. If I really want to play an MMO I find myself heading back to EQ or EQ2 but I burn myself out after a couple months. Great game IMO but the population discourages me. What I'm really looking for is a good community (13 year old punks dont bother me too bad as long as they are not the majority), an immersive environment, decent population, more of a sandbox type, and no more "go kill 10 rats and come back" for 50 levels but maybe the first few are ok. I love exploring and grouping..... Is this just "pie in the sky" for me? Is there anything like this now or coming soon? Am I just too old for mmorpg's (over 30 now)? Seriously I still think original EQ is the best thing out there, even with the dated graphics. Help?!?!? Started MMO's with EQ Velious, played EQ2, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG (pre NGE). Played briefly cause I didn't like: WAR, WoW, VG, etc. etc. |

Actuallly earthrise has been on my radar, so is Mortal Online, might try DDO when it goes f2p also....dunno though, I'm pretty cynical atm. Started MMO's with EQ Velious, played EQ2, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG (pre NGE). Played briefly cause I didn't like: WAR, WoW, VG, etc. etc. |

Play FFXI...has much of what you desire; especially the excellent community, and there are no kill X# of mobs quests over and over! Has an enourmous world to explore which is very dangerous and exciting when you able to roam further...etc Stop by our LS forums, and check us out and the many links to FFXI! |

What's the population like in FF? Are groups difficult to find? Started MMO's with EQ Velious, played EQ2, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG (pre NGE). Played briefly cause I didn't like: WAR, WoW, VG, etc. etc. |

just play planetside, its free this month |

Considering that FFXI has been in the top 5 most popular and active MMOs for the past 7 yrs its doing very well. Finding groups is easy now with Level Sync...although u will solo sometimes, grouping is mandatory for most the game for the best xp and missions, and many quests!
Give it a try...it really is what you're looking for, but a forwarning this is not an easy-mode-adventure like everything else! |

Yeah actually I have been back on Planetside already this month. While enjoyable, it just isnt the MMO experience I'm looking for. And BTW I play it on Vista lol, I dunno why people have so many problems with it. Started MMO's with EQ Velious, played EQ2, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG (pre NGE). Played briefly cause I didn't like: WAR, WoW, VG, etc. etc. |

easy-mode is not what I'm looking for anyway...so I'll look deeper into FF then...do they have a free trial? Started MMO's with EQ Velious, played EQ2, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG (pre NGE). Played briefly cause I didn't like: WAR, WoW, VG, etc. etc. |

Originally posted by Whibbo They can be,grouping has always been a hit an miss thing. What makes it worse is games or in this case FFXI further trying to appease soloers. This makes for less and less players to group with,it really has a negative effect on gaming. Most players in FFXI are bored,so they have made tons of alts or are filling in the jobs they did not think they would ever play. This means you may encounter a lot of impatient vets, who don't like to party with new players[no sub job],unless they feel you are a must have ,like a tank. Best thing to do in FFXI is get some friends, start a friends list early on ,you will need the help of others sooner than you think. If you can find 1 or 2 others that are willing to stick together and level with you al lthe time, then you can eventually form a full static or 4/5 anyhow ,that can really make the game more enjoyable.

oops NM...I found a place to download...will be trying FF Anyway...more suggestions for games? Started MMO's with EQ Velious, played EQ2, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG (pre NGE). Played briefly cause I didn't like: WAR, WoW, VG, etc. etc. |

Do you even play FFXI anymore or at all Wizardy, cause everything you just said is pretty much false! There is also no reason to form a static group either with level sync! It is however great to have friends to play with as with any MMO.... |

Personally I'd wait for FF14. FFXI is old, and especially at start not up to today's MMO standards. It's not like FF14 is that far ahead anyway. |
