this game should go F2P, not worthy of a monthly sub |

I think the core of the issue here is the older gamers and the newer gamers. I consider myself an older gamer, I'm 31, I've played D&D for 20 years, and I started MMO with Velious Everquest in 2001. I found myself just too tired of the grinding and stuff in this genre now without really adding anything innovative. First thing I noticed about Aion is it was hard to block gold spammers. That immediately got on my nerves as I tried to figure out how to block someone and eventually just turned channel chat off. MMO games today should be a bit more intuitive about chat functions. After I get that set up I notice its just the same "click the npc with the arrow over its head, go kill these mobs, turn in". Nothing new here, same boring and mindless quest method since WOW. So I kill some stuff with my gladiator and its ok, but nothing special. The world is very linear, I am moved from one area to another at set times, exploring isnt that fun of a feeling. Finally I get my wings and I notice that flying is a big dissapointment. I expected flying to be like Perfect World, unlimited flying time and open(anywhere just about). Flying in Aion is so short term and restricted its not even fun, it's just aggravating to me. So then I mindlessly grind(with the help of kill X mob quests of course) to level 20+ and it doesn't change any. I'm still being forced into certain areas at certain times, the combat is bland, flying is dissappointing, leveling is tedious, the camera angles are not up to par, the females aren't sexy enough, roleplaying is nonexistent, the music is a joke(sounds like Mario Kart or something idk), the gear refining upgrading is boring and too simplistic, and DP takes way too long to build up. Basically it's a JAAG(Just Another Asian Grinder). It's polished and has hype so it will get some subs, but it's not what I am looking for. I joined this board because most of the people here feel the same way that I do about MMO now, so the fans can hype it as much as they want, but at the end of the day it is what it is...a JAAG. |

To be quite honest, most of the reasons people are complaining about this game are EXACTLY why i cant wait to play. |

For does of you who said Aion is boring, same old same old, or any other statements like this, after 20 lvl's .. just don't play it. In few months I will be ENJOYING those bosses and areas, ( www.aionsource.com/forum/news-announcements/31079-aions-official-patch-1-5-trailer.html ) while you will KEEP looking for the "perfect" gameplay in whatever game you may like. For the ones who want to try out Aion, just play the beta to 20 lvl only. Since in BETA , players rarely do party's for normal quests, mission quests, bosses, raids, pvp and so on ( yes, this is a MMORPG where you interact with other players for such actions ). You don't know what you are missing if you listen do those .. "reviews". Also don't forget about crafting which will give a + to the fun ( for does who may like it ) in the game. FUN, that's all we want, so try it out by yourself. |

I keep seeing both sides of the argument here, but the FINAL IRREFUTABLE FACT is simply this: It's a preview weekend, you're not supposed to play it all hardcore and crap. Get bored? Stop playing, your characters are gone anyway. To elaborate: It's a PREVIEW weekend and you are not keeping your characters. NCsoft west isn't running this thing very intelligently since they don't even have 1.2 active which puts in something like 1000 more quests from 20 onward. I haven't had any problem doing group content, but then again I have friends that I play with. If I get bored I just log off. I'm not going to stand around like some spoiled little brat expecting a company to cater to my every whim just because I gave them fifty bucks. We don't get to keep these characters folks and I really don't understand why you would spend so much time on them. We're playing the base version of the client and it is WELL known that post 20 becomes a grind, which is why in 1.2 they added a ridiculous amount of quests. We'll be getting -1.5- at release, maybe sooner. The Asian market complained about the grind and that's why the quests were added, so stop with the fucking stereotyping because it's getting old. The market over there has changed, get with the freaking times. If you just straight up don't like Aion then don't play, no one is going to twist your arm. People need to stop taking personal offense to stuff they don't like, if you don't like something then come up with a logical, clear thought and then tell people - 'This is why -I- don't like it, but for those that like x and y features it may be something to look into.' NCsoft hasn't hyped up Aion to be anything more than it is. If players are then it's not like you can blame the company for that. I have seen far more misleading adverts for Eve Online than I have for Aion and yet no one bitches about that. |

This is interesting thread for me i've done to reading every single post. Before talk about what i thought, i've been playing Aion for 8months after launched in Korea and I'm Korean so may my english could be bad, don't flame on it please :)
I think some peoples who blaming about Aion's suckness in here, they are missing biggest point of MMORPG genre i guess. Games are supposed to be fun yes. But each genre have their main fun sauce imho. What do you expect on single player games and RTS, FPS genre games? Then MMORPGs? MMORPG is all about realistic cyber community and gameplay between lots of peoples and ingame economy, activities, encounters between Players(NOT AI) and making their own factions against other race's specific Legion(guild) or players even you may be on opposite side against some specific guild in your races.
These things about making factions and fighting against, establishing your honor or notorious, dreadful name in community is one of funniest sauce in MMORPG genre i think. I can say without a doubt, Aion have tons of Group encounters about PvE, PvP and benefits on it, especially over 25levels, theres lots of upcoming diverse group PvE encounters, PvP encounters. All kinds of these things can't be started from lvl 1 and gained for everyone from start. There should be difference of gained contents and benefits for each players if you aren't in communism.
In MMO who payed more time and more practices on it, should have better reputation and honor, or notorious name by their effort and chosing their way. If you can do everything from level1 and having all fun from starts where's the reason for playing mmorpgs?
Exactly everything in your life gonna be get bored someday but there's something eternal and worth to have that feelable remaining your honor, wealth thing (uh i can't explain well on english) it's same on mmogames. Reputation or your wealth, etc . DAMN HARD TO EXPLAIN...-_-
So what i wanted to talk about finally is FPS/RTS type's game give instant fun, and it goes off instantly when game is done(WAR is in similar situation i think..) but MMORPG's fun comes slower and it remain longer and you gaining something real benefit by your played time and your reputation, community works.
So time sinking and no fun from lvl1 in MMO is unremovable reason i think. If you want every fun stuffs from lvl 1 and don't want to pay your due, go play FPS/RTS or WAR it give you quick fun, and quick ends. Or wait until your dreams come true mmo comes out (you've got to make one, its pretty hard^^) |

The Elder testers (who were subject to their own NDA which lasted past release) got to see it, but weren't allowed to talk about it. Now we know why. My point is that if the beta is set up to prevent some content from being seen - there is usually a good reason for it. It is likely garbage. Less time in PvP means less chance to find flaws. Beta testers are guinea pigs - being tested, rather than doing testing. Fact is, Korea only let players get to 30 in the beta. After release, the game sold like hotcakes, then went to china and sold like hotcakes. The reviews, previews, and impressions/gameplaystreams, AND westerners who have played the eastern client say that PVP rocks. Bias aside, Most people who found the PVP aspect to their taste have liked it. Enough of a like for it to be over 3 million subs. So I don't think they are hiding anything when just about every aspect of it is common knowlege except for "First hand experience" Gameplay in this game has it's ups and down's like every other on the market. But it is safe to say the game doesn't have enough negatives aspects to half to "Hide certain features", just to keep people interested. Have you ever thought that maybe a majority of the text based content is located in the earlier levels where they want to make absolutely sure it is as polished as possible so they do make a good first impression? The game is already polished and all that is being done in the west is translation. I would try to concentrate all of my last minute corrections and polishing to be for the low end content because that is where everyone starts! Would you prefer it if players tested the translaions that players will be LAST to get to after launch? Or make sure the "Begginning" is perfect so you still have time to nit pick at the end because it will still take people weeks to get there. Some people only talk sh!t online. I'll talk sh!t online and i'll say it to your face. |

I bought this game preorder on Steam... starting to regret it a little now. I guess I woudl always want to try it out, but the level 1-10 thing is deeply irritating - what a pointless waste of time for anyone who ever played a game before. They should cut out 1-10 entirely - or at the very least, only require an account to play it once. It is thoroughly boring. Can't comment on 10-20, but wondering around at level 10, it seemed there were interesting things to see and do - you get flight for a start, , can go to a capital city etc. BUt this whole idea that you have to climb some deeply tedious levels to get the real game is way past it's time. Grr - the only reason I am playing this is because WAR was such a flop, and I need my MMO fix. Plus, I hope it will be an enteratining game later on. |

Its called paying your dues, and almost everything in life requires you to do it, not just games. You could also look at it as the time you spend learning how to play your character effectively. 20 levels isn't much of a price to pay if the game really picks up from there, and you are supposed to actually enjoy learning to play your character, learning the lore, and questing a bit.
Bwahahahahaha! Oh wait, you were serious? (of course I was serious, but you were drunk?) The paying your dues bit has already been effectively torpedoed earlier in the thread, so I won't rehash that. (Good thing, as I won that argument) As for the learning to play your character bit, that gave me a chuckle. I suppose it applies if Aion is your first MMORPG. (It is for some folks you know) However, those of us who have been playing for awhile (sigh, I've been gaming longer than you are old) knew how to play our characters effectively before we ever logged in to the beta because the game does absolutely nothing unique in terms of mechanics. (does it have to?) Sure it may take you half an hour to get used to the names of the spells, but learning to play your character? (nonsense, you learn new spells ever few levels, and each changes your combat tactics slightly. pretty standard MMO fare I'll grant, but still sort of fun for a while) Lol, give me a break, I've been playing versions of this game for ten years. I got to 20 without dying once, hell I probably never even got below half health, (well, if you take no chances sure, you won't, but thats not how I roll) and I also never talked to another player character. (not my fault if you lack communication skills, as evidenced by your reply here, but I had a priest buff me today and we chatted a short bit) Class-based MMORPGs do not require any skill to play, monkeys can be trained to press buttons in sequence and keep an eye on a health bar. (WOW player for sure, its shows) PVP of course changes that dynamic a bit, but again, why doesn't it start from level 1 instead of making people rehash the same tired bullshit for 20 levels? (hey, if you don't like it, don't play) In any event, I'm not bashing Aion lovers, I was merely agreeing with the OP, and at this point, if Aion is the best that the industry can do, I really think I've had my fill of MMORPGs. (sounds like that might be true in your case, maybe you should be playing Darkfall?)

Having saying that , your reply proves exactly what a MMO player should know before playing a MMO game ( especially Aion ). Thanks for posting in this forum and your posts are much appreciated ( by me atleast ) :) .

Ok, so do you REALLY want to say that Aion does NOT have enough content and that you are currently playing Runes oF Magic? Your place don't belong here, go back to your cave :) |

Double post sorry i thought editing alot after posting was done wasn't seemed like good manner in NA community(its common in Korean community though..i'm used to it) Some guys were talking about getting bored on 20lvls already. You shouldn't forget about THAT mmorpg is all about community and group works NOT like instantish FPS/RTS. But you are in state of instant testing mode called as Beta Test. So no one trying to setup their community or group plays in this moment surely. It supposed to wiped away in few weeks, no reason to input their MMO works. So talking about MMORPG's suckness in MMORPG's instant testing period is contradiction i think. Again, since mmo genre is all about 'Playing continueing, progressing game between lots of players. you'll have some solo contents but you've got to grow up like real life in mmo it'll be boring and not fun sometimes, but as you get some friends and enemies and fight against them then win or lose, you practice more and someday will win There's YOUR OWN STORY, and history" MMO requiring paying your due and time sinking is generic and unremoval. No instant gameplay give things like it in mmos. |

I gave it another go but it got that boring I found myself falling asleep. I know this is just beta, but you get a good idea of where the game is going. Luckily I was able to cancel my pre-order. Lovely game and very polished but boring as hell to play. |

If you think you "won" the argument then you also think masterbating is equivalent to sex. Maybe, and I've certainly got no doubt that if you played the genre for so long that you could want something a bit more. I'm not as old as a gamer as you are (I'll turn 21 in a number of weeks) but I've played video games since I was 2, and while I didn't jump on board MMOs for a while I did play a lot of UO over at a friends house and I (sigh) played runescape when I was like 12. (back when it was "classic"). Aion really isn't just another asian grinder, for one you have enough quests to get yourself through the levels fine -- especially if you kill along the way (which you should). However for most of the people looking so forward to Aion we're looking forward to the games PvP, which is promising to be great. Ok, some of it isn't new (although Aion certainly has new ideas in it) but there is just so much that PvP fans have been waiting for and that hasn't gotten delivered by the last few games that have been released. I understand that some people are looking for something that is more in depth though, and that is more of a world than it is a game. Maybe it is a generation difference (I didn't play a ton of everquest or UO like I said, although I did play Anarchy Online for a good while.) but I really think it is just preferences. I know some gamers who have been playing MMOs for the longest of time who are looking forward to Aion since it promises to be good.
Meh, I don't like the comparison to "just another asian grinder" though, because it isn't. Compare it to WoW if you want in leveling but not the multitude of f2p korean games.

I didn't know people had an obligation to type out essays when stating their own opinions.
If we're going with that then I request an essay from you on why you believe posters should write essays qualifying their own subjectve opinions. Because if you don't, then it's pretty clear that your post itself was still pretty much a complete waste of time as it offered nothing for someone to digest. Articulate moar. Now when the game launches your reward will be getting to level another (or two) characters (1 per side) up to level 25 where the game gets "good" again and again!!" Want to roll an alt?
