Is there any crafting, or is it mostly just adorning weapons and gear? Lanuit & Moonlightmist on Ryzom (Arispotle) and EQ2 (Lucan D'Lere) |

I've never had a funner time cooking food in a videogame. They also got a bunch of rooms for crafting armors, consumables, cloth, weps. ect. Some people only talk sh!t online. I'll talk sh!t online and i'll say it to your face. |

Crafting is very rewarding in AION. |

from what ive seen crafting crits linked on sites that show what you can make in game are among the very best items, and they have armors weapons and all wearable slots. the crafted gear all seems to have sockets for gems as well, i would think you craft the gems that go in but im no where near sure on that, and as that other person said you can make food and all kinds of other consumable goodies. one of the downfalls of war on top of crappy pve for when you didnt feel like pvping was the lack of any meaningfull crafting. |

Note: My experience has been to level 20 on several toons in the chinese beta and the na beta.
If you like crafting stuff like armor and weapons crafting is totally useless levels 1-20. Food and alchemy are modestly useful in the early game. My understanding of the endgame is that pvp gear beats all including crafted gear, it seems crafted gear is most beneficial 30-49 but if it is worthwile remains to be seen. Getting crafting to the second tier is very grindy also. |

Crafting is available. However, sadly it's not really crafting (as in, you have to actually focus and put effort in, in RL) ..but it's not a clickfest either. Basically, if you have alot of cash in game that's all you need to progress. You stand in front of equipment and tell it how much to produce of a certain item, then you just watch the animations as it does so. You can also do crafting quests to skill up if you don't want to produce useable items, but want to gain experience. The process is very boring and lackluster. I would say that the crafting part of the game is a serious disappointment for those of us that actually like to craft. It's not about skill at all, but rather more like...I need some dinner, let me set myself up to craft while I do that. I can't say this continues at the high end of the game as I have not gotten that far yet, but I imagine it's the same throughout. Harvesting is something everyone can do as they are out and about. The goods you harvest never move (they spawn in the same spots), though the rare of that type of item might show up instead. You will need alot of harvested goods to create items. So if you arent into the "watch yourself craft" style, and don't mind harvesting, then grab them as you fight. They will sell well to those leveling crafting. Remember though, you have to level up your harvesting skill, so be sure and harvest regularly if you want to collect the higher end mats. I can say that the items produced in crafting do have value and the merchanting side of the game is very active. Their auction house is horrible to use, but the Pshops do very well for sellilng the goods. |

Gathering and crafting system needs work in my opion. |

Crafting feels like an in-game "job", but is rewarding even if you don't use the stuff yourself and just want to sell it. You can theorically never use a non-crafted item if you wish though (for PvE, because for PvP you should be using Abyss gear when you get enough points). Leveling crafting however, is just a matter of spending money, as the game offers you repeatable "work orders" that are special crafts quest-related that you just need materials from NPC to make and level up crafting. 6 crafting skills and 2 gathering skills. You can only master one or two though. |

Aion has very good crafting system, where the items are VERY nice. on par with the dungeon sets and pvp sets, stats are just as good just no set bonuses (yet no idea if they'll ever add any either tho). but crafting itself is a bit boring, its one of those ones where you click and make the item no other interaction involved. you can fail at it wich didn't seem to happen to me often, and the white item you're crafting has a chance to proc a green version wich has another (lower chance) to proc the green into a blue, wich has a chance to proc into an epic (very rare chance). like the crafting bar fills, then the item icon turns into a green version and the crafting bar starts all over again, like the green is a completely new item, but uses the same material you started with. if you played Vanguard its like theirs where you can lvl up crafting through work orders, wich i found kinda neat. like i was crafting road signs for the town.so you don't have to go out farm a ton of mats just to lvl up say armorsmithing.and honestly it seemed to lvl faster through the work orders. you are givin all the materials for the first one. from the lvl 10 work order up you have to buy mats from the vendor. youll get the main material buy just need to buy like maybe the charcoal to finish the orders. and for rewards for the work orders you get materials for the crafting you're doing. one of the most unique features i found from the crafting is you get player exp for crafting as well as lvling your crafting. now its not a HUGE amount where it could be done to like power lvl an alt. its pretty minimal but better than nothing. you also get player exp for gathering as well. and also liked the fact that all gathering was lumped into 1 profession (gathering). fishing, herbalism, mining, lumbering ect all 1 profession to lvl and there are a TON of things to gather to keep it lvled up. no scrounging 1 mineral node every 10 minutes. i have literally seen 8 nodes all in a row along a mountain side, all within sight of each other. fast respawns and always in teh same spot. Aether gathering is the biggest pain and every profession requires it in the mats. Aether is up in the air and you have to fly up to gather it, and wings are on a timer so might only get 3-5 gathered before you need to land to recharge. but at higher lvls with the better wings you'll be able to do it longer but still a bit of a pain. |
