Title kind of says it all really, but just to clarify: Who, out of the currently announced MMOs upcoming, will actually manage to have a playable game on the shelves by close of business, december 31, 2010? For purposes of this debate, a "non-playable" launch would have to equal Anarchy Online or WW2Onlines level of abject suckage on launch day or be some psuedo-limited release/stealth beta such as Darkfall. (On shelves means just that, in retail places - none of this download only garbage!) So, how is consumer confidence? Who will make it? Who won't? As a side bet, with there now being no less than *three* Vampire/Werewolf/Mage teen-angst driven ripoffs announced, which one will make it out of the gate first?

Haha, this thread is a bit depressing. Who cares about innovation, next generation and all this fluff, when games can't be developed to be stable in the first place, right? |

Doesn't Final Fantasy release in Japan first then like a year later in America and then 5 years later for Europe? lol. |

Lol? They are going to release it at same time in all regions. LOL Playing: Aion, Failed Earth |

Aion yeah for sure, FFXIV from what I've read looks to be very possible, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not released then. SWTOR I will be surprised if it's released in 2010. |

Well, Aion has already launched. So that does not count. Star Wars:Â The Old Republic will be out closer to 2011 or 2012. FF XIV: Do not really care, not on my list in any form or shape. Global Agenda should be available. Fallen Earth will be launched soon. Mortal Online should be available (no idea what shape tho). Jumpgate Evolution should be out. All Point Bulleting should be out. |

Yeah, that's certainly part of the point. When the "standard" is for the company's line of BS and hype to start with something as basic as when it will launch, then there is something badly wrong with the entire industry. I also think we're seeing a fairly significant "slump" in major launches, either because of the general economic situation worldwide or because WoW is simply sucking most of the oxygen out of the room. Adding some of my predictions: SW:TOR will definately launch after 2010 SG:W will be lucky to ever launch at all, current company will fold and whoever picks it up won't get it done by 2010 Secret World and WoD will both miss 2010....FunCom and CCP are both historically a bit slow and apparently slower lately; making it at least possible that Twilight will sneak in and launch first, but it's unlikely. STO will launch by end of 2010, but will suck mightily. Cryptic is simply rushing this way too much as a "proof of concept" for their cookie cutter, MMO-lite in under 2yrs dev package.

Aion is definately playable, but there was something I did not like and cancelled my pre-purchase because of it. The problem I am having with MMOs lately is they are all so similar. These games with swords and magic are starting to feel less and less exciting. This makes me believe games similar as Global Agenda, with guns and different types of thing, are going to become quite successful. I have played many different games, Free to Play and Pay to Play, and the ones that had different settings other than swords and magic were much more fun to me. By the way, I am not saying the world revolves around me and that a certain style will work, but others may feel the same way. Even if they do not know it yet :P |

Only one I can think of atm is Aion. I would also say SW:TOR, but I doubt it will be released by 2010. O_o o_O |

Well they better launch soon or we'll never be able to play any of them for long. Remember the world is ending on Dec 21st, 2012~!

Aion, Champions Online, MO, SW: TOR (by the end of 2010, probably. By the end of 2009, no way). As for the Vampire/Werewolf/Mage teen-angst driven ripoffs, I say World of Darkness gets the win. Though I'm not personally interested in any of them. And I'm pretty sure the Twilight "MMO" will fail before it even leaves the starting gates. |

Aion for sure =)). Champions Online for sure. ( just hope it is really that good) FFXIV might come out 2010. SE is really good with their dates but things are always changing. Diablo 3 (really hope this comes out asap ) Although it is not a true MMO but worth it anyways . SW:TOR really should come out in 2010. At Comic Con 2009 they are having an already palyable verison so ........ Star Tek Online if anyone really cares ... LOL Played Aoc/DDO/FFXI/WAR Waiting for FFXIV =)) |
