Make it for the Wii & DS. (PC also)

That's your WoW-killah.

I actually think that it would be awesome. Leveling would have to be pretty tough since getting lvl100 Pokemon isn't that hard, really. Perhaps one where you are the Pokemon?

A Pokémon MMO is perhaps the ONLY game that could persuade me to buy a DS or Wii

I say, bring it on! :-D

MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, Warhammer Online, City of Villains / Heroes, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor

If Nintendo made (or published) a Pokemon MMO your character wouldn't have a name, they'd have some 12 digit number over their head. And you wouldn't be able to chat in-game, at all.

If Nintendo does do a Pokemon MMO, or a new pokemon game in general, I'd really like to see a revamp of the battle system.  In place of the classic turn-based gameplay, I would like to see a more action-oriented style of play.  You are able to take control of your little monster and move them around the battlefield and out of the way of attacks (if they're quick enough), as well as being able to launch attacks while on the move.  You would have access to all of your attacks with just a button press, while other items, pokeballs and healing items and all that, could be accessed through a handy side menu.  Hit your opponent with an attack that stuns them, toss in a pokeball, and you've got yourself a new monster.

Now, I also think that online matchmaking could be a little bit of a hastle, so here's what I would do.  Say you find someone that you would like to have a pokemon battle with.  Go up to them and click on them (with the wii-mote, stylis, what have you), and their information will appear.  Their player name, their roster of six usable pokemon, and how many battles they've had.  You can then challenge them to a battle.  Similarly, if you are the once being challenged, you have the option to accept, decline, or ignore the player for a set period of time, say a half hour (if you're not in the dueling mood or if they're becoming annoying).

It could be pretty fun, I suppose.  It will definately attract kids like flies and make Nintendo wads of cash.

It would no doubt make a lot of money right out the gate for the name alone, but think about it. What if instead of weapons you had pokemon in your inventory? And for each one you could gain skills (attacks) for a specific type of pokemon as it progresses. I just think if they pulled it off it'd rake in a lot of cash, and I'd actually give it a shot lol

The dreams in which im dying are the best i've ever had

Thats a great idea, but I can't imagine this hasn't been brought up by at least someone in Nintendo.

I like the idea of controlling your pokemon in a more real time based combat system, rather than the old turn based system, but how would quests work? would everyone just try to get random badges? NPC trainers and NPC combat? What about raids and dungeons? Pokemon MMO is a good idea on paper, but there is still alot of stuff that couldn't be ported from the single player experience to a multiplayer experience, and a lot of things that need to be in a multiplayer game that would be hard to put in a pokemon game

I love this to happen, especially if instead of playing the role of the trainer as in old pokemon games, you were actually a wild pokemon and you must defend yourself from other wild pokemon and trainers attempting to catch you. As someone else said, this would make quite a good sum of money but I think most developers see MMO's as being too much hassle and not worth the effort. Shame... Id love to design my own pokemon and explore the pokemon universe in beuatiful 3D  :)

Ugh. That killed the Final Fantasy series for me.
If I wanted RTS's I'd buy startcraft/warcraft kind of games.
I couldn't stand playing the latest FF game because they did just what you suggested.

I'm pretty sure they're making something like this with the Hello Kitty gaming engine.

LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa

I think Pokemon is fine just where it currently resides.  In order to make a successful, long-lasting, and fun MMORPG you would have to make drastic changes that would ruin it as a franchise.  Even some of the posts above have suggested changes to the core battle system.

Frankly, games like Pokemon corner a market that has a particular age range.  This age range, in my opinion, would create a horrible MMOG community.  I've played games that appeal to a young age range in a multiplayer setting.  It is not a good experience for anyone.

On the other hand, I think a creature capture game could do well as long as the company behind it realized what aspects of a game they would have to add to make it successful and work long-term.

Ehh, pokemon is more of a 1-player game. Nintendo would have to do so much to change it, it would ruin the game. You could probably pull of a game like it though. Like you can find monsters, capture them, use them to fight other monsters.
