This post has some basic info for those that aren't familiar with the game, that's why it's so long. So I finally decided to try this game out, since I've been looking for a game wich gives the player more freedom of choice. Started with going to their site, where you first have to create an account, then insert payment info. Then you get access to a downlaod link wich is a torrent file. The download took about 5-6 hours for me, not quite sure as I let it download over night and the next morning it was ready for install. The client is over 9GB in size. So install it and it downloads a small patch fairly quickly. Then finally make a character and I'm inside the game. The graphics look better rhan on youyube videos and screenshots, I'd say they are slightly better than mediocre. Although the animations aren't impressive, I don't think it matters all that much, I didn't choose this game for the graphics. Personally I turn down the resolution and graphic quality to have the game run as smothly as possible. As I'm standing in the noob area, looking at the GUI and trying to figure out where and what everything is I see at lest 3-4 different people run by me. the first thing you notice is the left-click, rightclick system, where leftclick gives you action mode where you can fight and rightclick gives you access to the menus and gui. Anyway, as I', standing there, noobing around, I hear this guy shout "HELP ME!" from behind me. The sounds are quite helpful in this game it seems, you can go after them to find where combat is taking place. So I run up to some bloody guy laying there, with pretty low health. Since I'm not quite familiar with the situation I just take a step back and watch what happens. Another guy runs up to him as well, and after a while the guy on the ground dies and a gravestone pops up. I don't have any gear except a startup weapon which I can't lose, and I ahven't been in any sort of combat PvP or PvE, so i decide to loot the guy. My first player looting ever in my MMORPG experience happened without any combat! The dead guy spawns and run up to his gravestone, which disappears, since everything is looted. so he just looks at me and I look at him and starts to put my new gear on right there in front of him, which I thought was kinda cruel but also rather funny So I start to move towards the entrance of the city, and he starts to shoot mana missils at me, which he don't manage to hit with at a somewhat short distance. So I decide to stand still so he can get a hit, so I can see how much damage this does to me. Then when he finally hits me, I see it does about 5% damage so not a terrible weapon that one, and BooM Headshot goes the guard tower and the confused newb again turns into a gravestone. Maybe not so funny to read this all, but I found it hilarious at the time
Then I decide to explore abit just outside the city, and I'm very wary of any other players that might attack me. A short distance from the startup city there seems to be a farming spot for PvE goblins that drop loot and give increased weapon skill when you fight them. I wasn't really sure how people would behave in a FFA PvP game with player looting, but so far I haven't been attacked by more than two players, the other one seemed to be very skilled guy with a full set of armor, which I happened to stumble upon further away from the city. I was alone with hardly any gear so my bad. After playing so many mmo's with levels I still tend to think of more skilled characters in DF as "higher levels", and in a way it's true since they probably have higher weapon skills, then me anyway. So it takes a bit of changing your thinking.
But that incident with player looting in the startup area and the freedom of choosing ANY weapon, proffesion, armor, opponent, was enough for me to unsubscribe from my other MMO, that made my first day Not that I don't see bugs and things I would have done differently, but I'll rather make a post about that later, this ones long enough. Cheers! http://www.rateitall.com/t-28860-mmorpg-rankings.aspx |

Nope. If you ask around alot of the people that went back. Went back to games like Eve-Online. There were even a few that went back to UO or a private UO shard. Never understand why when someone says going back to another MMO. People automatically assume it's WoW. Why are DF fans so hard up for WoW? Envy maybe? >Nope, problem is you can't contruct a halfway logical counterpoint to anything, probably because you don't understand what it is you're arguing about in the first place. - Hellmoob |

But the feeling you get in a game like Darkfall addictive to some players. Imagine how successful Darkfall could have been if the skill/stat grind wasn't so huge. I just hope Aventurine put in some hardcap and make the skills/stats raise fast. Then you would have seen the big battles again. Currently grinding Darkfall |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

For all your caterwauling, a dead game like shadowbane was a far better game. Had more options in terms of the characters you could make, and the pvp was better, you had mine fights, and hot zones, etc etc. WHy people think DF is anything but a step backwards to FPS is beyond me. |

Inzra, just ignore any trolls in this thread, that's how I felt when I first started in March. I will be interested to hear how your first week goes. |

I have Darkfall now! |
Nice to be able to do the first player looting in a FFAPvP MMO without combat : ) A friend looted a dragon mount in his first hour of playing Darkfall. |
