No good mmorpgs has been released since WoW. |

Everyone agrees on that part. The part everyone discusses about: will a new bend in a riverline, a new mountain and a PvP or PVE gimmick makes for a difference at 5% of the development effort. Of course not. MMO's can be so much more than a fantasy wrapped, level X and gear based tank, spank affair with a subscription attached to it. (the subs part being responsible 90% leaves after 3 months btw). Hello guys... : that game was already made and is repolished every 6 months with patches, go at least for the 325 other options. So you all can play DIFFERENT games again. The rest plays the same game so he can talk with his friends in RL.

I've been thinking the same thing as OP for a while now. The only thing that had me exited a year ago was WAR and while I still play and enjoy it (mostly due to beeing in a very, very good guild) I still want.. well... a better balanced game.
What would make me exited again then? Well, I enjoy both pvp and pve so a game with both is preferable. 2 factions is too hard to balance so either more or no factions is more interesting. Good vs evil is old and still works but I want something new or/and different. What about Horror vs Sci-fi vs Fantasy or something? I don't like games where everything is about what gear you're wearing. Sure, gear should be important but not vital in every aspect to be able to compete. I want skill to matter. There's a lot more I would like in a game but these are a few things I'm looking for when browsing upcoming releases.

I know the problem I have is all these new mmorpgs feel like Offline games and I want the feeling of playing an Online game grouped with other people. Starting areas now are becoming some weird offline tutorial type thing and I hate that. When I get into an online game I want to be playing with other people straight away. Like with Star Wars Galaxies Pre CU or World of Warcraft or Planetside, I'm starting out straight away with other people, grouping and having fun and I feel like I'm part of an online world. |

Personally I have not played any of the games you listed since none of them have released yet. I don't see how you could label every game as failed without actually testing them. The genre is far from failed. While I personally stopped playing MMOs near two months ago that was due to burn out and near 12 years straight of MMO gaming. The sight of an action bar and quest marker over a NPCs head makes me feel sick. However, I am in the minority. Tons of individuals enjoy games like WoW, EQ2, Lotro and others. Just take a look at other video game genres, How many good RPGs are there? two maybe three? out of what, thirty? Same goes for other genres like shooters and Action adventure games. out of the ten good looking up and coming mmos if two are good that would be on par with other video game genres. I wouldn't call the genre failed just yet.

Sorry you feel that way. But thats only your personal disaster, perhaps you should buy an Xbox or maybe go out and have a more social life until 2011. Good luck with that. |

You sure about that? I'm sorry but 4 good Rpgs in three years doesn't equal alot considering all the crap that's out atm (more than 30 bad or average rpgs). Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 the rest have been sub par Jrpg garbage. As far as fp shooters go besides Halo 3, Bioshock, killzone 2 and the CoD games whats actually been great? Most game genre are flooded with average or sub par games just like the MMO genre, yet we don;t label those genres failures. As much as the fanbois would like to think the MMO genre is no more important than any other genre. I find this living or dying due to a single bad release stupid. Playing: EvE, Ryzom |

If you count TP shooters/action games, then Prototype, Dead Space are graet games. Wolverine is not so bad either. |

Prototype is an action/adventure game while Dead space can be placed in the Survival horror genre. If i do this how many good Survival horror and 3rd person shooters are out now? For horror its Dead space, RE5 and maybe the silent hills (I could be missing one or two. Since 3rd person shooters are so big atm even if we have ten good ones it doesnt matter considering we have hundreds of below average ones. Yet with that many bad or below average games we don;t call for the failure of those genres do we? Playing: EvE, Ryzom |
