So now we have an answer.  AV self published in NA to pay off investors.

Quote:

"NA Publisher
Who is the NA publisher?

The publishing of Darkfall in N. America and in Europe is managed by Aventurine SA with support from and through several partners. The commercial rights to the two territories belong to two different business interests. For all intended purposes Aventurine is self-publishing in N. America with partner and external investor support. The commercial rights to Darkfall for Europe belong to Audio Visual Enterprises which is not involved with the N. American release.

Most game companies using the subscription model, separate their territories especially when infrastructure isn't shared, but in most cases even when it is shared and especially when there are separate business and legal issues involved. In Darkfall's case, a N. American server may not have been possible otherwise. Publishing an MMORPG of this size in a territory such as N. America is a very expensive proposition."

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else.

Heh, you can practically see the cold hands, sweaty brow and stuttering. But, it was no surprise for anyone, thus far. Best part is, there will be no repercussion. They efectively defused this bomb by playing the waiting game and by releasing the game patch.

Masterful work, indeed.

Next step should be to ditch Audio Visual who have done zip point squat up to this point. Seriously why didn't these poltroons just come out and say "We can't launch NA-1 on current resources so we're going to have to charge everyone to play on each server." Would it have been that hard? Take your lumps like a man Tasos. And EU-2? Only if they close EU-1 bubbah.  You don't have the population for two servers and now you want three?

always amusing to see rerolled troll accounts squirm when they hear DF is doing well.

a third server already? EU pop seems to have come back a bit since the NA server launched but i don't think we'll see EU-2 just yet... unless they plan on actually starting to advertise now.

IMO they should keep plugging away with patches every 2 weeks adding content and fixing the few things that are still a bit too basic: chat functionality and melee combat.

If growth happens, a second EU server will be opened.  They didn't do the mistakes of other companies by opening a dozen servers.  NA1 has a ton of "100% new to the game" players, and more are joining every day.  If they stay, then new servers will be needed, on both sides of the world.

I think its a good call on Adventurine's part....too many small developers are making deals with big boy publishers and being swallowed up by them.

So yeah good luck to them.

Don't know if you can run it?

So they do a 360 yet again on something else. Good going and yet people still give AV money. It seems even adults of the world can still be gullable.

That seems to be a bit more reserved sentiment than what was expressed just a couple weeks ago.

You know the sentiment that the NA server would be completely filled in 4 hours or less.  Glad we've moved past that.

What you posted above... "EU pop seems to have come back a bit since the NA server launched"

THAT is a much more realistic sentiment and one that most all would agree is something appropriate for fans of a particular MMO to express.  It's much easier to have mature dialogue when everyone involved is working from a realistic viewpoint.

Anyway... just wanted to say I for one appreciate the change of heart.

Game is growing, thats for sure.

Small companies trying to release in multiple markets go through hell and back.  Big companies dont, because they have money and offices everywhere.  Sometimes I think they hire trolls too, to berate good games, but there is no way to prove that (AoC developers were caught doing that, and Funcom is small, but well funded).

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else.

Audio Visual has nothing to do with Darkfall and Aventurine. At some point they signed a pre-agreement that never materialized.

They're still listed as Darkfall's European publisher.  That would be "something to do with Darkfall and Aventurine."

Audio Visual were the people I paid about a week ago or so now.

Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

So lets see if the same happens to you as your not a darkfall fan :) ...i know exactly what you meant though :) it will be just interesting to see if these people treat both sides the same :)

Who are the gullable ones byw? the ones who play the game? and iof so please explain why as i can't see it!

My payments went direct to Darkfall online, according to the cc statements.  (while playing on EU server)

The gullable ones I refer to are the ones that admit no fault and defend AV at every turn.  I can respect those who bought the game and admit the faults and problems with AV. As far as the 360 you are right lol. And I am a DF fan sort of. I am a fan of the original incarnation of it but I am a HUGE AV hater ::)

with people leaving in mass not becuase they didnt like the game but ONLY becuase they didnt like having to pay for the NA server how exactly did waiting before saying anything help them gain?

Kind of a contraction dont you think?

does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!?

It takes him 2 paragraphs of obsification instead of just clearly admiting:

"we were the NA publisher all along but lied about it so we could justify asking people to pay twice because we needed the money."

Classic Tasos, he only comes clean after launch when hes got as much money as possible, now hes in frantic damage controll mode in preparation to suck up as many transfer fees as possible from any one left still waiting to play on the US server whos not fallen for this trick and left in disgust.

But it does fill me with glee to think that some people have actually been silly or desperate enough to pay over 50 dollars just for a torrent download twice so far.

Not to wory though, only over half of Darkfalls community are from NA so im sure this little debacle wont have much effect on this games continued incredible success at all.
