Bored with your current MMO? Looking for something different from all the other MMOs out there? Then you need to try Ryzom!

Very Brief Lore:

Ryzom is based on the planet Atys, Atys has been overrun by the Kitin (big monsters that want to eat you). You pick one of the four races - Tryker, Fyros, Zorai and Matis. You can join one of the two factions Kami (Spirit Gods) or Karavan (Advanced Technology). Both factions claim to want to restore peace to Atys. Your job is to rid the planet of the Kitin and restore you home land.

A Few Selling Points:

PVP - PVE zones, Faction vs Faction, Guild vs Guild, guilds/factions fight over ownership of Outposts which provide guilds with unqique raw materials for crafting boosted items, and XP catalyzers for double XP, main towns and surrounding areas are non PVP for those not interested. You can Tag yourself as PVP available, which means you can engage in PVP with anyone anywhere who is also PVP Tagged.

Living World - Ryzom has a living world, with different seasons and weather conditions, trees blow in the wind, the sky darkens with thunder, snow falls in winter, etc etc. Mobs that are Herbivors and Carnivors. The Herbivors are tame unless you attack them, if they are social the whole pack will attack you! The Carnivors naturally hunt down the Herbivors and feed on them regardless of what your doing. If you get too close you may find yourself looking like a tastey snack. Mobs also migrate in herds to different locations depending on season.

Crafting - This game has the most in depth crafting system I have seen in an MMO far too much to go into here I can only very briefly cover it. Crafted items stats and colours are all determined by the materials used to make them. The look of the item is decided by the Craft Plan you use. Higher level crafter have access to better quality plans. Different raw materials can be found in different seasons and weather conditions. The rarer the material the better stats it will provide! This game has been described as "a crafters paradise" countless times.

Boss Hunts - Big bad bosses, sometimes backed up with hordes of minions, needing large teams of players to take down. With drops of either rare materials, rare armour or even the craft plans to make this rare armour yourself in different colours.

Skill Based - This game is skill based not class based, the maximum lvl for each skill is 250 and beleive me there are A LOT of skills in the skill tree. Any character can lvl any skill they desire.

Dedicated RP site - A dedicated RP site has just been launched the kinks are still being ironed out but this comes with anything newly launched.

Great Community - This game has one of the friendliy, mature and most helpful communities you will find out there.

Fans of SWG have said to have found Ryzom to have very similar characteristics (before SWG was 'ruined') others have disagreed. But to any SWG fans out there Ryzom is a must try, you could well find your second home.

The playerbase is currently lacking for the NA region but has better population during Euro times. This game needs more players! It's a great MMO but unfortunately very under advertised. This is a team based game, whilst it is possible to solo it can be challanging. So go and Download the FREE Trial and see if this game is for you!

Its a long time since I last played. I think you forgot to mention that you can modify you skills. Like more power at the cost of less range.

You can also create you own quests with a editor. Never tried that part though.

It was my first MMO, I was in the beta.

It is a fun game. But I just have more fun playing other MMO's.

I guess maybe there is too many new and strange things in the game. Also the graphics looks a bit outdated and I have never been a fan of monthly fee. Servers closing and opening many times have not helped either.

Not even sure if i would play it much if it was f2p.

This is the second post I have seen about the ryzom graphics being outdated. I think people have this impression because the default settings are set at the absolute minimum. You must increase the resolution to match your graphics cards, and increase the texture settings. There is also a bloom effect and square filter that should be maxed out with most modern cards. Here is a screenie. Although the artwork is very different from the traditional mmo's, the game plays well and IMHO has nice graphics. :P

Ryzom's default graphic settings look like crap. Bump the settings to max, and it is a very good looking game. Check out my gallery of Ryzom pics to see some more examples.

Ryzom is definitely different from your average themepark MMO, but this is what makes it fun and unique.
