I've watched quite a number of "raid" video's From what I see people just casually sit back firing arrows and spells, boss doesnt move and seems to follow a predictable pattern. So is raiding just tank n spank? Obviously a video doesnt reveal the whole truth. |

it maybe a fresh game to the west, but its certainly not in asia, Reports are that it already has over 1million paying users. Its very polished. Doubt they would make any major changes to the content just for the west. But I agree, those boss's dont look like raids, they still look boring tho :( |

I would suggest researching mmo differences between asia and the US. Yes, there will be changes, Yes, the devs have stated such. Yes, there have to be, because US players are candy assed easy mode people who have been catered to by Blizzard. Die hard real gamers are getting to be a rare breed as companies go for $$ and go after the average joe. This game will be made easy mode and have HUGE xp curve difference when it hits NA. Mark my words.

Once more for accuracy's sake, there will be NO changes to the core gameplay from Korea to EU/NA. The CMs have said several times the only changes in game are flavor or language related. Most of the changes will be on the back end, billing, CS, ect. |

I would like to see where you read it being the opposite. I've read that core game won't be changed. Changes are pretty much translation and backend. |

I uploaded two pictures of fighting a boss in fire temple. I mean a humanoid boss (female chick) and you cant sit there and fight. if you are close range malee you have to move at times if she sets down traps, because they explode in 4 seconds and it could be your death. She used strategic AOE attacks and you never know when it was going to happen, no pattern involved, you just have to keep your eyes open for it. Bosses and Elete Mobs are two different things. -In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. Passed away on Aug/13/08- |

Bosses use different skills and stuff like that, but it's mostly Tank n' Spank so far, yes. Hopefully it will improve, but going by the fact that this is more of a PvP game and that the Asian developers probably aren't that experienced with challenging scripted boss encounters, we can't really expect to see any complex WoW-like bossencounters. We can still hope they will try though :) |

Post by Ayase (there are several replies in this thread by Ayase.) Quote: Maybe you can respond to this so we can put all of the Westernization stuff in a single easily quotable post for the legions of new folks that have/will arrive between now and Q4. Westernization will include.... Changing all the voice acting from Korean/Chinese to English(French and German too I believe)
Changes to the core game (asmos will still be asmos and elyos will still be elyos)
It's about right, except possibly the Abyss rank names which I don't really know about right now. They'll be reasonable. I will also add to the last point of the NOT-include list that all those kinds of things are subject to normal game improvement, patches and expansions. Just the finer points of the entire discussion. Ayase/Amboss/Liv have over and over said there will be no major changes to the game. The above post is just 1 of the myriad of examples of them saying there will be no major changes. You have to remember NCWest are NOT devs. They are the publishing arm for the west. So unless you read posts by Ayase, Amboss, or Liv, do not believe them. (in regards to what is being changed.) |

It says nothing about xp curves, grinding, quests, etc. The definition of Core can mean many things to different people, and I believe it may mean something different to you than a developer. If you have a link stating they will in now way change any numbers or mechanics, I would be happy to take a look.

When the player uses the special skill there will be a global msg sent out stating the fact and if you open your map his location will be marked on it for all to see.

Ive played many Asian MMO's Aion's is very similar to perfect world in many aspects, so I wouldnt mind so much if they did reduce the XP curve. (or at least made it so that you could just quest without having to grind) But anyway, lets presume for a moment that your right, and they do alter the XP curve. I cant see them physically altering the AI on Raid boss's can you? Not that Im overly botherd, if the pvp is as good and addictive as it reads to be then I wont be raiding a huge amount, but when I do I dont want to be falling asleep.

What level did you get to tho? I mean most Asian MMO's are easy to begin with, then you tend to hit a brick wall. Perfect world, was relativly easy upto level 60, then it was just grind. |

Regarding xp curve, isn t the game already as easy or easier than wow (to lvl 80 that is). Am i the only one who has at some point read that the level cap was not that hard to achieve, even if you compare it to wow. Just trying to get the facts straight, otherwise people will be debating false information wich is a bit useless:). |

I disagree. LineageII and Guildwars were NCSoft...
Most of those were NOT tank and spank. There were a few Raidbosses in L2 that were, but Baium, Anthras, Valakys, etc. epic bosses, were definitely not. And that game was made by them how many years ago? 6? LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa

Of course you don't you want to quibble over the definition of "core". If you want to believe the worst, then fine by me. Although I find it odd that everytime a CM has made a post about localization, they have repeatedly said it includes only flavor items, making quests more "western" in their meaning, changing the language pack and things on the back end (CS and billing). In the post I linked they stated that they wouldn't even change the names of quest givers / deava lords. As for grinding, it will be easier in the NA/EU than china (currently) because we will start with patch 1.2 (live in Korea). This patch made many tweaks to quest XP and added quite a few mid-level quests. I can't make you believe what you refuse to. All I can do is try to counter the BS that seems to spawn on this site. There will be no major change to XP, loot, or anything even remotely related to core gameplay. Don't take my words for it, take the CM's. |

I'd agree that westernisation changes will probably just fluff, they 'may' do a change to the XP Curve, but I'm not botherd about that.
Point is, I think we can all agree that they wont alter the AI behind the raid's just for the west. Since its been out for so long in Korea already there must surly be someone out there who has done a max level raid who can say what the experience was like? |

So here you go again, in case you didn't catch this and it's now months later and all I did was make a correct statement, and you had to get on your high horse that just shattered:
To answer the original post in this thread: We will do what we think is necessary at this point. We will use the improvements that come with the patching and continued development of the game and match this up with things we've noticed need to be adapted to the western audience through our beta events. Some of the things you list in your post come down to personal preference, while others are just nice improvements that would benefit all Aion territories and not only us here in the west. Bear with us as we're simply trying to as much as we can, as soon as we can. This could mean both larger changes (character voices) or smaller changes (default templates in character creation, inverse mouse view). Mystery |
