It apears I should try Vanguard, and to comment on your comment elderotter, I was unable to expeience the entire game, as I ran out on the pre-paid card, and havn't been able to get another.. You have point there, too with the fact that I'm looking for my perfect game.... but can you kill a guy for trying?

Originally posted by Wanaziba Nope, been doing it for awhile. EVE and LOTRO are the closest. World of Darkness and the secret worl(both games in the future) look good. Waiting for Champions Online right now. (Yes I know about the rMT issue, using the item shop/or not using it is a choice - I will choose not to). Hopefully the game will not be ruined by having it, we'll see. |

Hello Wanaziba,
I would say having played around 50+ MMORPG that CoX (City of Heroes/Villains) is quite close to what you describe. I think EQ2 is also good, and to some extent Atlantica Online might be fun for you, although it has a few non-consensual PvP options that *can* ruin your experience there.
If you are hard set on Fantasy you might prefer Everquest 2 (it has grown and improved very much over the last years) but quite frankly - even though I urge you to try their Free Trial - CoX seems more appropriate. Allow me to explain. Please realize I have *no* great affection for Super Heroes. My affection is with a game, that I wanted to skip in fact, that a friend advized me and I have *never* had more fun in an MMORPG, including my 'first love' Asheron's Call (although those great memories never fade :) ). I can sum up a zillion things about CoX but here are a few you might consider at least interesting enough to try *their* 14-day free trial: 1) Excellent story telling; the *only* game where I still read all Mission text. Maybe the start is not great but wait until they get going. 2) Best enemy AI - you can add up ALL the AI from ALL other MMORPG and then you might get close. Much of this is due to the fact that some random behavior exists in enemies. Keep in mind that as of Mission Architect, you can design your own baddie groups. 3) Mission Architect = player made content. 4) Inventions = in a very non-loot-minded system, you find salvage, with which you alter your abilities. You alter your abilities well...nearly every day, probably, until you got what you want. Then you want better - but no need to grind or farm. 5) Excellent pathing. Enemies following you; jumping over obstacles, running down stairs. 6) Supergroup Bases - you do not have housing (yet), but the game gives Supergroups (guilds) the ability to design their own base. Great fun; I made a couple. 7) Supermove powers; you have never moved until you have Superjumped. 8) Ridiculous choice in costumes and soon you can even choose what your powers look like. 9) Insane monsters from Giant Pumpkins to scary imps; they all make sense where they are, nearly all of them have some nasty surprise for you. 10) Here's a few more: Duo-Build; Respec; Task Forces; Trials; SideKick & Mentor systems; Teleporting; Giant Monsters; Rikti Invasions & Raid Zone; Hazard Zones; Flight pack; Temp powers; Oranbega fantasy city setting; all kinds of insane PvP zones (free for all; hero-vs-villain; etc); anyway this is getting too long I could go on. Tips! 1) Get trial 8-) 2) Get on Liberty Server 3) Put me (Global @Digitales) on your friends list. 4) While waiting until I log on to accept & show you around, do your missions. 5) Ignore pad, fill, farm requests. 6) Ignore Mission Architect teams for now - you have better things to do. You can give your charname in reaction to this thread; I'll keep an eye on it.
See you there, Lucas aka Xin Yue; Cubic; Eruptic and many others (well umm 16 I think :p) on Liberty Server.

Hi illanadan, all,
Well the offer to contact me is open to all. Let me give you a few more hints: - Start with a hero unless you are *really* set on Villains. Hero is a bit easier to 'get into' and it's generally busier. - When in game check all your options and make sure you turn on 'Teleport Prompt' because before you know it some fun-loving TP-happy muckup puts you on top of the Mission Architect Building. You can't get killed in ONE hit from a drop though ;) (unless you are already below max_health). - Movement can take a bit to get used to but the interface of CoX is really good; you just have to spend time finding it all. In EQ2 (best UI I ever did see; well together with Close Combat series) it took me 3 months to get things right. Keeping mucking about until you got it all set the way you want it. It's highly adjustable. - Ignore the Sewer Team invites at first. You can solo ALL your missions - not saying you should, just making sure you know even the Controllers & Defenders can do what the Contacts ask of them. And it gets better; hell you can even set the mission difficulty in this game (and more options for that are on the way). - Keep in mind that at level 5, you can do your first Safeguard mission. You get a VERY nice 2-hour temp power for that. Ya wants it! Nope, I'm not telling :p - Ask for shortcuts in movement, like Pocket D. - Remember this is Mac client too now. - Remember the name 'Mid's Hero Designer' - this is one of several mutilities that you can use to OFFLINE design your hero. So you know what to get when, what the effects are, etc. Not necessary at first but highly useful later on. - Put your 'enhancement slots' into the powers you use most. Attacks, Defense, Heal & Hold powers mostly I think. Don't waste slots on sprint. - If you want your Supermove power at level 14 (oh yes you do!) you HAVE to take the FIRST OR SECOND 'pool power' from whatever supermove school you choose (TP, Fly, Superjump, Supersprint) *before* that. So 12 at the latest since uneven levels you don't pick powers but put in enhancement slots.
Well, feel free to ask stuff. Like Hawkeye said: "Put them on my desk, I'll ignore them in the morning".

Hmmm, I beleive I'll give City of Heros a shot, maybe even try EvE if they've got a 14 day trail, also probally will try-out Vanguard. Maybe even look into EQ2 (as in Ever Quest 2... right?) Correct me, if I'm wrong... all of them have a monthly fee for them, right? Like some where around $15 or so?

Hello again, Waiting for my Evony pillaging group to come home to distribute the latest spoils...so, let's answer some questions :) - EVE great idea; pretty fun beta; some silly rules ruin the game for me now (ganking; griefing, and the worst forums I have ever seen - mind you in-game you have lots of fun folk; it's the loudmouth minority that kills it). Still, sure, give it a go. Apart from the aforementioned, *and* the never-fixed (pity that is) offline skill training system (sounds fun; works horribly you can never, ever catch up to the old garde; I hope they change it some day but I phear the worst) there are really fun things to see there. And if all fails, just make sure you get 'EVE Never Fades - XL' video on your PC, I swear it's the best game video I have ever seen. Impressive, still, in 2009. I am hoping Jumpgate Evolution will succeed where EVE failed (for me; I appreciate that others like it just fine). Maybe I should explain I just categorically refuse to pay for games where a few griefers can destroy the fun of a hundred different people every day. Horrible; it gets to me. I want to have fun - not necessarily 'carebear' fun but...people with a bit of backbone and character to play with, and/or against. Let's switch to positive. - Vanguard: I think in every single respect I can think of, Everquest 2 (EQ2, yep) does things better than Vanguard. Vanguard refused to give in; either you love the niche it aimed for - or you're out of luck. Hey - I would try *every* trial! Have a look, decice for yourself. - Atlantica Online is free to play. All others are around 15 bucks/month I think. Atlantica disappointed me insofar as a few faulty systems killed my game fun when I reached around level 100. But boy there are SOOO many highly original and innovative systems there (can check one of my posts here for them; I have listed 100 Atlantica game systems somewhere). This is turn-based combat mind you. But it is highly *enjoyable* combat. It's weakest point is probably the front end. Takes a bit to get into. Then again, I much rather have a game that gets better all the time, than one that gets repetitive 8-). I inhertited a good guild and built a 10-Guild Nation there (made me King, the brats) - funtimes. I even went to ranking #212 I think at some point, in the Free League (consensual PvP duels; very well done). Have a look? - No in-game housing I have ever seen beats that of EQ2. My Troll Malato even has a private Torture Room...grand! And umm 70 mirrors in the hallway (thanks my good carpenters) since Trolls are so cuuuuute. Now if I can just keep my Wargmobile from drooling over Gnomes (or eating every Wood Elf he spots). Hmm I guess his name Drooltool suits him fine. - Not to mention my pet dragon Pickwick the Pest, or the other critters running about. Did I have a cow-like deity pet named named Milkmeej? - LotRO was fun but like WoW, it does not really captivate me for a very long time. WoW was too loot minded (some fun stuff there though) and LotRO has too many solo quests turn to group quests. EQ2 suffers from that but you can ignore the quests (delete them). Still, I would try the trials of ANY game you have not tried. You might be pleasantly surprised. - Like with Ryzom, but that's pretty sandbox - mind you I have never seen any PvP like it: 200 people in a single battle and *nobody*, repeat *nobody* once said anything even remotely unfriendly. It has the best community I have ever seen. Hey I spent 3 months just making my first pack of decent ammo (ranged fighter) and enjoyed most any second. Bit outdated in some respects though. But original. I hope I'll see you in CoX, we'll bash some heads and tell tall tales. Lucas

Dunno why no one menthiond Final Fantasy Online.
It's pure roleplaying and there's some pvp later in the game(not open world) Quests are not kill x and come talk to me again but the quests there is are mosly all part of the story of the game with many cutscenes and boss fights are great. if you want you can simply lvl to max just staying in teams killing mobs I know it's grinding but you won't feel your doing it that much. Controls are not noob friendly but once you understand them it's more pleasent you can play with a controller if you want also but i played with my keyboard. If your one that likes to search before trying something it won't take you much to learn how to change controls, ecc but if you want this the easy way aka people holding your hand and show you everything will take you some time. What else dunno there is a trial if you wanted to try it but note since the game is a bit olf you will have a big patch before playing it I tell you from advance.
Good luck finding your ideal game ;) |
