i'm looking fro the MMO that will allow the most credible freedom for the player, and from what I've understood Darkfall and MO seems to be the main options (If you know any better I'll be happy to check it out).

So Darkfall has been out - more or less - for some months now, and I'm thinking that they may have gotten rid of the worst bugs and flaws. But has had alot of negative reviews afaik, wether that is because of people not liking that playstyle or if the game actually is poorly made.

MO hasn't released yet, yet at least the visuals looks good, will it have as much freedom as DF claimed it would have?

Also they have set a vague release time of Q3 this year. As probably alot have experienced MMO's tend to be late, some very late (DF) and when they finally arrive it's full of bugs and disappointments, at least for some. Which means the "real" release and playable game might be further out into the future. Just saying from looking at other launches.

This is why prefer not to wait for MMO's. Then again if it's only a couple of months...

I was thining of at least wait for good reviews for MO before playing it. I don't think I'll ever preorder a game again, did it once and altough it wasn't all to bad for me, it's better to keep cool and wait for the reviews Imo.

What do you guys think? Are any of you waiting for MO?

I am playing DF and enjoying the game.

Will wait for some MO reviews after game launch and then deside where to go.

Upcoming World of darkness online might also be worth keeping an eye out for.

Unlike DF and MO have WoDO experienced devs that includes both many old pen and paper RPG devs and the devs from Eve online. xperience is of course not everything but it helps.

As for DF and MO, it is still too early to say since Mo is in early beta yet. DF did release way too early and are still trying to put in stuff that should have been in at launch and fix things yet. I don't know about MOs current shape or which shape it will release in.

I do know that MOs crafting is miles better than DFs however so if that is an important issue to you you should consider MO.

But lets have this discussion when MO is released or at least have an open beta or something, most people can't help you with anything but guesses until then.

Darkfall has improved alot im playing now for almost 5 months and still love it its a GREAT game!

But you need to like FULL LOOT FREE FOR ALL PVP plus a steeb learning curve and invest alot of time in developing your character if you want it all instant and with guidance in ezmode go play MO or one of those THEMEPARK games becouse then Darkfall is not for you.

Darkfall a MUST HAVE for all hardcore pvpers!

If you ever want to play Darkfall better to do it now in case it doesn't survive.

Mortal Online is probably a few months off and has a few problems of it's own.

World of Darkness is even further out but looks neat.

It all depends on how much you want to spend and how long you want to wait.

I don't have much info about MO so i can't make a recommendation yet. DF is fine if you overlook the fact that is mostly a PVP focused game and not a "virtual" world as UO was.

I'd love to check out MO and see how closer to UO is but the amount of 68.69 Euros they ask from me to pay and enter a beta stage is much imo.

It havent stopped anyone here before : )

But i think every DF player waits for MO right now. Not because they dont like DF, but because they all love PvP sandbox MMOs...wich both DF and MO is.

Thanks for confirming that Evasia's post was just a jumble of crap. Reverse psychology is funny =)

OP: If you want bare-bones PvP and not much more, DFO might be for you. If you want sandbox mentality, steer clear from it.

Which begs the question. If they like PvP and Sandbox why only settle for a PvP MMO.  Because right now, Darkfall isn't what many people consider a true sandbox.  Removing Classes doesn't instantly make you a sandbox sadly.

DFO comes down to fighting. Mostly just PvP.
The skill system is designed to support PvP and there is no real fluff to the game.

In Mo you'll have things like cartography, lip reading, lock picking, true taiming.
Mounts, pack animals, personal housing you can build any place, and a crafting system that allows for experimenting to come up with dif. kinds of items.

DFO isn't as open as it would seem as everything is based around territory control and clan warfare. You'll level skills to increase your effectiveness in combat. Crafting is straight forward, if you've ever played WoW then you know how to craft in DFO. You're restricted were you can build by having to build on predesignated spots. Taiming is harvesting a bush for an herb that you turn into a mount and put in your pocket, wereas MO's is more like UO in that the animals will wander the world and you have to actually tame them; they are persistant and aren't summoned and desummoned.

As far as freedom goes, I'm expecting MO to offer more of it then DFO does.
DFO is more just a skill based system, but in the end felt no less linear then most MMO's on the market, and didn't provide much tools or content to feel like a true sandbox.

I guess it is a bit of both these things. Some doesn't like the full-loot pvp, some have hated Darkfall years before it was released and some parts of Darkfall is poorly made.

If you can afford 50$ I would say you have try it out. If you hate Darkfall, atleast  you don't have to wonder anymore. If you like Darkfall, you have spent your money on something good. Even if you just play until Mortal Online is out, you'll get a feeling on how a full-loot mmo work and you'll get used to fighting in first person view.

I have EVE, WOW, AoC and WAR on my PC. I still think Darkfall in despite all it's flaws, is the best mmo I have right now. And yes, I will try MO for the sole reason it has FFA pvp and full-loot.

DF is great PvP game, but very bad sandbox.  Depend what you are looking for DF can be the game for you. I personally give up to DF. I was not satisfied my PvP without a reason, It looks that I prefer UO style of gameplay that I'm looking for so long. So for me MO is the way to go.

This is terrible logic! It can be applied to anything. If you can afford $50, you can buy lots of things worthwhile. Why do so many people think if you can afford losing $50 that you should without question? If you applied that logic to everything, you wouldn't be able to afford $50 anymore because you'd buy everything in your path that you can afford.

There are reasons games don't have free trials 5-6 months into release, especially games that promised free trials to EVERYONE from the start. If you want to get a feel for full loot and that's all, go play Ultima Online. There are lots of free servers that you can use to get a feel for. If you have $50 to waste, send it to me instead.

Edit: PS - I followed this logic I disagree with months ago and bought DF, boy was I stupid. But in contrast, the game has seemed to be worked on quite a bit since I played a couple months ago.

It was ment to be more like "I wonder what that 20$ alligator meal taste like". And yes, if i had enough money I would try the alligator meal.

I would never say "buy darkfall it's the best game ever....honest". If you read some of the threads in this forum it sounds like Aventurine have electrocuted some of the buyers testicles. That's why I'm caution when I try to advice someone. They might feel Aventurine stole their money and did awful things to their lower parts.

Darkfall and Mortal Online have first person view and UO free server doen't really feel real. I don't wonder how it feel to give you 50$, but trust me alligator doesn't taste any good.

@HotJazz: I happen to like alligator. See how that works?

@OP: As someone posted earlier in this thread, until MO gets to the open beta stage, with the NDA lifted of course , any kind of gameplay comparison can't really be made.

If you don't mind dropping $50+, then why not give DF a shot?

Don't let the "money grows on trees" folks influence you with the patronizing attitudes though.

Typical crap cheap marketing malpractice from DF spinner.  Why is DF the alternate to anything, when DF is the worst ever produced game developed by a scam developer?

DF is alternate to nothing.  If you do not like WoW, you have tons of games to choose from.  If you have $50 idle, there are lots of way to make good use of that money, even if you do not feel the need to save it.  If you have hours to kill, try some F2P games.  Try some shooter games, try some PS3 games, try some social life, try to get out of town and have a trip.  There are no limits to what you can imagine for enjoyment, no way I will find the obnoxious DF community plausible as a means to kill a minute of my idle time.

So stop listening to the crappy scammers when they say if you are tired of XXX, try DF, if you are rich enough to spare $50, try DF.

That is just 9th grade marketing.  Don't fall for it.

Ive played Darkfall since release and i have now cancelled. The game most definetely HAD potential but the Dev's Vison is horrible. They created a nice world and the PVP can be exciting but every other part of the game Fails on such a large level it struggles to keep you challenged. Due to this fact the population of the game is NIL thus hurting the PVP aspect of the game. Crafting is a horrible grind and a Joke IMO. The PVE has no rewards worth people risking thier time or gear. All the good spawns are exploited and regularly hunted by the PVP Cheats who have such high skills due to early exploits you really have no chance to defend yourself. So if you do decide to go to some of t he high end spawns to build up your Gold expect to get ganked and have no chance.

All of this compounded with the Company being Greedy Liars has contributed to the current situation in Darkfall. I WAS a big fan for years but the game is a total dissapointment.

Currently I have been paying close attention to Mortal Online and the ONE thing I see is that the Devs are very much involved with the community (something Darkfall still struggles with even though the community outcry goes ignored for weeks at a time) they constantly post in threads and communicate with their player base and that interaction is what gains them respect. Because they are so involved I pre ordered the game and Im looking forward to it.
