I'm looking to give Eve another try for the 5th or 6th time, but I don't know where to start. I'd like to be able to get into such a great game, but it seems like the beginning stages are boring. Can anybody offer any advice on getting past this? How long does it usually take to get used to the game? |

Player corps are key. Join a good, newbie friendly corp to teach you the ropes and you'll have a better start to the game |

I agree with post #2 - EVE can be played solo, starting it that way is not unlike trying to play solo Basketball vs the LA Lakers - you are going to be owned and frustrated beyond belief. |

I will third that. While you can solo in EVE, it is a lot harder for a new player. |

I just find soloing in EvE to be boring, unless it's trading. As far as PvP and PvE goes I have to group with corpmates or people from my alliance, running it solo is no fun. :( |

Well, it is a corp-oriented game. I like solo play, but whenever I have played EVE(3-4 times now) I always find a good corp, or in some cases a shitty one, to be a member of. My best advice is, unless you are very good at solo play, do not try to solo this game. Also, soloing it from the start is just going to cause you to turn to drugs. |

I agree. Definitely add EVE University to your short list of possible corps. Their whole purpose for existence is getting new players ready for any aspect of the game they might be interested in. Unless someone's declared war on them (which happens a lot), they hold regular classes on a variety of things, and even have scholarship programs (they'll give you ISK for displaying mastery of skills after taking classes in that area). If someone has declared war on them and you want to get involved, they'll get you outfitted for tackling in no time.
Unlike a lot of corporations, there's no long-term commitment, either; you can "graduate" whenever you like and move on to another corporation, pirate band, anything you want with no hard feelings. If you like it and decide you want to stay, you can even become an instructor. As it turned out, EVE Online really wasn't the game for me, but E-UNI made me think it was for about six months (enough so that I'm here posting about them about a year after I left the game). If they could do that for a solo-loving, tree-hugging carebear like me, just imagine what they could do for you!

LOL i made ALOT of isk running drugs at one time in eve. True story...... On the other note, it depends on you're playstyle and what you find "fun" I have 2 accoutns one is 2 years old , full blown carebear mission running salvager type stuff to make alot of money and just grind and fart around with ships when I am bored. The other is about 6 months old now and has been in a 0.0 corp since day one. I was running around with corp mates , they in thier Hacs and such and me in my craptastic punisher lol :) Hey I was making the killboards and having an absolute blast pvping with shit skills and jack for equipment. She is coming along very nicely now in her Zealot tyvm but damn if a noob char with 0 skills was not some of the funnest shit ive done. PS You can solo and have fun also... get a stealth bomber and be a douche, flip cans, run around in your frig recon and scan out people mining in reconned zones and sell thier cans to passing scrubs(err transport ships in system) ect. Cruise wormholes and sell the exit lol. God made MILLIONS that way. FUN FUN FUN :) |

If you still struggle with the game after 5th or 6th time, I am affraid you will probably sruggle with the game forever. The game is does not get easier with gained skill points... |
